  1. OK, new subject. Some of us while out at Skillet's yesterday were taking about the Geowoodstock event.

So who's going from San Diego and how are you getting there? And plans for caravans, carpools, etc?

I'm driving because I like having my truck, crusing down the freeway with Sirius cranked as loud as I can stand it. My wife won't be with me so I can have it as loud as I want. :)

I'll probably be leaving Thursday night (on Canadian Grls advice) and going half way up, spending the night in some cheap, sleezy hotel then finishing up the drive the next day - getting there in time for the Friday night meet and greet.

It's still 60 days away but that will go by quickly.

:anibad: John and I will be there. I'm meeting John in Reno Friday so we'll be there for the Friday night thing and leaving Monday. We would love to meet up with some of our San Diego Family! John has cached in the area a bunch so he kinda knows his way around. Jerry I know you will be really busy but there are some great bike trails there.

zeber and I are flying up to San Jose on Friday morning, meeting The Fat Cats there and then we're driving to the Sacramento area. We're all staying at the Orchard Suites in Roseville. I think Team Adelos and finkbr are too. zeber and I are flying back on Monday.

We were thinking it might be fun to get the SD cachers together for caching and/or socialiizing.

Ok, it's official. I'm staying in Buttonwillow on Thursday...lovely town, I'm sure. I guess it can't be too bad, there's some caches nearby.

From there I'm heading up to GW6 and staying at the Heritage Inn. They had pretty decent rates and the reviews looked ok.

The guy said they were sold out until I told him I was going to the Geowoodstock. I guess that make us VIP's. :)

When is it Jerry? I have to check the calendar but I might be able to go. Also when are you coming back? I'm guessing it's a 10 hour drive...

The event is May 24th, but I'm leaving on Thursday night to get through the LA nightmare. I'll be halfway there after staying in Buttonwillow and will hopefully have time for a few caches along the way on Friday.

I'll be coming back on Sunday and driving all the way home.

Kwvers! will be driving up and staying at the nearby Thousand Trails campground.

I also created a route between San Diego and Sacramento to use for pocket queries. You can find it by going to your cache page then click on the link "Find Caches Along a Route" then do a keyword search for GW6.

  4. Is there a problem with viewing the pictures directly from the logs on a cache page?

When I click on the picture link the picture doesn't load, it just come up blank. If I right click, I can choose to view the link in a new window and that works fine, as does going to the cache pages' gallery.

It's just the picture links below the logs on main the cache page.

I've tried it in IE 7, v7.0.5730.11 and Firefox v2.0.0.12 and had the same results in both.

Edit: It looks like it's only on this page GC19WPG

  6. Not that I agree with the placement of the cache but the FBI over stepped their bounds a bit. It is public property. Doesn't matter if its 300 ft or 1 foot from their fence it is still public property. If we can place them on bases in IRAQ, then we sure as hell can place them on roads in the US. There is no need for what happened.

A lot of crimes take place on public property. So long as the feebies (or any other law enforcement officer/agent) can articulate their actions were to stop a perceived crime in progress or prevent one, they were in the right to respond as they did. The general rule of thumb is, based on what the officer/agent saw or perceived, will a "reasonable" person agree action needed to be taken.

I can understand them not wanting it there, but if they knew about the cache and have been watching people come to it, then suddenly decide to come out with 8 guns drawn, then I say "unreasonable".

But hey, let's keep them on our side; we don't seem to have too many friends out there any more.

We Be Off Roading but Jeeps are welcome. 000201E4.gif 00020121.gif

All those that attend the Event will get a sticker of the We Be Jeepin'

So far there are 29 vehicles signed up to attend. It's going to be a great time. 0002014B.gif

Cool sticker! B) I got my alarm set for 5AM tomorrow...:huh:

Any open seats left in the Ramona crowd?

  8. :( Thanks Pat. I'll see if I can do it. If not, it's back to the ! team on speed dial. You and I both have MAP60CS..obsolete old "units", but I'm happy as long as I'm not in Vermont or St Louis or Virginia in the summer under trees. Yeah..I can't believe Rooster let Snake buy a Colorado!

"Look Hon, Garmin sent us this new unit to beta test for them." "It cost us absolutely nothing!" "Aren't you glad I signed up for that program?" :)

Well then, it seems only right and proper that you should pass that freebie around so's the rest of us can beta-test it too.

Garmin would be proud of you for doing so. There'll be a little place in Heaven for you if you do so. Don't miss this rare

opportunity to do the right thang!

    Me first,

    Harmon

Of course, Harmon. I'd be glad to help!

Oh . . . wait . . . that won't work at all . . . I'd feel just awful if one of those occasional beta glitches caused you to DNF a cache. After all, it is important that you continue to show up those young whippersnappers by finding every cache, on every ridge between San Diego and the border. A DNF would ruin your reputation and I would never forgive myself.

Nope. Just can't do it. :o

Now that Harmon has been ruled out as a Colorado beta-tester, that leaves me! :(

Sorry Pat, but I think all of that excess metal you are carrying around would throw off the super sensitive receiver. Nope, just wouldn't be right to make you miss all those caches.

Guess I'll just have to keep the dang thing myself, since I have so many DNFs that it doesn't matter. :(

Fine! Then I'll just wait for the "California" to come out! The "California" comes with jpegs of thong muggles on the beach! :D

Thong muggles? I'm not sure Rooster would let me have one of those. But, I want one too!

