momnme
Need help from someone experienced with this unit. Attended an REI GPS 101 class, have been caching with a friend using their unit. Now have my own Vista C, have followed all instructions re. installation of Garmin "Trip and Waypoint Manager", plugged in USB cord, and asked to install selected waypoints. It didn't work, do I need to do something else? Are they being sent to a file on my PC and then I download them to my garmin unit, or are the going directly there, or are they going nowhere? HELP!! I know this is probably simple, and I'm technologically impaired, but.... Quote Link to comment
+the hermit crabs
I use EasyGPS to download waypoints to the Vista C. It's free. You can get it from easygps.com. After you install it, go to "File -> Preferences" and click "Add GPS". EasyGPS does not yet have an option for the Vista C, so you need to pick something else. Don't pick "Vista", because that unit doesn't have a USB port -- pick "GPSMAP 60C" instead. Connect your Vista C to your USB port. In EasyGPS, use "File -> Open" to open your .gpx file or .loc file (which you get from geocaching.com), and then "GPS -> Send Waypoints to GPS", to transfer them. (If it doesn't work, try "GPS -> Test serial connection" and "GPS -> GPS version info" to see if you can narrow down the problem). Hope this helps. +denali7
when you plug in to the usb and begin the download process, there is a pop up screen on which you have to identify your gps model. don't use vista c, it doesn't work for anyone. use the 60c setting, that's what everyone who has vista c does. i don't know why this is, but it works just fine on that setting. it's a frustrating problem i was going crazy with until someone here told me about what to do. otherwise, you will love your vista c more and more every day!!
