  2. I would say that if the huskies posted Girry back using the SA postal service you were very lucky to have got him back. I'm sure you guys partied till late. Bet the little guy is passed out too. But knowing you guys you are probably taking him out early to go caching.

    The Sandpit

There is a good possibility that those who are up to climbing all over the said nipple are a good few hundred kilos worth of travel away otherwise it would have been done by now. The other possible candidate is sitting in the UK wondering what to do with his nipples due to the cold weather...... Haa haaa haaa. Hey did I not place a few? 2 in Ladysmith one at Vaalkrans and replaced another at thorny issue to get an archived cache active.... Mmmm time to place more.... Hee hee. Loads of places to place them but now that other cachers are getting active in my area i hope they beat me to it.

It seems like that there is going to be a bit more action in the Northern KZN region as we have a re-activated cacher in Bosluis from Ladysmith and the other been a new cacher I think in the Newcastle area by the name Subterranean Homesick Blues. So hopefully there is gonna be some action up this side and more caches hopefully. At last my hopes are up to catch up to all of you. Maybe I will reach the 100 caches before the end of the year......
  5. Great... Keep me informed. Welcome to the mad caching community and congrats on the 12 so far.
  6. What they there already.... Goodness. Guess we are not going to see any big rush for FTF down your way their way for a couple of weeks..... Neville, I see you were out early for the one in Howick today. What people do for FTF's. At least I could claim one too today. 100 plus kilo's to get a FTF.... LOL.

  10. I once had a cacher come up to my area from the coast and he contacted me for help on a cache, not my own, he mentioned that he was going to attempt one of my caches after that located at a local nursery and tee garden. So I told the wife that we must go and meet up with him as I had not yet met the said cacher. We got there before him and sort of ambled around till I saw him arrive. You can see a cacher from a mile away. So we decided to do the muggle thing as he was not aware that we would be there. He walked right past us on his search GPS in hand and definitely looking out of place. We let him get near the cache site and went over to look at some thing nearby. I was quite sure he was aware that we were nearby and thought it best to wait a little further off for him to find and replace the cache. He was very quick at that bit. When we turned round he was on his way back down the path on his way to his car. I could not keep it in any longer and had to introduce ourselves. We had a good laugh as he really thought we were muggles and he didn't think he would be able to hide the cache again until we had left. It was quite fun to do this from the muggles perspective.

    I spy

Haa haaa.... Just helped that I was in Durban and PMB for the last two weekends. I spy battlerat and pussycat browsing the forums.
  13. I have become a guardian for a little green guy called Beaky the duck. He ended up in my hands after Bats dropped him off with me on their way to Ireland. Since then he travelled all over Northern Natal and even did a few caches in Gauteng and recently down in PMB and Durban. Before that he was in England where his owner is and from there he did a week stopover in New Zealand. I had anothe companion called Schmooney Kwazulu but he is resting in a cache in PMB waiting to do a bit more traveling in the coastal areas of KZN, so if someone wants a willing companion to take on your travels, he's out there waiting for you. You may be surprised how these TB's owners enjoy the travels of their bugs, so adopt a bug today and see how the owners react. Neville do you still have Mr. Bones?

    I spy

Haaa haaa, good sight there Carbon Hunter. I spy Tricky Vicky & Mickey and Neville Bailey. Hey Neville thanks for the hike up Zwartskop..... Killer hike in the heat of the day. But got it in the end. I first went off into the trees on the right. There is an old stone wall there, a bit overgrown with trees and shrubs. Wonder when that was built? Probably from the early days maybe round the turn of the century.

Well done Rhino and Hedgehog.... and lets not forget Willow 200 great finds. What is really cool is the first 3 though. Not many cachers can say that they found their first three so far apart.
  20. Mikes pass is still to be found. Rhino and I are planning on tackling the high berg soon but also are concerned about the weather. But we will keep you informed.
  21. Amazing this would be an awesome attempt at a first cache. But climbing gear is probably not needed for the cache. Would be cool if you could join us though. Bit of real climbing skills can be shared with the hikers in us.
  22. Anyone else get one yet?

  25. I have tried the plastic bag trick but it isn't cutting it. From now on I want to go tho something with a rubber seal in the lid, the "lock 'n lock" type seems to be the best so far. I have however come across one where the log book was clammy from moisture. But I am not sure how that happened as the container was dry inside. What you can try though is to place your container on top of a rock and not on the ground so that the container itself is elevated above the possible height that the water may flow. That way it should stay dry. I have tried to also put caches under a overhang with great results. So far I have had two reported damp or water logged containers. One I can understand the other one I am not sure how that happend except for the fact that it may have been twisted slightly with the rocks on top forcing the lid open perhaps. But the plastic bag round the container actually keeps the water in rather than out. Also makes it very muddy. I managed to pick up a screw top container from the chemist which I have out in the wild at the moment. I think that this could be the best for keeping out the water. I have mentioned it elsewhere in the forums, probably the best way to test a container would be to submerge it in water with some paper inside. Leave it overnight or even a hour or so and see if any water got in. If it did, consider that container as a no go. Stay away from tin cans as water will just rust it. Funnily enough Bivane Dam the second oldest cache in SA is a coffee tin. It is pretty rusted but the contents which included some stamps was bone dry after more than 5 years in hiding. And this is near a dam wall. So there is bound to be a lot of moisture in the air.