    :D

I could see the next cache war being all along the coast if that were true.

  9. THIS JUST IN!

After about 6-7 years of Geocaching..... I just found out how to upload hints onto my GPS...And here I wanted a new one just so I could upload hints and maps. B)

    B) Will you tell us? I don't know how. I still rely on the "phone a friend method" and they don't always answer. tx

All you have to do is to put %hint in the cache description before you export from GSAK. I like to have the cache name there too, so I use: %smart=15 %hint instead. I lose 15 characters of the hint doing this but that's not a big deal. By the way, the guys using the Colorados are probably laughing at this... :)

Another way is to use the POI export macro in GSAK and POI Loader you can get for free from Garmin. It loads them to your memory card instead of the internal memory of the GPS, that way you're not limited to 1000 caches, just the size of your memory card.

How would you like to have 10,000 caches on your GPS ready to go?

Now if I could just figure out where that memory card goes on my 60CS? B)

    Oops B)

  11. Is anyone planning on going on any moderate difficulty scenic hikes where I don't have to get up too early this weekend? :)

Not me. I'm not hiking too far yet.

MM, you got it worse than I do. You have four screws holding you together and I only have two. It's great to get back out again. It has really greened up around here and it's not hot yet.

The San Diego National Wildlife Refuge Planning Event is this Saturday morning. Are you going? After that I can join you for whatever kind of a hike you want to do.

  12. ? ;)

BTW: ERIC YOU O ME a BEER!!!!!

King Arthur: [about the inscription on the rock] What does it say, Brother Maynard?

Brother Maynard: It reads, "Here may be found the last words of Joseph of Aramathia. He who is valiant and pure of spirit may find the holy grail in the Castle of Aaauuuggghhh...”

    King Arthur: What?

Brother Maynard: "The Castle of Aaaauuuggghhhh"

    Sir Bedevere: What is that?

Brother Maynard: He must have died while carving it.

    King Arthur: Oh come on!

Brother Maynard: Well, that's what it says.

King Arthur: Look, if he was dying, he wouldn't have bothered to carve 'Aaaauuuggghhhh'. He'd just say it.

Sir Galahad: Maybe he was dictating it.

    King Arthur: Oh shut up!

  13. So, I've been out in New England for a week now and have another week to go. Yes! I still exist and Yes I am homesick........ :D So, thought I would check in......I've been really busy with a new job and haven't had the opportunity to geocache much...but slowly getting back out there. I was able to hit 3 states yesterday and today. That's the beauty of New England. the downfall is that it's really really cold. I miss you guys....getting back out there slowly. (stupid work!) :)

Here are a couple photos from my adventures.

Breakers........Mansion in Newport, Rhode Island. I really need to get a good job to get a place like this!

Then I actually ran into some cachers from the Boston area while in Boston.

Hi Paulette! It's good to hear from you again.

  14. If Anza Borrego Desert State Park is off limits, consider caching in the the huge Ocotillo Wells State Vehicular Recreation Area next door. I can't imagine a cache site having any impact to Ocotillo Wells, at least when compared to the impacts of the vehicular recreation that goes on there.

Geocaching does not have any impact on the environment . . . Some of the caches that were removed had been found only six times in the past year. Also, in the Ocotillo Wells area, there just isn't any scenery like this, which is near where the Powder Can Cache was located.

Nor is there evidence of past History such as this:

    689b537c-307a-4b5d-aef1-4f8220984bb7.jpg

And, in the Ocotillo Wells area, I sure haven't seen anything like this, which is in the Domelands area.

I am very indebted to the cachers who put caches in those locations giving me the opportunity to see those places and have wonderful memories of caching in ABDSP.

Why must there be a box of trinkets at the end of your trail?

You poor soul, not know the feeling of discovering somewhere new on your own.

It must suck to need a guide to enjoy the desert.

  15. The desert is a fairly large place. Have you pretty much cleaned out everything except ABDSP?
What fricking value does that comment add to a thread that is discussing ABDSP? You aren't even from around here, so why are you being nosey and disruptive?

100% Agree. Trolls need to go back under the bridge.

    0002018D.gif

    king_rodney.jpg

Can't we all just get along?

  16. I sure hope we get this straightened out. I'm somewhat suspicious that some ABDSP ranger(s) are calling other area park rangers. It's a bit too coincidental for me...

I'd be surprised beyond belief if they HADN'T called their associates. :D

I was trying to be diplomatic.... :D

I wonder if there are Indian cairns drunk camper cairns in other parks? :D

I may be new here, but it doesn't take a brain surgeon to see that it is disrespectful posts and actions such as these that could possibly give land managers ANTI-caching tendencies.

    Just a thought.

    from.......the voice of reason

Possibly a sock puppet account? No finds, no hides and only 1 forum post. :D Just an observation.

  17. Is it me are is Geocaching.com slow. I can't get into my account.:blink::cool:

The website is hosed. No new caches being published, and everything is slow or completely inaccessible...

They're looking for the pellets to feed the hamsters right now...

On the bright side at least the forums are working fine. 0002022F.gif

I thought the PQ's came from a different server, but I haven't received any today.

The site came back up a few minutes ago and is working great. ..now if that darn rain would go away so I don't have to watch a football game that I couldn't care less about.

...And to tease us, all those new caches are popping up now in MTRP.
