Dennisfauchez Posted April 30, 2005 Posted April 30, 2005 (edited) Thought this is the time of year when everyone is finally hosing off the Salt residue from their cache mobiles and getting ready to hit the Streets and Trails again. So I thought it would be a nice way to start off the season by Bragging a bit about your Cache-Mobiles.... Please post some pics of your rides here and give us a bit of a description Thanks Happy Caching -D- Edited April 30, 2005 by Dennisfauchez Quote
+Team Tigger International Posted May 1, 2005 Posted May 1, 2005 If I'm going caching solo, this is it. 24/7/365, this is all the Wulf has to drive. Sad isn't it. Wulf Quote
+Hard Oiler Posted May 2, 2005 Posted May 2, 2005 Thinking of one of these but the gas mileage is a killer: Quote
+Team TeeKay Posted May 2, 2005 Posted May 2, 2005 Here is mine. A 2005 Nissan Pathfinder 4x4. Just what I need to get me too all those well hidden Island caches. Could be better on the fuel! Hopefully this picture works! Team TeeKay Quote
+chris-mouse Posted May 2, 2005 Posted May 2, 2005 Here is the vehicle I uses for a lot of my caching. It's not overly fast, but it's great for those off road caches, and the gas mileage is just awesome. Quote
+Couparangus Posted May 2, 2005 Posted May 2, 2005 Hey Chris-Mouse, I like the antenna! Here's mine. Note the addition of a bell to warn slower cachers of my approach. (ladybug not included) Cheers! C-A Quote
Curious George Posted May 3, 2005 Posted May 3, 2005 95 4Runner with bike and yak racks - note the tripod on the roof, it has an external GPS antenna on it attached to a Garmin GPS Map76S. It was being used in conjunction with a laser range finder to determine a very exact position of an object Quote
+fizbot Posted May 3, 2005 Posted May 3, 2005 (edited) Here is my Cash car... I mean Cache Car. At least it's the summer one. Had to go for the convertible in order to get the additional Satellite coverage!! Definitely helps getting from cache to cache quickly. (as long as there are not dirt roads involved) Fizbot Edited May 3, 2005 by fizbot Quote

+kashia Posted May 5, 2005 Posted May 5, 2005 So far we've walked to nearby ones or driven our Subaru Wagon. However, inspired by the couple of bike pictures above I just ordered a bike mount from GPSCity. I ride a lot from March through November and had been wondering how best to combine biking and caching. Now I know, thanks! Ian PS - this is my second post ... what does 'Tadpole' mean on the left? I'm guessing it changes the more posts you make? Quote
EtrexTodd Posted May 6, 2005 Posted May 6, 2005 A lurker who cant resist showing off his vehicles My off road and on water combo This ones for the nice days Todd Quote
+geobc Posted May 6, 2005 Posted May 6, 2005 For those off-road caches, I use my Jeep: For on-road, I use my '91 VW Jetta turbo Diesel (gutless but frugal) or my wife's '92 VW Eurovan Westfalia camper for those longer highway campin' trips. I found the most in the Jetta, though. GeoBC Quote
+chris-mouse Posted May 6, 2005 Posted May 6, 2005 My off road and on water combo OK, I can't resist. How do you flip it over when you're going from land to water? Quote

I ride a lot from March through November and had been wondering how best to combine biking and caching. Now I know, thanks! Ian Glad to see you like the idea. I'm actually combining three hobbies with my bike. The cycling itself, the geocaching, and the antenna on the back is used for my amateur radio. Every time there's a walkathon or similar event in the area, I volunteer to provide a route patrol, complete with radio communications back to the event headquarters. Quote
EtrexTodd Posted May 7, 2005 Posted May 7, 2005 OK, I can't resist. How do you flip it over when you're going from land to water? Nothing to it , listen to the news, its a SUV they roll over all the time . Todd Quote
+MaisOui & Avrohead Posted May 7, 2005 Posted May 7, 2005 PS - this is my second post ... what does 'Tadpole' mean on the left? I'm guessing it changes the more posts you make? Hi there! You are correct that it changes, but just once. When you hit "10" posts, you become a "Geocacher," forever and always, unless you become a Premium Member, in which case, you can change your Forum Title to whatever you like. We happen to enjoy "The Princess Bride." (We are a family of cachers, so you get a family movie reference in our title .) On topic, our caching vehicle is usually a Ford Windstar if we take the dog, a Saturn LS 2 if we don't. We're not big offroading people, but the Windstar has been offroad a couple of times!! Dennisfauchez Posted May 8, 2005 Author Posted May 8, 2005 (edited) This is MY cache mobile. I love this thing. Built it from nothing up. It maxs out at about 60 on flat land, but I've gotten it to about 70-80 on hills (I plan to set a personal best thi summer and record my speed with the GPS) -D- Edited May 8, 2005 by Dennisfauchez Quote

+Couparangus Posted May 13, 2005 Posted May 13, 2005 I'm selling one of my cache-mobiles right now if anyone is interested. Lots of pictures and info, just email me. It comes with a GPS holder and a set of 4 snows on rims too. No deer, moose, fox, coyote or chipmunk damage. Gets to caches fast & economically. No disappointments. Quote

+murfster Posted May 16, 2005 Posted May 16, 2005 Dennis.. I don't have a picture of my cachemobile..( 04 Toyota van ) but I have to tell you I have enjoyed the pictures and everyones good humor. Great thread!! Thanks Murfster Quote
+chris-mouse Posted May 18, 2005 Posted May 18, 2005 OK, I just couldn't resist posting this image. Sometimes the bicycle isn't quite so slow as you might think. I snapped this image while on a caching trip today. Just so you know what to look for, the GPS is set to display four numbers. The top number is the speed, in km/hr. the next number down is the current time, then the distance to go, and finally the direction to turn at the bottom. Quote
+Deneye Posted May 18, 2005 Posted May 18, 2005 I can't imagine snapping a photo on a bicycle at 60 mph...what'd you use, your teeth? Quote
+Couparangus Posted May 18, 2005 Posted May 18, 2005 Let's see, bikes aren't allowed on the 400 series highways so you must've been on secondary roads where the limit is 80kmh. I'm afraid I'm going to have to report you for speeding - and this is a 3 point ticket! All kiddin' aside, I concede that you've earned the kamikaze geo-cycling crown! Quote
