lost in the woods 2
Hi, I am an extreme newbie and am anxious to get out looking for caches. I just purchased a Garmin GPSMap 60CS and am wondering what is the best software to use to download the waypoints off the geocaching website to my Garmin? I didn't get any of the mapsource CD's yet so I guess I am just working off the base map...is that sufficient at this point? Thanks! Quote Link to comment

That'll work or try GSAK like a bunch of the geocaching world has done. Here is the current threat: http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php...ic=96643&st=450 Quote Link to comment
+TwoTruckers
Well I will be on this same adventure as you, I just purchased a GPS60 and am eagerly waiting for it to arrive. It is my intention to use "Easy GPS" It has been good for me with my SPIII and GPSIII (which will be retiring soon). Otherwise I was reading in the description of what comes with the unit, supposedly the CD that ships withthe unit is designed for sending and retrieving points from the unit. Anyway back to "Easy GPS" its a free download from www.easygps.com you can download all your caches in the .loc file format, open the file with "Easy GPS" and do any editing you migh want t do, (small notes, change name)etc.. Then just send all the points to your unit. After I get mine I will let you know how well it works for me. DJ Edited May 26, 2005 by TruckRDJ Quote Link to comment

+briansnat
EasyGPS is probably the easiest method. Geocaching Swiss Army Knive (GSAK) will be useful once you become a bit more advanced. Quote Link to comment
+RocketMan
The 60CS comes with Garmin’s Trip and Waypoint Manager which is essentially a US basemap that runs in Mapsource. The latest version of Mapsource will open GPX Pocket Query files directly, so you can just open a GPX file and then upload the waypoints to your GPS from Mapsource. You need Mapsource 6.5 which you can get here if your 60CS comes with an older version. Quote Link to comment
+tnfishdaddy
GSAK. Well worth the money. Heck, you can even try it out for free to see if you like it. It will do everything you want it to do and more. Quote Link to comment
+Miragee
I agree. I had never worked with at database program before, so it had a steep learning curve for me. However, now that I have figured it out a little bit, it has replaced about four other programs I used to have to use to get waypoints into my GPSr and into my Palm M500. Give Geocaching Swiss Army Knife at whirl. Quote Link to comment
