+MafiaBoss
For tall benchmarks (tops of tanks, antennas, etc) is there a disk or something to indicate that there is a benchmark there? If so, is the marker at ground level or at the top? If there is no marker at ground level, can you just take a picture of the tall object to log it? Quote Link to comment
+Black Dog Trackers
MafiaBoss - If there is no marker at ground level, can you just take a picture of the tall object to log it? YES. You should read the benchmark FAQ. There's a paragraph in there about these marks. Quote Link to comment
+MafiaBoss
Found the benchmark gallery & saw many pictures of tall things. Quote Link to comment
StripeMark
But sometimes there is a disc located on the roof and that is the "real" benchmark. Check out http://www.geocaching.com/mark/details.aspx?PID=JE1956 Quote Link to comment
+BuckBrooke
If it is an intersection station, such as a water tank or radio tower, the point of interest is the point described in the "to-reach" statement. This is the tower/tank itself, and not a disk. If there is a disk it will say so. Quote Link to comment
+BuckBrooke
If it is an intersection station, such as a water tank or radio tower, the point of interest is the point described in the "to-reach" statement. This is the tower/tank itself, and not a disk. If there is a disk it will say so, and/or give supplementary instructions to get to the actual disk. It's been a long time since I've accidentally double-logged; must have been a computer hiccup. Edited June 2, 2005 by BuckBrooke Quote Link to comment
+BilboB
You cant go wrong by reading the mark's description. If the point is the top of the tower, then there you have it. If the mark is ground level with the tower over it, there you have it again. Quote Link to comment
StripeMark
Yes, ALWAYS read the description. You'll notice that on most masts or towers the reference point is usually the "red light atop". Be sure the red light is still there! Quote Link to comment
