    Welcome

Er OK I placed one there, gives you something to look for now. Also got one over looking Sterkfontein Dam. Welcome Hyper7pro, congrats on the FTF too,
  2. Groan................. Ohhh Ahhhhh, Einaaaaaaa. But frigging hell it was worth it. Thanks for the weekend guys. Finally get to do a cache that I cannot park my Corsa Lite 4x4 nearby. 10 Grueling hours of playing catch up with Bats and Rhino. Sorry guys I realized that I am not fit enough for these kind of hikes. Believe me the first kilo had me wanting to turn round but I am glad I set my mind on the goal. Almost a 20 kilo round trip to find a new cache that was placed mere minutes before I reached the top. Thanks Rhino my first 5 Star cache, first mountain summit. Killer view bud. Loved it. Caution this one is definitely not for the faint hearted. We had to help a very nervous lady up a rock with a sheer drop right behind us.
  3. And the journey begins, with some work inbetween.
  4. Let me at em at least before they get removed geez..... See you Friday night. Must let me know where we are staying. Don't know If I should call you as it is late. Completely forgot to call you back earlier, sorry bud, was really busy.
  5. Easy: 1: Go to the top of the forums under My Controls. 2: You are now in your control panel, look on the left hand side menus under options and select board settings. 3: Look under Board settings, there are drop down selections for various options. The second and third options must be selected as yes. 4: If you changed these then click on the change my account options button at the bottom of the page. Problem solved. At least it should be....
  6. Picked up an unactivated coin, activated it on Geocaching.com but when I try the tracking number it doesn't see it. What have I missed? I think it was either Rhino and Hedgehog or Crystal fairy that left it in the cache at RNNP Rock Art.

Eish just did a 4.5 star cache this morning in the Northern Drakensberg. Killer. Hope 5 star will be kind to me. Come on guys lets have a few extras join in.... Going to be fun...
  9. Thanks guys. I think he is going to venture off the topic and tell the class what fun can be had with a GPS, like geocaching....
  10. My son has to do a project at school tomorrow on technology, so I suggested GPS but we need info in Afrikaans. Short notice I know but if anyone can help it would be great, any websites that we can look at? He is 10 years old so not too hard. Mom changed the subject earlier in the week but we have reverted back to GPS cause we found no info on her idea. Eish.... Last minute rushes....

    GPS

I borrowed an Etrex yellow today to try find a cache and it took me right to the spot that I think the cache was supposed to be, But it looks as if it has been muggled. But where my satnav doesn't show me how far I have to go at least this one does. So I will start looking at getting a basic model to start with , just need to get this one to direct me to a cache that I will find. I didn't have co-ords for the other caches I visited today as they were all programmed into my MioGPS and I have been to them all already. It would have been interesting to see if it would have got me spot on on them too.

    GPS

I am currently using a MioGPS satnav to find caches but find it a bit cumbersome to use when climbing rocks. I was wondering if an Etrex Yellow is any good at getting you to a cache or should I rather go for the summit as it has the electronic compass? I need to get one from my trip to the berg over the weekend. I used a Etrex Yellow many years ago but not specifically for finding small items. I thought of getting a vista but I already have satnav so I get to caches easily via roads, just need something to show me the right direction once I am walking. Anyone have some Ideas. Also need to be able to load waypoints to the unit.

Well Bats has put some up here in Newcastle, still in KZN and There are some others around this area. One that he placed actually took a long trip from the cache the next weekend all the way to Dubai, but has yet to find a cache up there. Some left and returned like the one in one of my Vryheid caches. So if you looking for coins they are all up here.... Come fetch em people....

Haa haa.... If only those 25 caches were close to home. I usually have to travel over 100km to get to the nearest town for a few caches. In Newcastle we now have a total of 5 of which 2 are mine. Then just out of town 25 to 50 kilos another few mostly mine. Then 10km out of town some more of mine. Nope most of them 26 caches are very far from home for me. I should be adding another six or so finds at the end of the month when I go to the Drakensberg, another 250 kilos away. I probably am worse off than you. You are close to UAE and Dubai are you not? There are over 70 in that area. I have a friend over there who has just started. Maybe you can contact him. michaeldb is his profile name.

  18. There is a plug-in for Google earth to view all caches in an area. As you zoom in to certain area's the caches appear. But they are only there when logged in on the server. I put all the caches in on Google earth anyway to get a general idea of where the cache is too. As LeonW says "All this technology".
  19. Bottom Line. Check before going and print the cache page, there is a print friendly version without logs. But sometimes logs can help. Also get to know the person who left it or those who have found it. Get into contact with them they can help you a little if you end up getting stuck, that is they want to... Read the clues and once you start finding the caches by various people you get to learn their style. Problem is that in the end we all start to copy other people's styles. But the main thing is that this is a hunt and hunting is not supposed to be easy. To add use a maps unless you have a satnav GPS which is up to date with all roads to an extent. Print photos or upload them to your GPS or PDA, and get a stick to move things around. Ooops off the subject now. But the whole thing we point out here is don't rely on just downloading the waypoints.

    Welcome

Welcome to Team Buffalo. Hopefully we get to see some more caches in the Vrystaat .... More over to wards the KZN border so I can get to visit them too haa haa, just joking. But seriously there are none in Vrede..... LOL.
  21. I used GSAK to do this but you need to select an area and then need to mark all caches in the area and then select download waypoints. These can then be opened up in GSAK. I did that with caches in JHB area and thought that this would be the easiest way to get to caches. But as my GPS unit doesn't connect with the PC to load waypoints it doesn't help me much. I printed out a list of coordinates and used this list to go look for caches if they were nearby. Total disaster.... The ones I looked for were archived which I didn't know till I got home and checked their relevant pages. The problem with downloading the waypoints is that you never know if they get archived in the time that you have downloaded them. So always check the day before where you intend going and see if they are still active. Download these waypoints and import them to GSAK. If you have a PDA maybe try paperless caching. I am new at this so some of the other guys here could have better info on this. Happy caching.

Congratulations Seeker625 don't worry I only have 26 but I was just as stoked to get to 25. 50 is my next goal obviously but I hope it comes quicker than 25 did. Problem is I have found all but 2 caches in my area. Those 2 I am leaving to do with friends. So to get up to 50 I will be doing some long distance traveling. That is unless someone comes and places more caches in my area..... Hint Hint....
