Waldpiraten
We just placed a cache. Sombody tried to find the cache but he wasn´t successfull, so he wrote FDNF. DNF = Did not find FDNF = ?DNF What does the F stands for ? Quote Link to comment
+jcar
Well, I thought it was for First to Do Not Find, but I have thought the other while searching. Quote Link to comment
+fauxSteve
I've been thinking the other meaning a lot lately, whether I'm first not to find or not! Quote Link to comment
+Glenn
Congratulations on placing your first geocache. It looks like people enjoy hunting it! Even the First Did Not Find entry. Edited June 1, 2005 by Bushwhacked Glenn Quote Link to comment
+Deliveryguy428
I like DNFTSFC but we wont go there Quote Link to comment
+Hoppingcrow
Waldpiraten, I suspect your first language is not English. The first F in FDNF is a strong word of English profanity. Edited June 1, 2005 by Hoppingcrow Quote Link to comment
+vree
maybe i'm naive, but because it was the first log and the log wasn't really attitude-y, i would have read it as First Did Not Find. Quote Link to comment

Just ignore them. Some people just have their minds in the gutter. Don't let it bring you down. The only way we will know for sure is if bit twiddler tells us. Until then I'm keeping my mind out of the gutter. Quote Link to comment
+Renegade Knight
First Did Not Find. FTF + DNF = FDNF Quote Link to comment
+carleenp
Several possibilities have been mentioned. Here is another: f and d are next to each other on the keyboard. It could have just been a typo where the person hit the next key over once before typing the dnf part. Unlikely, but possible. Edited June 1, 2005 by carleenp Quote Link to comment
+VegasCacheHounds
maybe the cacher was overcome by the beauty of the cache site, and was stating "Fortionatly I Did Not Faint" Quote Link to comment

+Tharagleb
I like DNFTSFC but we wont go there I think I will start using that, a *lot*. Thanks. Quote Link to comment
+Joypa
I sent the fdnf originator and email. If he responds, we'll know what he meant. Quote Link to comment

"watchdawg and I spent 40 minutes trudging all over the place for this one. So,... guess we'll do the next best thing and post a FDNF. *sigh* " I cringe when I see initials because I can't figure out what they mean most of the time since I normally don't speak that way. But this one seemed obvious to me after reading the log. Salvelinus Quote Link to comment

+Joypa
And here we have the answer to my email. "I'd be curious which forum (as there are so many) that the discussion has been taking place. I actually made it a bit of a joke. Since I didn't make the first find (FTF), ... I thought'd I'd play a bit and be the first did not find (FDNF) " Mystery solved! Quote Link to comment
+an0maly
I had heard about this thread, but only found it today. I be that poster. As my response to a private e-mail was posted, I was playing with the FTF and DNF... It was intended to be First to DNF. No, I wasn't trying to be vulgar..... although I and watchdawg were getting very irritated as we tore that bridge apart trying to find the cache (which watchdawg went back that evening and found in a spot we both had thoroughly looked....leading me to wonder if we got there before it was placed). bit twiddler Quote Link to comment
+VegasCacheHounds
Hey bit twiddler, welcome to the forums. Its always great to get the story straight from the hourses mouth, so to speak. Quote Link to comment
+watchdawg
Although bit twiddler and I were pretty disappointed that we didn't find this cache over lunch, vulgarity never even crossed our minds. Ok, maybe a little! watchdawg Quote Link to comment

Thanks, I would have been here sooner, but it took me awhile to find this needle in the Groundspeak haystack. Quote Link to comment
+Night Stalker
I guess I need to add this to my logging vocabulary since I am often first to DNF a cache. What really upsets me is that they are often rated 1/1. In fact just this morning I was searching for one of those. Guess I need to add that to my log. tossedsalad
Wouldn't it be more like FTNF? Quote Link to comment
+an0maly
Wouldn't it be more like FTNF? I thought of FTDNF after the fact... Probably would make more sense. But since I was coining an acronym on a whim, it seemed appropriate at the time. Quote Link to comment
+MountainMudbug
I've seen cachers log a "FNTF" - First Not To Find I wouldn't have guessed a vulgar intent on the "FDNF", even though I'm quite vulgar myself I would have assumed it to be First Did Not Find Quote Link to comment
