  2. Really, there should be one container, and it is at the correct coordinates. Anywhere else is the wrong coordinates. But there are some caches that have decoys, but only one real container. Sometimes the GPSr is a little off, sometimes there is more geosense than not, sometimes there are many hiding places that are close enough to each other to be 'in the zone'. This is basically allowed. There are other times that someone adds a throwdown, but the original container is still there, thus resulting in 2 containers. This is not really a good scenario. Inside and outside of a building doesn't seem right to me -- you should not need to interact with anyone, just leave it outside for better access.

  4. huh... interesting that the 67 is built on android.

  6. That's pretty common. Just note in the logs what's happening so the cache owners know what's going on. "Found this with brandy_000 but now have my own account!" or something. There are special terms of use that apply to children - under 1.3, you must manage your children's accounts until they are 16, and they cannot post in the forums until they are 18.
  7. Hi! I started geocaching years ago - the last 10 geocaches I found together with my kids. As they are very excited about it, I want to log their finds with their personal account. Is it okay, if I register new accounts for them and log the past visits with my username, althought they´re not in the logbook? Thanks a lot!
  8. One more example, what was discussed above. Would you just believe the log below, or would you check to see, if this is correct? GCAHMJF - I - 75 County Challenge (United States) [Mausebiber](https://www.geocaching.com/profile/?u=Mausebiber) has used [Project-GC] https://project-gc.com/Challenges/GCAHMJF/84045 to see if they qualified for this challenge and they did. 9. One example, what it would look like, if everyone would post the result of the log requirements. The part where users are talking about their cache experience is almost disappearing with all the other information. [Mausebiber](https://www.geocaching.com/profile/?u=Mausebiber) has used [Project-GC](https://project-gc.com/Challenges/GCA42BG/74543 "Project-GC Challenge Checker") to see if they qualified for this challenge and they did. 10. I don't treat FPs the same way as I treat logs. I know FPs are lifetime-contributed, and I know that logs - far more descriptive - are much more temporally relevant. I think most people are capable of grasping that fundamental difference. But sure, I can cede that that's an assumption.
  11. You are not the first to get those two events mixed up. It happens!
  12. A souvenir is awarded for finding an Earthcache on Earthcache Day, which is 12-13 October this year. To my knowledge, no souvenir is awarded for Earth day.
  13. I reported an earth cache as found on April 22, 2024 but did not receive a souvenir. How come?
  14. For a whole website I'm willing to pay annually. Not for an app - not for geocaching or anything else.
  15. Yesterday
  16. For the past few weeks, I get the message that my session has expired. It happens once every week. I need to login again into the Geocaching app. This is quite annoying I have never had that before. If this is an intentional feature then why??? It is not that I have any sensitive information stored in my geocaching app. App version: 9.50.0 Android 14 (all updates to OS installed)
  17. I have two multis (created in 2015 and 2018) sharing the same virtual waypoint at a trig marker on a headland and they even use the same digit on it. It's not difficult to get to, though, just a short walk from the nearest road, and I'm not sure now why I did it except I needed a "9" for both and that was probably the only "9" I could find anywhere around the area. Sigh.
  18. GC9728Y et al. is a similar-but-not-identical construction. All nine use the same sign for stage 1, before sending you off to individual finals.
  19. See the thread from just a few days ago: But there's a reality that GPSes don't degrade (well, unless you left batteries in it while recovering) and Garmin's out of ideas. If you were happy with your Montana, it should still work as well as it ever did. The new units might be better in some super incremental ways, but there aren't huge differences in the actual player experience. It's not like tracking 38 SVs instead of 32 is going to help you much when the placer hid it with a phone and mistyped the coordinates when listing the cache page. Sure, the touch screen on an Oregon 600 is more responsive and the UX faster than that of an Oregon 400 (both models are discontinued, emphasizing my point...) but it's not like you're going to have 10% more fun replacing hardware that's a few generations back. If you're suitably determined, you can put aerial imagery on units that are 18 years old. Any of the Montanas (hint, there wasn't an 800) were pretty high-end devices, so as a fellow patient, my advice would be to get back on your feet responsibly, go outside, and play!
