Rowdy Bunch
I am going to Gun Barrel City, TX, on Memorial Day weekend and would like to go caching, but I can't find any caches in that area. Does anyone know of any caches around there, or do you know the coordinates so I can call up a cache list? Thanks! Edited May 24, 2005 by Rowdy Bunch Quote Link to comment
+WildGooseChase
Try Yahoo or Google and search for "gun barrel city zip code". Use that zip code to get any caches nearby. (Closest one is 7.2 miles) Looks like slim pickins in the area. Quote Link to comment

Rowdy Bunch
Thanks, guys. I did look up the ZIP codes and couldn't find any close to where we're going. How did you google the coordinates? I couldn't find any web site that would find it out for me. I will try putting in the coordinates and see what pops up. Quote Link to comment
+Cardinal Red
I just Googled Gun Barrel City Texas Longitude This is what I found on the Web Site I Chose to use (provided very good resolution, and had a handy map): Gun Barrel City is located at 32°19'44" North, 96°8'11" West (32.328980, -96.136406) Notice they provided HDD.DDDDDD and HDDMMSS I had to convert to HDDMM.mmm Quote Link to comment
Rowdy Bunch
Hey, thanks for the tips. After some googling I stumbled upon a geocaching.com feature I didn't know existed. I don't know how to navigate to it, but if you call up geocaching.com/map, you can see a map of the entire world. You click onto the place you want to cache, and you can narrow it down to the area and see the names of all the caches there! It's easier and better than looking up caches by ZIP code! thefabfive
Wow, I didn't know anyone except me even knew Gun Barrel City existed!! I grew up in Athens and I have place 8 or so caches in Athens. That is only a few minutes from the Purtis Creek State Park caches. Quote Link to comment
+tabulator32
I worked with a lady in my office from Gun Barrel City. She told me the city saved tax dollars because they could put the "Entering Gun Barrel City" and "Now Leaving Gun Barrel City" on the same sign post. Quote Link to comment
