Etrex Legend

Ok, the fastest my Legend has ever travelled is maybe a little over a hundred miles per hour... Settings had just been cleared a couple weeks ago yet I noticed yesterday that on the Max Speed listing it shows 437MPH... ??? Any idea what caused this and why? Unit seems to be working just fine.

Thanks,

A while back there was a thread about maximum speeds. I'm not sure what causes it, but some people's units went way faster than that . . .

Looking back through my mountain biking tracklogs, that tends to happen when I think I get a brief stray signal from a satellite. As a result, the track suddenly shifts position for a few seconds a few hundred feet to one side, then shifts back. Those transition legs tend to be when it comes up with a speed in the 100-200 mph range. I'm not sure whether this is a result of a multi-path error, or a weak signal overall, but they don't tend to happen much in good reception conditions.

I get that too when I get poor reception. I've seen speed up to 1700Kph (1056Mph) while drive at normal speed.

But, the fastest my Legend has really travelled is 800Kph (approx. 500Mph). I was on a plane between NYC and Montreal. That was cool!

Ciao!

I've had the unit for a couple years with no problems...just wanted to make sure this wasn't an upcoming problem. So long as its not just mine I guess all is well.

Thanks,
