+SD Rowdies
O for the good old days of Geocaching when there was some interest in photo editing. Splashboat "Hell Froze Over," Stu of WallyBallers, and Sandy of SD Rowdies. Yep, that's Sandy, the ex-nun in my life. Life is good. Layout: Color blended sepia with natural sky. +Let's Look Over Thayer
Outside a club in Beijing, I saw a sign that announced some items would not be allowed inside the club. Among the forbidden items were: The first one obviously cames from a Chinese-Yiddish dictionary. Not sure how they came about the second since "leechdom" hasn't been in common use for a few hundred years... Quote Link to comment
+TrailGators
Here is one source of the problem..... Quote Link to comment
+Let's Look Over Thayer
I was cleaning up my desk and I came across one more example of an interesting translation. It comes from a brochure for the Beijing Mutianyu Great Wall Speed Chute Amusement Co., Ltd. It describes an alpine slide ride that takes you from the Great Wall back down to the parking lot (you can ride a chairlift up or you can hike up.) Toboggan mixed sports and entertainment and became a new amusiment project. It is also called 'Nonirrigated farmland sled'. Tobaggan uses the theory of acceieration of gravity and makes coasters dive along the mountain path like low-latitude flying or high-speed driving. Thrilling, amazing, safe and comfortable, it also has an auto device make speed be easily controlled by both old and young. Weigang Compnay in German made this tobaggan of stainless steel. It's 1580 meters in total length and in form of snake, it takes advantage of different situations to accordance with the mountain path, so safely send tourists from Muzihaolou to the foot of Great Wall. All spelling errors are as they are in the brochure. Of interest to geocachers is the fact that 'low-latitude flying' is apparently more thrilling than high-latitude flying... Quote Link to comment
