You can also leave your GPSr connected to the computer and S&T will show your current location and (relatively) good directions to your next stop.

 

But no, it's not a smart enough program to download maps to the GPS.

Ok, how do we go about doing that?

Plug your GPS computer cable into the serial port.

 

Make sure the GPS is set to use NMEA senteces.

 

Go into S&T, on the menu click on tools:GPS:configure reciever and select the right serial port

 

go back to tools:GPS: and select track position

 

Make sure the GPS is on and can see some sats and you are ready to go.

Yeah, that is a very cool thingy to use.  My computer tech son has our laptop set up to use the gps to show our location on the Streets and trips program.  It's cool to see the little car move along the map as you progress on your trip.  Very neat! :lol:

True, but sadly MS Streets & Trips WON'T tell you if you're off course. Delorme's Street Atlas will.
