Darn! Looks like fun. Too bad I have today off and not tomorrow.

Yep, I figured the timing was going to be trouble. Sorry about that. Would have done it Friday but I'm getting my 20 year Alaska Airlines pin at a luncheon and I'm out for the day.

Private First Class GG, reporting for duty SIR! My middle name is "audacious" after all - just name the time and place.

I get off work at 5 AM and need a couple hours sleep. This trip shouldn't take long.

Meet at Lakeview (Where's the water?) (GCN3NN) at, say 10 AM.

Room for 1 More.

Question izzz... is there, perchance... a certain coveted TB invovled here????

Ummm. I'll take the 5th.

Perfect! Where shall we meet? Shall I once again sidle up to the ship in the sling in the slip?

No ship in the sling at the slip this go around.

More like rusty rig on the ramp. My poor 30 yr old trailer cringes going into saltwater. Kind of like an acid bath.

Going to launch at Don Armeni boat ramp.

Last time I saw Blakely Rock, there was a good size pleasure boat high and dry on it. I was an observer on a Heavy Weather Race out of the Bremerton Yacht Club. They were using Blakely Rock as a checkpoint and turnaround. During a calm sea I might be tempted to put my little 12 foot boat in at Manchester and run around to there. I could also put in at Fort Ward but that is a long dirve to get there. Enjoy your adventure. Dick, W7WT

I am interested in your experience in beaching your boat etc. Bruce Ajetpilot and I are thinking about going after that cache for our 900th find. We used my 12 foot Hi Laker and 9.9 Merc outboard to go to Blake Island. We both enjoyed the trip. We would be putting in at Manchester and looks like about a 5 mile run. If the water is calm I can get it up on a plane and keep it there if I run the little motor at full power. GPS indicated about 15 mph on the last trip. So we should make the trip in 20 or 30 minutes if the sea is calm. If I have to throttle down and lose plane it would take much longer. Boat has a wide beam and is fairly seaworthy. I now have 875 finds and Bruce has almost that many. So not sure when we would be going. I have the room for more people but not the horsepower. Sorry. However if anyone with a boat that would be interested in join ing us, keep tuned. We will probably stop by Blake Island and look for your cache on the way back. Thanks, Dick, W7WT

Your 12' HiLaker would be more than sufficient for the trek.

I have Th/Fr off for the next 2 weeks. (I'm rotating into (M/T/W) off soon. If you decide to do this on any of those days. I'd be happy to run the boat over to give up to 2 others a lift to the rock and Blake Island. (And 2 small boats are ALWAYS bettwe than one.) Or I could run my 24' up there from Des Moines and get 7-8 people on it and stand off the rock whilst you ferry them to the cache.

I'd love to go, but during the week doesn't work for me with the girls to take care of. Sounds like lots of fun, tho!

How old are the girls and how many are there. I have some child PFD's and kids LOVE boat rides. My son (16 now) at 18 months took the 24' from Des Moines to Rivers Inlet. Thats 500 miles one way including 90 miles of open ocean.

This was a KICK. My 60th find. GG and I met at my house about 9:30. After some discussion about seasickness and a search for my seasickness armbands. (We found 1.) We made our way to the boat ramp. After some miscues (Thanks autorouting.) we dropped the boat in the water.

Coming from Don Armeni boat ramp near Alki we made 19.5 to 20 Kts so it was a mere 15-20 minute run in a very light chop. I had looked over the terraserver pixs and my 24' boat chartgraph GPS and swung wide to the south. Most of the east end was awash and I could see the telltale swirl of motor eating rocks just 15-20 feet from the south side of the shell beach. I held off at 50-60 yds and noted the shell beach extended westward underwater for quite a distance. I made my approach from due west up the length of the shell beach. No problems beaching the boat. Keeping it there was another matter. I set the hook and drug the boat a good 10 feet onto the beach. By the time we doffed our PFD's the swells had knocked it loose and was taking it easterly down the S side of the beach. We pulled it along the beach for 25 yds, set the hook on the beach and watched for a few minutes. The boat was secure and off we went with 240ft to the cache.

I was also concerned about seals/sealions as I do not like to break the 100 yd limit on them. Fortunately all those we could see were on the east side and remainded undisturbed.

As we scrambled over the barnacle encrusted rocks we came upon a seal pup at about 25 feet. The cache was in sight at 40 ft and the pup remained undisturbed.

We snagged the cache and took some pix.

Note the Benchmark which I will soon log.

While it was hazy we had excellent skyline views of Seattle.

In our haste we had left our swag in the boat so I made a quick trip to retrieve our stuff.

Signed the log and took in the views. Saw seals and I spotted an otter but he went down before gg could see him.

These tidepools bear more inspection but I was running on no sleep in over 24 hours at the time so we moved on.

Off we went to Blake Island to retrieve a wayward TB from out previous trip.

What a marvelous day.

Let's see. Crowbar for 50, this one for 60. Man I have some work to do for my 100th. <_<

For me this is what it's all about. Quality caching with good people. If ANYONE wants to do this cache and we can align the trip with my days off. (Weekends are out, sorry  ) I'll be more than happy to drop the boat in the water for the trip. The boat can handle myself and 2 others at a time. (More if they are kids.) While I have extremely limited geocaching experience, if this cache doesn't qualify as one of your best experiences. I'LL BUY THE BEER.

Well I dare say I have a tad more caching experience under my geobelt (a mere 300+), and rest assured C5 - it won't be you buying the cerveza!

