  1. OK Everyone the Event page is up GC2EFZW 8th Annual Geo Ocotillo Campout 36_2_25thumbsup.gif

    Looking forward to it!

 Head's Up.....the event page will be updated but everyone start thinking about whether or not they want a San Diego Geocacher's tshirt as we'll be selling them at the campout and I will be needing some pre-order numbers to get the order in. We're using the simple SD Geoachers Logo..small on the front and larger on the back. Probably light ash as only light colors look good with the logo. I'm expecting the tshirts to be under $15 and sweatshirts or hoodies we also be available for approx $20-23.

I'll need qtys and sizes and will let ya know the cut off. Still working on the quote and the artwork....

    sdgoecacherlogo.jpg

New master of logo artwork delivered to Jodi.

Also Uploaded it to San Diego Geocachers.org

site so that everybody can access it. Make sure

to resize for largest dimensions when viewing it

    on the link below.

Master Artwork: San Diego Geocachers Logo

    I also have a color-separation version available

for silkscreen printing. It's four colors and the

black text below the artwork can be either

    included or excluded.

 Isn't that old guy amazing....never thought you'd hear me say that did you?

Ok...if you want a shirt email me with the qty and size. We will also have hoodies and sweatshirts. When I get the final prices I will have Skillet update the cache page.

Is anyone making stickers of this logo any more? My back window has been bare far too long.

The clean up crew did a fantastic job. 50 bags of trash and the road didn't look that bad at the start. Beautiful weather all weekend. 00020205.gif Great job everyone.

Just because most people have cell phones now doesn't mean you can take down a call box sign and call it trash. :(

  3. Hey, I just wanted to get the word out there. I have been working on a project for almost 2 months now and just finished it, a Bike-N-Cache trail in San Diego. It is 14 + miles long on a path that is good for the entire family (hike, bike, run, jog, skate, whatever).

I have received approval on all caches and they are ready to be released - I'll be releasing them Saturday morning (3/21/09). There are a total of 50 caches ( I left plenty of room for other cachers to add to the trail if they feel it's needed.) So a week from Saturday there will be 50 FTF opportunities on this BikeNcache trail and I wanted to alert you. It is possible to join the trail in several locations, so everyone has a chance for some FTF's. In each of the cache listings I include a URL to the Goggle Pedometer site with the entire trail laid out, and you can drill down on the map and choose where you want to start.

I am not going to be giving away any more information other than to say it is in the Rancho Bernardo area. Look for them to be released Saturday March 21st around 7am. I'll be there with family cachers who don't know anymore then you do.

Oh, this is a Bike or Hike and cache trail – there is no parking on any of this road – bike lane only. There are several side roads you can park on but that is it. It is unsafe for biker's, for other drivers, and yourself if you try to park in the bike lanes, so lets not. I know we all get excited when there are FTF opportunities, so for everyone's protection I give the following warning....if I see anyone drive caching this trail and stopping in the bike lane I will remove their logs in all caches. Lets be safe out there...... hope to see you a week from Saturday.

Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy...can't wait!

  4. Mark your calenders the spring CITO

    and the CAMPOUT and BBQ

    April 18th

If you can't spend the night come on out for the CITO and the BBQ after. Two events you can get. spend the day Caching. Lots of new ones out there and I have a bunch more ready to go. 00020201.gif

It's a real bummer when events conflict...I'll be in Mexico on a little bike ride the same day. I'll be sure to catch the fall event.

  5. I just wonder why it's so important to have a "zone" cleared?

:D And why is it so important to find a cache every day? ;)

Actually, no need to answer. We each have our little obsessions. :D

let's face it...who trades swag anymore?

Interesting question. Here's my answer to it.

    1. Kids -- There are still lots of parents getting into geocaching and they bring the young'uns along. And a lot of the young'uns aren't interesting in the finding. They want to explore the loot. True, these aren't high mileage cachers nor are they in in the majority but they are still present.
    2. Travel Bug and Coin Movers -- Not exactly trading swag but it's hard to drop off a TB in a micro.
    3. Me -- It's rare but occasionally I find something in a cache that interests me. So I try to have some trade goods for those rare events. Just a little bonus on top of the general fun of it.

I don't have any problem with anyone who places micros (with certain exceptions.) But for the reasons above, I've begun place only caches that are at least large enough for a regular sized geocoin.

I think James was talking about urban micros, Jodi. I enjoy micros on a nice hike.

TG is correct. It's the total experience that counts. If the cache is placed on an interesting place or on an interesting trail, I don't consider the cache to be ho-hum even if it's just a bison tube and log. Likewise, if it was an interesting puzzle that led to micro, then it's still interesting.

The quintessential example of ho-hum is a altoids tin skirt lifter behind a Walmart. The location isn't interesting because there's 5000 more just like it. The hide isn't interesting because there's a 10000 more just like it and the container isn't interesting because there are 15000 more just like it. The cache page isn't interesting because well, you know... But change just one of those four elements to something offbeat or unusual and now it becomes interesting.

And yes, I'll still log the ho-hum ones if they are convenient. But I won't go very far out of my way just to bag one. I drive right on by knowing that there's another cache that's more interesting not very far away.

We live in such an awesome area! :D

Sure can't argue with that! ;) (And the cachers here are pretty awesome too...)

I couldn't agree more. I don't think I've ever been on a great hike just to be disappointed at the size of the cache I found.

  6.

:P Harmon, if you think about it, there have been more caches placed by you, placed because of you, placed for you, or placed despite you, than any other cacher in San Diego County. Heck..we can directly blame you for at least 28 of ours. There's "nun" better than you for....hmmmm....how shall I say it..."motivating the troops"? Dang right you're guilty!

