  1. Everything that I read on this unit (like the manual on Magellans website) tell's me that the Magellan XL take's an SD card, it doesn't say micro SD. Could someone who own's an XL clarify this for me, does it take the micro SD card? I will soon be ordering the XL and I will also need a card.

    Thanks,

    Jeff

I use a 2Gig SD card in my XL.

  2. I bought an XL from Tigergps just over a month ago. Just started geocaching but seems to work great and I love the large screen.

    46er man,

Did your unit from Tiger come with the promotional offer for topo 3d? It was offered for $9.99 direct from Magellan. I think that you have to call Magellan and get an unlock code? I just questioned Tigergps about this on their chat line but never did get a straight forward answer.

If your unit did come with this offer could you tell me is the offer visible on the outside of the box?

I'm not 46er man but I also bought an XL from Tiger GPS about a month ago. I returned the topo3d software I had bought because visable on the outside of the GPS box was an offer for topo3d for $9.99 from Magellan. Install the software and pay $9.99 to unlock it.

  3. I have an XL and this is my 1st GPS. There are things I like and disilike about it.

    1. Used it Sunday for about 13 hours and still have over 1/2 battery life (using Duracells)

    2. The large color screen is nice and easy to read in the daylight.

    3. I like the size of the unit, cellphone size is to small for me

4.Tracks well, my friends vista lost satellites off/on all day I never lost satellites

    5. Limited to a max of like 58 waypoints (or a number close to this) and then another route needs to be started.

    6. It has locked up on me a half dozen times, not sure but I may be pushing to many buttons to quick.

    7. I think their software leaves alot to be desired.

  4. I am new to the GPS world so bear with me. I have a Magelan XL and when I put in a route (clicking from waypoint to waypoint) it draws a straight line (does not follow the road). This happens on the PC (3d Topo)and GPS. Do I need the directroute software to get it to follow the road?

    Thanks

    yes you need directroute

Thanks for the response. I figured this was the issue.

  7. Often when discussing features of the website, the point is raised that many of the people who might feel one way, or another about a given topic never actually say anything because the forums are so hostile.

Another good point that often comes up is that the forum is where people come to learn about caching, and we should try give the best impression we can.

I'm curious to know how many people are out there quietly taking it all in.

There really is no topic here, so you can't post off topic. And since there is no topic, there needn't be any arguing either.

Feel free to use this thread to say "Hi", and introduce yourself.

I'm new here and trying to learn.
