Northeast version of GeoWoodstock?

I just looked over the Glen Gray site. It looks like it has the capacity to handle a really big event, perhaps like GeoWoodstock '06 or '07. Is it contiguous to Ramapo Reservation? That could create some good cache hikes. Plenty of rustic housing for those who like it on the cheap (not enough of that in North Jersey). Campgaw is up the road if there is overflow and there are motels in Mahwah, Ramsey, etc. for those who can't take the rustic stuff.

Bergen County Parks Department seems friendly enough to cachers and their parks don't appear to have restrictions on caching. Harriman is close too, and there are still plenty of caches there that should survive under their rules package. Not to mention all of the random acts of geocaching that occur in suburban pocket parks and parking lots.

Any thoughts?

I think its a great idea. It is contiguious to Ramapo Reservation and Ramapo Mtn State Forest.

Unfortunately I think the fact that most of the many caches there require a bit of work to get to and there aren't 500 lamp post micros within 5 miles, it would not be considered for a Geowoodstock type of event.

A Northeast or Tri-state Geo Gala?

That would be cool. Perhaps northeast + New England. Being that Ct, RI and Mass are probably closer to Glen Gray than Virginia and West Virginia.

At the request of one of the thread participants, I split the above posts into a separate topic from this topic, which had veered in a new direction. Use this thread to discuss the possibility of a big event at this location.

I'll offer a great analogy; check out the Midwest GeoBash, which is shaping up to be the Midwest's regional version of GeoWoodstock.

At the request of one of the thread participants...

That was me. Thanks Keystone!

Here is a link to Glen Gray for those who didn't see it in the other thread.

Also, here is a cache map of the general area. Glen Grey is in the center, surrounding Lake Vreeland.

I'd be willing to travel to N. NJ for something like this.

Brian have YOU ever tried to find one of paint fiction or the federation or zepherus's " lamp post micros", you might be in for a suprise.

We decided that attendees from each state will share a cabin.

At least it's handicap accessible. Though humble, perhaps the mobilitity of the LIer's cabin may help explain the thrashing the natives of the long island are administering to their Joisey opponents in the CTF game/rout.

Hey PT,

Since the CTF game started your posts have doubled! :D:o Aren't you on billable hours!

Called camp Glen Gray reservations today to discuss the fees and open dates. Will add info when they call me back.

Avroair--They don't call you back. It is done online. Telephones are just so 90's.

Also, they only allow people from New Jersey to stay in Glen Gray Proper all others mus sleep in Dormaville.

Boy Scout Groups are still given preference in facilities. Reservations in Winter Months for Group Cabins are frequently hard to come by--they book out. I have done the lean tos. There is a lot of tradition in this Camp.

Au contrare Pack, they DO call you back. Lou from Glen Gray called me today but I wasn't at my desk. He said he would try again tomorrow.

When he calls you reserve Dormaville for the LI contingent, please. It is on top of a steep hill. :D

I really put the link so people could get a good look. It really is a fun place to weekend, close by , yet feels removed.