I guess she told you! ;)

  7. My inside source informs there will be a Rosarito-Ensenada bike ride in April (I think April 18th). I'll post more info as it becomes available.

So, break out the bikes and hit the road!

My previous offer to ride a bike and donate it to charity still stands. Jahoadi and John donated an Australian 10-speed last time. The brake levers were reversed which made braking interesting. It was a heavy bike and purple. Yes, purple. But, the bike made it to Ensenada unscathed.

I'm still waiting for them to send my shirt from the last ride that they just so happened to run out of thinking it was the last ride and wanted to make some extra money at the riders expense. Just a coincidence that the 6 other rides I participated in had my shirt ready at the finish.

I'm in. If anyone wants company on practice rides just let me know. The Old Julian hwy is a good one if you want to come to Ramona. I even hid another cache yesterday along the route.

I got my t-shirt a couple weeks ago.

  8. Thanks for the tips and cache suggestions. I'll give y'all a little peek, but not much of one. First, the coords will bring you to the actual puzzle (yes, a physical puzzle). You'll retrieve the puzzle (first challenge) and solve it (second challenge). Next, you will head out into the boonies of East San Diego County (area TBD) and start at the trailhead coords (encrypted in the puzzle). As you head down the trail, you will have a few challenges to solve which will require a good degree of intestinal fortitude and a good head to complete. You will need at least one person skilled in climbing gear and safety, for your own safety (TheHikingMonk is one I know of). But, the trail itself will be hard enough. I am considering making this into an overnight cache, with a pre-built bivouac site for weary cachers near GZ. I'll try to make it comfy, but do pack light.

This will not be a trail for lone cacher. The hunt itself will require teams, that's an order. And, to make it a little better, I'm thinking about placing it in the Viejas Mountain area, unless it's too full of caches for mine and all I plan to fill the trail with.

    Always Out Front!

    HTG

;)Ok there soldier boy...slow down with the plans to kill all the civilians in San Diego. Why don't you start small...like with an Army green micro and work your way up to the all night adventure that Jim KWVERS! will have to lead. We're not all youngsters like you ya know.

PS...El Cajon Mt might still have a few blank holes :D

Time to lose weight...Oh Dear!!! Oh My!!!

Last night, I was having  a "flashback" of sorts ... all this Army stuff is getting to me, I think. Anyway ... so I was remembering back to the Otay Mtn. Truck Trail run many of us did awhile back. I think that outing might have something to do with halftrack guys :D present cache ideas. Yep, I remembered a moment when I was running to a cache and POLAR BEAR came running up to catch me - then gave me one of those football shoves :D you see those NFL players do. Mhmm, halftrack guy saw that ... his poor poor mother :D getting roughed up. Uh huh! Next thing I know, he's enlisted in the US Army ... then military intelligence. Yikes! Now he's thinking up all kinda of wild things to do, and it's all PB's fault (if ya ask me :) ). We're ALL gonna die!!!! Hmmm, what to do ... what to do.

    boysnbarrie

Oh, btw ... I'm baby sitting at TIM's house

I'm glad you added that last part. I always thought boysnbarrie was a good geo name and thought maybe you had changed it....not that there's anything wrong with the name TheIronMom :)

  9. Congratulations to Canadian Grl who found 120 caches and to The Fat Cats who found 115 caches on a Friday cache run in Temecula, Lake Elsinore and Ortega Highway!!! I think that is a new high caches found in a day record for both of them.

    WTG LADIES :D:D:D

Whew! I'm tired just thinking about it. That's Great!!

Well, it's a for-sure thing on Saturday! Woo Hoo! Looks like it will be Truckhaven after all. Not sure of the start time, though. Possibly a meet at Christmas Circle in Borrego Springs @ 9:00. I will post here as soon as the details are ironed out.

Looking forward to some fun Jeeping with a little caching. We'll miss that little green Jeep and the 'Yoda as well. Hope to have you guys up and running soon!

  11. I was chasing down Team Adelos in Ramona and I kept hearing "knock, knock, knock" and I noticed some red-headed woodpeckers in this tree. All I had was my phone so the picture is not great but I wanted to share anyway.

    Ha-ha-ha-ah-hah!

    That's him!

  12. I know, I'm pushing my luck here, but these are good...

How many men does it take to open a beer?

None. It should be opened when she brings it.

    -----------------------------------------------------------

Why is a Laundromat a really bad place to pick up a woman?

Because a woman who can't even afford a washing machine will probably never be able to support you.

    -----------------------------------------------------------

Why do women have smaller feet than men?

It's one of those 'evolutionary things' that allows them to stand closer to the kitchen sink.

    -----------------------------------------------------------

How do you know when a woman is about to say something smart?

When she starts a sentence with 'A man once told me....'

    -----------------------------------------------------------

How do you fix a woman's watch?

You don't. There is a clock on the oven.

    ----------------------------------------------------------

If your dog is barking at the back door and your wife is yelling at the front door, who do you let in first?

The dog, of course. He'll shut up once you let him in.

    ------------------------------------------------------------

    I married a Miss Right.

I just didn't know her first name was Always.

    -----------------------------------------------------------

Scientists have discovered a food that diminishes a woman's sex drive by 90%.

    It's called a Wedding Cake.

    ----------------------------------------------------

Why do men die before their wives?

    They want to.

    ------------------------------------------------------

Women will never be equal to men until they can walk down the street with a bald head and a beer gut, and still think they are sexy.

    ------------------------------------------------------

In the beginning, God created the earth and rested.

Then God created Man and rested

    Then God created Woman.

Since then, neither God nor Man has rested.

    Beware of the Doghouse!

    You have been warned!

    :D

Darn! And I had such a good idea for a gift too. Now I'll have to start all over. :D
