+Bos Posted May 25, 2005 Posted May 25, 2005 Anyone thought of accessing NGS datasheets directly from geocaching's benchmark pages? Maybe NGS would object but if not it would give us much easier access to latest updated data sheets. Seems like it'd be easy enough to change link for geocaching.com's ''view original datasheet '' FROM http://www.geocaching.com/mark/datasheet.aspx?PID=GV0299 TO http://www.ngs.noaa.gov/cgi-bin/ds_mark.prl?PidBox=GV0299 I doubt it would significantly increase the load on NGS servers so they probably wouldn't care. +BuckBrooke Posted May 25, 2005 Posted May 25, 2005 Bos, see this discussion in the Groundspeak "official" unofficial NGS forum. There's a conversation developing about changes to the Geocaching page for each PID/benchmark. Quote
evenfall Posted May 25, 2005 Posted May 25, 2005 Bos, NGS Has already placed the up to today's date fresh Datasheets in the public domain. You can download 100 counties or 1 station. No Matter. It is an unlocked door. I advocate that Geocaching get their data from NGS fresh every page. Yup. It makes the best sense. It is the best way to go. Once this is set up, Geocaching's data is as fresh as NGS from here on out. As things are Geocaching's data will only get older and more out of date. What could be better? Only the Queried Stations would ever create draw on bandwidth. Jeremy likely knows how much bandwidth is being used creating Benchmark pages via PID query per day on his site and from his databased information. Maybe someone should email Jeremy and ask what his site Stats are for this is? Anyhow, Great Idea Bos. I second the motion. It is a very doable model. Rob Quote
