Explorist 300 And Maybe 400

I need a new unit and lean towards Megellan since all my map CDs are compatible. Budget is tight and the 300 looks like a decent mid-range unit. But it's non-mapping. So, has anyone seen the 400? How does it perform? What did you pay for it?

I don't think the 400 has been put into general release yet...it's supposed to be "end of May." Most of us here would advocate for the 4/5/600's computer connectivity as a slam-dunk over the 1/2/300 non-connectivity. You'll be able to use the 400 for lots more things.

IF you are going to want to load a detailed map into your GPS, you will not have this option with the 300 as Embra state there is no way to send data to the explorist 300. As far as maps being compatible, this only holds true for Map Send topo 3D and Map Send Direct route.

the explorist 400 has more options and is a mapping unit, if you never had a mapping unit its very nice to see the streets when traveling in the middle of nowhere.

THIS IS ONE OF MY POST:

 

I am really bothered since I bought my explorist 300. First off I think it has great accuracy, but here is a list of items that I think are crazy!

 

1. The weather is off by 20 degrees all the time (support says "this is just a reference number and most units are off") 20 degrees? What the hell kind of reference is that!

 

2. I have to re calibrate my electric compus after every use! I can't believ how off it is when i turn it on...should have stuck with the regular compas that updates when I move! (support says this can happen)

 

3. Turned on unit yesturday and all way points were erased! (support said to reset unit and all will be fine....ya, for now, but what about come hunting season after i mark 40 tree stands!!)

 

4. On top of all this support takes for ever and there standard answer is "ya, sometimes that can happen" WOW BRILLIANT ANSWER!

 

I am near my 60 days with cabelas and I am ready to ship it back. Please tell me this is just a lemon unit! I want to get the eplorist 200 and screw that electric compas if I have to recalibrate every time!

 

I really like the accuracy, but come on..when i am using the goto function and the electric compus is pointing me the wrong way every time....that sucks!

 

Anyone else have the 300 and experiencing the same garbage?

 

Other than that...the unit locked on well, but I just returned it and bought the 200. I don't need mapping capabilities and all other features will work well for me. i just wished the electric compus worked better!!