  20. The frustrating thing about building pocket queries for me is finding the dates to split the PQs by. It is just tedious. If I can go to Project-GC, who is a partner with Groundspeak, put in the area I want, and have it give me a list of the split dates, why can't there be a way to automatically generate the pocket queries for me?
  21. I have seen caches using the same virtual waypoint. They can also start from the same virtual waypoint. There is nothing special in this arrangement as long as the shared waypoint is virtual for every cache. It is also possible that one puzzle gives coordinates for many caches without any shared virtual waypoints.
  22. I was using GCDroid until this problem came along and their choice to go to a subscription model has caused me to start looking at other apps. Do you know if Geooh GO has solved this issue with their $5.99 one time purchase version of the app?
  23. Hypothetical concept to run past you lot: Picture a variety of multiple stage geocaches, (whether they be multi, mystery, letterbox, or even Wherigo), each starting at a different waypoint, but sharing the same second virtual waypoint. Maybe there is a small sign on an island in a lake with numbers on it, for example, but it could be anything that counts as terrain 5 (T5)and pre-existing and able to be a virtual stage. Each of these different geocaches (shown as different colors in my example diagram) could then use the information at the shared second virtual waypoint differently, based on the info at the first stages and on the cache pages to lead on to different final locations. For this to be legal, of course, all physical waypoints of different geocaches have to be at least 528 feet apart, and all placed with landowner permission (same for virtual stages). As far as I can see, this doesn't break any rules. Each individual geocache has no physical waypoints too close to another's, there are no bonus caches or equivalent since no physical waypoints are being doubled up and any of these can archive and the rest still all work. It does mean that you do T5 work one time and get rewarded with many caches, even if the T5 location is small. This would get boring if it was done ad nauseum, but as a concept, I think it works. It could be done with T4.5 and others too. I don't know if the same argument could be made for difficulty 5, but it could be considered similar. I recon you could also have ONE physical waypoint near the shared virtual second stage as it takes two physical waypoints to create a clash. There are no plans to do this yet and I don't know of it existing anywhere. Whaddayathink?
  24. Buena-N or Viton-C are the best O-ring material ( Viton is pricey and mostly for high temp. applications). I've used Buena for years with great success on all sizes of bison and also on match holders ( which I hide mostly ) where the flat gasket is problematic. I usually pick them up at Home Depot or Ebay.......I think I carry 3 sizes.
  25. Also having the same problem on my iPhone.
  26. I'm repeating myself over and over again because it's new people asking various spin off questions from stuff I already posted about. A new question comes with a new answer. I'm not archiving it, oops repeated that again..sorry not sorry. If I wasn't open to their arguments, I would have archived my caches, instead, I'm running the checkers, keeping up with who posts what, and when necessary adding finders qualifications to the electronic logs as a common ground.
  27. After creating a module with Earwigo and get it to run without problems in Webwigo, I usually still find some issues when testing it in the apps WhereYouGo (Android) and Wherigo (iOS), experiencing the range of differences between them. I am an Android user and familiar with reading the .owl log file from the WhereYouGo app, making it possible to debug. But iOS throws to me a lot of frustration: On an old iPhone which I have acecss to I struggle finding the log file at all. I found a .gws file and was finally able to copy it into a computer. Opening it in different text editors it shows mostly a lot of ### between some text. The text indicates to me that the file might be only the interpreted source code (module without medias) and not the log file I want to read. Does anyone know how to find (if the .gws isn't a log file) and open the iOS Wherigo log file in a user friendly way for debugging? It surely must exist somewhere, because on shutting down and restarting the app, it prompts me to reopen earlier saved games.
  28. I am guessing sgerbs is referring to the limiting of some types of EarthCaches from 2019. Other than river gauging stations, most of the EarthCaches being archived may still be able to be published again, if the stipulations were met. 4.5 Limiting Some EarthCache Types
