  1. 2 years old, asking $50 + $5 S/H = $55.

Be warned, the rubber around the sides is starting to loosen a bit. However I don't think this is a serious problem and wouldn't prevent anyone from lots of geocaching, but I'm looking to upgrade.

This unit would be perfect for someone just getting started geocaching.

$5 to ship in the contiguous U.S. only, thanks.

  2. I don't typically suffer much from PI, just a slight itch for a day or two. But on this cache I went thru a lot of it, took cortisone pills from the Dr but still itched for at least a week and got it in several places.

I've been meaning to do this one (or its predecessor) for a few years now. Today it was nice out so I said I'm going for it. Walked along the path to the open area and the cache was only 300 ft away. Tucked my GPSr and one of my small orange pencils into a ziploc bag and then into another ziploc bag and then into the pocket of my swimsuit. It was a nice swim over, about five minutes maybe. To my horror the place is no paradise except for what I believe to be poison ivy everywhere. And here I am with just swim trunks on. Oh well that hasn't stopped me before. I was in that mess for ten minutes but came out with the smiley and swam back. Time will tell to see what price I paid for finding this cache, but I enjoyed it and that's what counts.

  3. I put my GPSr in my carryon bag and the airport guys were a bit too rough with my luggage, causing a crack in the screen. Despite being an eyesore, I don't think it diminishes the performance of the unit. It's less than a year old and was purchased new for around $250.

I'll offer to sell it at a considerably lower price if anyone is interested. I don't have a picture of it with me but can provide one to interested parties this weekend.

  4. luke96 sorry I forgot the Description so hear it is. I was wondering if ther is any under water caches in minnesota.

You mean like GC1D6DQ which my sister created and I completed? It's marked as unavailable but from what I read it sounds like it's there waiting for you. I'd wait a few more months. It's not too bad.

Dos the cache have holes in on it to let water in or is it dry inside and what kind of contaner is it?

You'll find out soon enough... It's helpful to have a second person around because you need hands to open the cache, sign the log, etc. The cache is like few others you are likely to meet because it is underwater, but I'm not going to say anything more about it - leave some mystery and give you an incentive to do it!!

  6. Cache finders can maintain their posts in any way they wish, and that includes replacing deleted logs.

Here are a couple of rules of thumb that will make your deleted log experiences better:

    1. If you like a cache, use pleasing words to say so.

    2. If you dislike a cache, you may as well let the world know that too.

    3. If a cache owner deletes your log, you have several options.

... a. Ignore the whole thing, and move on. (Boring)

... b. Rewrite the log, being consistent with 2.

    4. If a cache owner deletes your log again, you have several other options.

... a. Ignore the whole thing, and move on. (Boring)

    ... b. Rewrite the log.

... c. Rewrite the log and include an additional statement about how the owner continually deletes your posts and that you are devoted to replacing them.

... d. © + Create a forum topic devoted to how annoying it is when an owner deletes your posts.

    5. If you follow course 4. (d), additional options will ensue

... a. Annoy other posters who think only their perspective of posting nice comments is the only option.

... b. Annoy other posters who claim you are spewing negative energy in the universe.

... c. Chat with other posters supportive of your view.

... d. Discuss the issue with people who can see both sides of the argument.

... e. Add a subtopic about microspew to bring others into the discussion.

One other rule of thumb that is good to remember:

    No rules of thumb allowed.

  7. So this is how you choose to recreate?

Team Geoblast putting more words in my mouth. Of course it is not recreation in my mind, it is only what is necessary for my cache comment to stay put. Recreation for you is obviously overblowing this topic to heights I never imagined.

That approach ["If you can't say anything good, don't say anything at all"] , while admirable in its intent, is one of the reasons so many caches suck. Not to say that I think being blunt is necessarily better; there has to be some middle ground. I too often find myself in the "say something nice or nothing" mode, but in some ways I am doing a disservice to other cachers who are trying to find decent caches.

Exactly. The microspew is another topic altogether, but in an urban area it's the alternative to running out of caches.

  8. runewell: "nobody is going to find this spat serious enough to warrant a decision to one side or the other to stop the feud."

