Cache Placement Rates

I have just discovered the very interesting "cache tools" page on GUK and went to the Cache placement over time chart. I am astounded at the figures for March and April this year - over four hundred new caches placed in March  and again in April :D and there's another week to go yet!

Not sure how July already has one hidden though  an event cache booked, maybe?

More praise due for our very busy reviewers. How do they find the time to get out themselves and find treasure in the woods? (They have the advantage of knowing the final coords of a multi or mystery cache though

The UK is 241,590 sq km in size, let's assume a cache takes up 0.1 sq km, allowing 10 in any one km grid square. That's 2,415,900 caches.

Take off the ones placed so far, you're left with 2,408,659

At a submission rate of 400/month, it will take another 500 years to cover the UK!

It seems to me that the rate of placement is doubling every year approximately.

If that's the case, the whole country will be covered in around 9 years

Luckily, we have worked on 10 caches per sq kilometre, but in fact, we could fit in 100 if they are placed 'neatly' so that would take an extra 3 years (assuming about 4.4m can't be placed as they are on water, in buildings etc).

We could, maybe factor in another year for caches that disappear in the meantime.

Cache Placement Rates, How do Ecks & Lacto find the time?

Well..... they've got nothing better to do, have they?:lol:

There is only one thing for it.

We must invade France before it's too late.

Yeah, yeah...... I'll go along with that.... It's been a couple of hundred years since we last beat 'em up. Well overdue for another bashing :D:D:lol:

Those stats are only for "geo" caches what about the "terra" and "navi" caches I know they are smaller sites in this country but they are bound to grow in size also. The only answer I can think of is to steal any caches you think are crap and replace them with virtuals. That will stop the country getting overloaded with tupperware and ammo tins :D:ph34r::lol:

They have brought back Virtuals, they still get approved. I think FoF has one around the new Scotish parliament or something like that.

Then there are Eart Caches, done one, still not sure about the idea.

Then there are times when a virtual would be far better but we are encouraged to do an ofset that ends in Lame micro (one of mine)

Cheers

I think it's 100 per square mile, so divide that by 2.6, not that it makes a lot of difference!

Doh, where's the little smiley that says 'really embarrassed'.

Tell me about this cache placement rate..... my objective on 1st January 2005 was to clear North Yorkshire of all live caches (by finding them not pinching them !) before 31st December 2005.

Even though I have found 44 caches since then (admitted not all in North Yorks) the net result is crossing 3 off the list ! I now have 61 to go.

So if the caches keep appearing at this rate it will be October 2006 before my objective is achieved !

Looks like some serious caching days.... pity most of the ones left are on top of hills (and I mean big hills !) so grabbing 20 in a day is not likely.

Firmly straps on tin hat and flack jacket and shouts

"BRING BACK THE VIRTUALS!!"

:D

If you just wait for another month or so you might be pleasantly surprised (if you like virtuals and locationless caches).

No details available yet but changes are afoot!

It's the new server/site... oh do spill the beans
