kstate
Just ordered my Garmin eTrex Legend with a case from Amazon. Cost was $138 (I applied for an Amazon Visa Card). I'm looking forward to my first find with an actual GPS. I'm sure that I will have lots of questions once I get this thing in my hot little hands. Quote Link to comment

+Rubiconlwb
Brace yourself for the addiction! If you are intrigued enough to purchase the GPS, you will fall head over heals for this aversion! Do yourself a favor, get your family involved if you possibly can. My Grand-Daughter is as hooked as her 'PaPa' and we have the most fun together. Nothing better for a bonding experience than when Grandma and Grandpa and 6-year-old go geocaching. We usually have to take a lunch and we ALWAYS have to go for a walk, whether the cache is 100 feet away or a mile away! Welcome! Edited May 7, 2005 by Rubiconlwb Quote Link to comment

+Ralphbongo
Welcome to the group.Next week you can sell your tv and video games on ebay so you will have more money for caching . After all you won't be watching them anymore.......Enjoy Quote Link to comment
+backinthesaddle
It's all a huge, secret, nefarious plot by Garmin and Magellan, aka "the twin sisters", to sell more of their hardware! Do not be fooled! Don't do it! It is one of the things your mother should have warned you about! Quote Link to comment
+CompuCash
welcome! it might help your frustration level if you do a little preparation for what you want to do for downloading - check out this posting and it's links - http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php...0entry1423844 cc\ Quote Link to comment
+Bellageo Cache Game
I'm in, too! In fact, I got to my first cache location but there were waaaayyy too many muggles around. I'll have to revisit with my invisibility cloak. Quote Link to comment
+webscouter.
Hi K-State, Welcome to the game. If you need any help I have found several of the caches in your area. Also you might check out the local forums at http:\mogeo.ipbhost.com\ Quote Link to comment
+tapone
I too just joined in the fun. Bought a Legend with Map Source, cig adapter, pc cable for $184, didn't think it was too bad of a deal. I am trying to get my family to join me on my latest obsession as my dear wife says. Have found one cache already w/o the unit, but have been looking for more. Is there a way to get your accuracy closer that 20-25 feet. I am lucky to get that. Usually is at 32 feet. Clear sky overhead, WAAS enabled. Any suggestions welcome. Looking forward to be an active member here! Quote Link to comment
+Cache Squirrel
New as well here with one geocache find and 5 Benchmarks. Just picked up a eTrex to help add to the fun. Looking forward to getting out there for more finds. Bye -CS Quote Link to comment
+tapone
I have a new benchmark just down the road... It's not in the databank as far as I can tell. (Was just put there in 2002) What do I need to do to see if it is recorded? Quote Link to comment

Looking forward to be an active member here! Shut off Waas. The northern states like Wisc don't get good Wass satellite reception. It just slows down the satellite locks. At least that's what I found here in NY. Also, if you're under any foliage, the EPE error will be worse. If you set your GPS down on a stump, and just let it settle, you should find closere EPE' than 32 but probably not less than 12-20 feet ON A CLEAR SKY WITH NO FOLIAGE. Good luck. Which neatly answers the question, "if they give you the coordinates, where's the challenge?" Quote Link to comment
Pinon
I recently bought a Magellan MeriGold. I live in Wisconsin and when I lock on to WAAS, (which is most of the time) the accuracy of my unit is extremely good. Quote Link to comment