Indeed, purely one of the finest all 'round geo-capers ever. Surely couldn't have been better (though CENT5 neglected to mention the 12 ft. swells and gale winds - NOT!) The company, first-rate. The weather, divine. The water, but ripples. And the bitty Blakely Rock - utterly enchanting.

The pics tell the tale...

...a tale of a wondrous trip.

That started from an Alki port,

aboard a (fearfully) tiny ship.

(We're going in THAT bitty what? DUCK BOAT? Geez CENT5, we're verily the smallest boat on the Sound!)

(Ah but...) The mate was a mighty sailin' man,

the skipper (indeed) brave and sure.

So the intrepid duo set sail that day,

for a three hour tour, a three hour tour………

(make that - not a moment over 45 minutes and the box was DOWN!)

The weather started getting rough (NOT!),

the tiny ship was tossed (nonsense!).

If not for the courage of the fearless crew (nuh-uh, nuthin' to fear save the coast guard hauling us over for a strip-search for drugs...)

the GeoCache would be lost; the GeoCache would be lost.

(no way Jose - we NABBED that puppy COLD! Indeed, Co-FTFers - well o.k. CENT5 kindly gave me an "assist" )<_<

In short? Truly among the very BEST geo-adventures EVER - thanks Skipper!

Ooh! Ooh! Me! Me! <_<

I can usually jiggle around my schedule to be available on Wednesdays or Fridays, once in a while on Thursdays too.

I'll be watching in case you decide to make another trip!

I'm open so far for next Friday. (10th)

Tides are plummeting but an 11:00 AM arrival at the rock would be peachy.

Hey I'm off Fridays.  I don't work that day either  :) .  Can I take that seat?

You've got it.

This run is now full.

If more wish to go it's a mere 20-30 minute run to the rock from the boat ramp and I could stagger another start time later in the day. This run will leave the ramp at 10 AM and be back by--Noon absolute latest.

Oh great. Now I get to take a couple 1000+ finders out. If they don't like it maybe I can save the cost of the beer by tossing them overboard. :)

Naw I'll just have Cathy drive. That should scare the bejezus out of them and they won't tell.

Hey!  :D  I didn't hit nothin' last time!  :D

True, True you did a fine job. But there's no wheel on this rig :D

How bout meeting at Don Armeni Boat Ramp at 10AM?

N 47.35.572

W 122.22.957

Cathy since you are coming from south you can either meet us there or swing by my place Lakeview and ride down with me. Makes no difference either way. Just let me know.

If ya'll are up to extending the day a bit we could run down to Blake Island and have Marcus do a little Quality Control run on Blake Island Manse

Then Shorebirdy is a short (15 minute) run and the tide for that should be decent if you have'nt done it before. (I have not.)

My schedule is open so it's up to ya'll. You point and we'll go.

Looking forward to it.

What time shall I meet you at Lakeview?

Any side trips will be gleefully anticipated.

Thanks, Cent5!  This is going to be fun!

9:15 works well. I have to take daughter to school at 8:00 and by the time I get the boat hooked up etc it'll be 9:15.

Looking at the map and the tides it looks like our best bet is to go straight to Blake Island. Have Marcus do a QC run on Blake Island Manse. Run around the south side of the island and if he doesn't have Blakes Baretta it would be a quick grab from the beach.

The following all have potential and I THINK we can get to them from the water:

Mosquito Fleet 10

Shorebirdy

Mosquito Fleet 1

Colchester Park

Thanks to the Veterans

Ya-Ya Lunch Club Old Soldier Cache

I'd like to leave our main target: YLEKALB KCOR Untill we are headed back. We have a minus 1.29ft tide at 1:55 PM and I'd like to get a look at the rock with the water 3-4 ft lower than last run.

Should be a gas!!!!

This cache Seems to have been in a bit of distress for quite awhile.  Cathy, would you be so kind as to bring your backpack?  I'll prep a rescue ammo can.

Happy to bring the pack. The cache looks like it may have been abandoned, though. Owner hasn't logged on since November 30, 2004. If you're going to replace it, you may want to consider adopting it too.

If it's not there we'll see at that time. If it's still there adoption is an option.

Looking forward to the run.

I just found myself unexpectedly free on Fri- my youngest has a playdate. Sorry I didn't know earlier! :)

Would Love to have you join us if you like. Will make the trip all that more enjoyable. The weather is supposed to be decent (perhaps a bit cool on the water) and the winds calm. The boat will easily handle the load just a tad slower than the 1st run.

The boat is rated for 1250 lb's. I may be a bit portly but we will be well within it's capabilities. :D

Warning to all. The possibility of having to do some "mudding' is pretty high. :D

Since Cathy and I are leaving my place at 9:15 it will be closer to 9:45 when we hit the dock.

Looking forward to it.

Since there is a high likelihood of mud, how boot-friendly is this boat?  Can I wear boots or should I just bring them along?

Ummmm. if you look at the pix above you can tell it's not white gelcoat like the 24 footer :P

It is a duck hunting boat. I typically don't hose my muddy lab off after a retrieve as he is hauled over the side of the boat, mallard in mouth spray flying.

This is a working boat Hon. Beached on barnacles, run up on rocks, slid thru the sand.

You can't possibly hurt it with boots :P (Unless, of course, they're the leather 4" Spike high heel model.) :P

Oh yea-- might be a good idea to pack a snack or lunch. I suspect we will be back at the dock around 2.

(Ohhh Man I need this after the week I had at work.)