Personally I think it's a little strange that it's gone on THIS long... i'll step in and be a down-to-earth sister. Keep in mind that "it's just a smiley". Gee whiz... :)

Oh great bring my sis in on this. Gee meralgia, your caches are suddenly starting to dissatisfy me. I'd better go inform the world...

Remember what happened in South Carolina?

Umm, no they didn't cover that in basic training and it didn't make the list of "25 things a geocacher absolutely needs to know"

  9. What special training do you have that makes you so certain that your opinion is so useful for the next cacher?

I never claimed this. In fact, I said that some people might benefit from my remarks and others might benefit from ignoring them and doing the cache anyway. You should be careful dissing other people's opinions as they also cause the toxic negative energy to spread farther out into the universe and beyond.

The owner can delete a post unless gc.com decides otherwise.

And the original poster can replace it.

If your cache found it log is deleted for no valid reason then it is an abuse of the Terms of Use.

There doesn't seem to be a clear definition of "no valid reason". Chances are nobody is going to find this spat serious enough to warrant a decision to one side or the other to stop the feud.

  10. Returning to the topic for a moment. The fact is, seeker, you are NOT entitled to your opinion if the cache owner doesn't want it on the cache page. The discussion ends right there right or wrong.

If I'm reading the posts on page 2 right, I think I am entitled to my opinion. And the discussion certainly doesn't end there just because you showed up and posted an opinion on the matter.

That is a lot of negative energy you've just spilled into the universe.

    :huh::(

Maybe 60% of the caches in town here are unremarkable so my comments will be brief. Another 30% may be nice caches deserving of some praise. I see no reason why the other 10% can't be game for some slight criticism. It can actually help others decide if they want to attempt the cache. If someone could have written that log to me I would have avoided the cache and been glad of it. Yet I know others will want to do the cache anyway and will get satisfaction from the find. So be it!

  11. I just can't see the one we've seen here being the very first one. It doesn't rise to the same level as a couple of the other ones. Are you sure there's nothing extra that we're not being told?

That's more or less it. I said the cache was dissatisfying and had I known that I wouldn't have spent the time on it. That got deleted. Ensuing posts simply said cache was dissatisfying and owner keeps deleting posts that say as much.

That's and the subsequent deletions (I'm guessing 4-5 of them) is all there is to the story.

Funny, the owner has the post disabled, turned it into a members-only cache and is "waiting for some of the damage to grow back"??

  12. Why do you think your opinion is so important to everyone else?

I don't. I think my opinion is just as valid and equally deserving of a read as anyone else's, hence I am annoyed with the deletion.

We have no history. He's in MN and I'm in IA and only up there caching when I'm visiting the fam. The big deal here is why the owner can't take one small negative opinion about his cache.

  13. This is the way i show how much i liked their cache. For the most part, the longer the log, the more i liked it... but i see no point in telling a cache owner that his cache sucks. What i think is a sucky cache is not necessarily a fact, but only my opinion. I can just about guarantee you that there are others out there who would enjoy finding that very same cache.

But liking a cache is just an opinion also - why bother to write that. You might love a cache that other people think sucks and drag them out there needlessly

  14. It's not that I'm worried about adding one more smiley face to the 585 I already have. I think the public deserves to know that if I could go back in time I wouldn't spend any effort on this cache.

You climb a hill. Getting a precise reading isn't easy because of the elevation. It's a small object just sitting in the grass about 10 feet from the peak. But there are a lot of trees on the hill and it's going to take a while to find. The difficulty level is appropriate but I don't see why someone's truthful opinion should be deleted. If I said TFTC after every single log it certainly wouldn't always be an honest response.

  15. I reported that I found a particular 3-star cache which I thought was dissatisfying (GCZT0W). I think I'm entitled to my opinion but the owner also feels entitled to delete my opinion. Now I voice my opinion and also note that the owner keeps deleting my posts. Thoughts anyone?

  16. Upon further reading, it sounds like only pocket queries are going to generate GPX files, otherwise you're going to get LOC files which sounds like the real problem?

Yep, I think I can get it to work now, need pocket queries...
