  1. Just put in new Lat and Long coorinates.

    Colorado Bear

Easy to do if you are already at the focus of your PQ. But what about while you are still at home and planning your trip and setting up your PQs for the trip? working by street address would take several step out of the planning and executing process. It would be a big step for Joe Geocacher to strat using PQs.

  2. Since one can search for caches by street address, why hasn't this function carried over to setting up PQs? I can not see changing my home address every time I do a PQ in a new location. This is a way to streamline setting up a new or several new PQs.

  3. B)

Your replies make sense, so i'll let that idea go ..... darn.

    thank you, all three.

say ... it seems that there are (little?) things, like this, that the website could do better for us members ...

it seems static, with little or no optimization of function over the couple of years i've been using it ...

whaddyathink about that impression ... just mine??

  4. oops / I had a duplicated entry .... but can't see how to just delete this space holder!

As in: no "delete" seen when in attempted edit mode. (geez, i'm a mess, eh?)

  5. Thank you vvm, Buggheart! I haven't yet followed the threads, but wanted to dash this off to express my appreciation. Glad to see that Michigan Cacheman may also add another dimension to his caching fun, too. Appreciate the "heads up" to get back for another look! I appreciate Trailgators suggestion too ... everyone's really ... esp now that I feel less mis-under-stood (isn't that a song somewhere? )

  6. I can't help you with the cache itself. Even if I was able to solve it I couldn't tell you here. I see that they have at least a hundred of the exact same theme so I think once you have the key, you'll be off and running. The series seems to be a hit with a particular handful of cachers so contacting one of them might be better than asking for the help here. Good luck with them and sorry I couldn't help you with the solutions.

Okay then .... thanks! Again .. I want to STRESS that I wasn't asking for any ANSWERS.

  7. It might be better to contact one of the previous finders or even the owner for a head start on the puzzle caches. Like Brian, I'll look at them and if the resolution doesn't come right away, they usually end up on the 'I' list. As far as discussing the resolution to a particular cache in an open forum like this, this is somewhat frowned upon.

Oh, I didn't know the :D 'd-upon part! But, hey, we (sandrats) are not about the #s ... and have no particular need to find any given cache. I thought about contacting the cache owners ... and certainly may end up doing so ... but first I thought there might even be some mock-up type examples just to get one thinking in the right way ..... but, yes please do take a peek at those if you would ... I'm not asking for answers, just some approaches to thinking about such things. The double part is what to do with any ideas/guesses ... eg, do they relate AT ALL to the coordinates? Even if you've done a couple nowherenearme ... I could look at them and then maybe you could tell me about them???? Pretty please.

  8. Are there any viewable examples or written suggestions of how to approach solving a mystery cache? We'd like to do this, but the ? caches in our area have only 4 #s as their "long description" and we just can't fathom how to interpret this info... and then apply any possible thoughts! (eg see GC181W4 and/or GC181W0) :D

  9. They will all work with custom POIs and one of the GSAK macros.

The 500 has a specific geocaching application, which has some pluses over just using custom POIs. Also it is waterproof, so is safer out of the car.

Thanks for the info Red90...I always like "specific gc application". what are they? would one still need to use gsak and macros to download info? Are the Garmin topo maps worth using? Anything else?

  10. Well, we're making a stab at going paperless and need to know if anyone has experience and opinions with/regarding the Garmin Nuvi 500, 760 or 770 for downloading cache data. For the actual on the ground hunt we will keep with the standard 60csx. The 760 was recommended but I can see where I can use some features of the 770. Would love to hear from cachers...

  12. Thanks guys.

Well, neo2, I was hoping for MORE .... what you do is what i, too, do now. I'd like it to be more like BBWolf+3Pigs says (and says better!). StarBrand's idea is more complex than my thinking and good, too ... esp if could be activated as an option mode. Trainlove's response isn't inline with my thought ... I know how to zoom in .. and do that, too ... also love to see the whole picture. But, trainlove, what is this "picked" and "placed" list? That might be just the ticket ... do tell!

  13. It would be user-friendly and oh-so-much-more-enjoyable to explore a trackable's history if the #s on the TB maps were tied to the placed/retrieved logs .... just one # to a cache. Is there any indication that the webmasters even read these postings?

  15. I think Friends-on-Watchlist is such an appropriate and obvious idea that I was very surprised (or in this day and age I guess I should say "stunned," eh?) that it wasn't offered as an option when I just recently started to build a friends list. So, yes, please, powers-that-be, help us as per Vt-Spike's request, couldja?

  16. Glenn / Corey ...

Well, Corey, I more or less figured there's "Not an Easy way to Do That" ... that's why it's a Feature Request! So, any insight (or influence over) why there isn't?

It's Easy to get a simple list on one's own Profile Page When I do a drop-down on, say, the list of another Geocacher's "traditional caches" it doesn't matter to me when they were placed, whether they had trackables, etc ...

Actually, Glenn ... maybe that would please you, Glenn, eh? After all, it's LESS information being given! Of course one never needs to log anything .. that keeps it really private!! By the way, I really enjoy the DNF stories, too .. esp if I didn't find it either. But Glenn of course you realize I wasn't talking about the verbal log content here, FI or DNF, don't you?

Glenn .. About the maps, aha! I didn't think about that being an optional placement by the individual cacher since it SEEMED like the maps were always below other types of stats ... maybe I just wasn't observant enough to see examples of table stats AFTER maps.

    :)

  17. 1) When going to another User's Profile Page, the most interesting thing for me is the List of the Caches which that user has logged ... in particular, where In The World those caches are (ie what Country or State).

If I click on the TAB for GEOCACHES on a User's Profile Page, I get a List with too-much-info ... spread over multiple pages (the more they've done ... the more pages there are. Each entry is multiple lines long. Each Page only holds so many entries, and one has to click & wait-for-loading of each page. Way too much work / time.

If I go onto MY OWN profile page, and click the GEOCACHES Tab, the click on "All Caches" I get a ver simple one-liner ldrop-down list showing CACHE NAME and LOCATION .... nothing more! THAT is exactly what I would like to see in checking out where other Cachers have been.

    2) I would like to have ANY MAPS a Cacher has put int their Profile Home Page to come up ABOVE the very detailed Stat Info which have a lot of personal interest to said Cacher but is not usually of interest to the casual viewer like myself.

Hey, maybe there's ALREADY A WAY to do #1 above, and I just haven't figured it out!?!? :)
