Jeremy Posted April 20, 2005 Posted April 20, 2005 It isn't a "game" but it is a solution for locationless caches. We still plan to have it ready by the end of May.
+Anonymous' Posted April 20, 2005 Posted April 20, 2005 I don't like locationless cache much, but I love surprises! I'm so excited!!!
Jeremy Posted April 20, 2005 Posted April 20, 2005 I don't like them much either... ..in their present form.
+sbell111 Posted April 20, 2005 Posted April 20, 2005 (edited) I like them fine. My problem with them is that they are difficult to organize in their present form. I'm sure this will be addressed in the new plan. If they are not part of a game, are we still allowed to have fun? Edited April 20, 2005 by sbell111
Jeremy Posted April 21, 2005 Posted April 21, 2005 If they are not part of a game, are we still allowed to have fun? I hope so. I also hope that the development for a solution for locationless caches wasn't a complete waste of time. We'll see. Also, to keep your expecatations low, the new solution will be 10 times worse than the current solution. If it is better than that you should count your blessings
WH Posted April 21, 2005 Posted April 21, 2005 Out of pure curiosity, will our cache couns drop by the number of LC's we've logged so far?
Jeremy Posted April 21, 2005 Posted April 21, 2005 Out of pure curiosity, will our cache couns drop by the number of LC's we've logged so far? No. Why would it do that?
+Rebel Posted April 21, 2005 Posted April 21, 2005 I notice that Jeremy didn't say what year this particular May will occur in. 05? 06? 3023?
WH Posted April 21, 2005 Posted April 21, 2005 Out of pure curiosity, will our cache couns drop by the number of LC's we've logged so far? No. Why would it do that? Just like benchmarks arent included in ones find count, I was just wondering if once LC's have their own area, they would no long be included in the cache count either.

On May 3rd, a container of goodies was hidden by a someone outside of Portland, Oregon - in celebration of the removing of Selective AvailabilityYa know, early May, say like May 3rd would be a really swell birthday present for me , um I mean geocachers all over, especially ones who like LC's.

Locationless caches were always counted. Travel Bugs aren't in the total "find" count either.

Will exsisting LC & virts stay as is or be incoporated into the new system? I know you may not want to tip things off just yet, but those were a couple of questions I think many may be interested in.
Jeremy Posted April 21, 2005 Posted April 21, 2005 I'm only speaking to the existing system and the fact that it will not change. Once the solution for locationless caches is launched we'll answer questions. Until then it would just be a string of questions that could be better explained in full at launch.

+KC0GRN Posted April 22, 2005 Posted April 22, 2005 Well all the same, thanks Jeremy for not changing the LC finds, I've enjoyed them as much as regular caches (sometimes even more than a park and grab regular) and was worried they might not count in the new system. Glad to hear that's not the case.
arbalo Posted April 27, 2005 Posted April 27, 2005 I don't like them much either... ..in their present form. Heehee I like them in their present form and hopefully in the future form. Geocaching is more than searching for tupper..............keep yr eyes / mind open
+halffast Posted May 7, 2005 Posted May 7, 2005 I am learning alot about my area of the world from the locationless caches.Things I take for granted that not every one can enjoy.Little things that might not matter to most people.I sure dont look at things the same way now.I cant wait until they are back so I can submit one myself.I am hoping I will be imformed when they are back..
+Bob Blaylock Posted May 9, 2005 Posted May 9, 2005 We still plan to have it ready by the end of May. Of what year?
+martinp13 Posted May 17, 2005 Posted May 17, 2005 It isn't a "game" but it is a solution for locationless caches. We still plan to have it ready by the end of May. Ok, we're into the homestretch of May... any closer? Would be nice to get some bugs worked out by Memorial Day weekend.
+Lil Devil Posted May 17, 2005 Posted May 17, 2005 Memorial Day is a few days short of the end of May.
Jeremy Posted May 17, 2005 Posted May 17, 2005 (edited) Although we have completed almost all of the functionality we have decided to hold off on the public release until June. Instead we plan to do some stress testing on the dev machine and run it by a smaller group of folks to provide some feedback to make sure we have a (more) solid release. We've done similar things in the past which has resulted in a better FAQ and general understanding of the project. So no, I'm not meeting the deadline. Who gets the steak? ju66l3r Posted May 17, 2005 Posted May 17, 2005 So no, I'm not meeting the deadline. Who gets the steak? I'm too full from the first 10...someone else is gonna have to eat this one. Just playin'.

+Stump Posted May 18, 2005 Posted May 18, 2005 It isn't a "game" but it is a solution for locationless caches. We still plan to have it ready by the end of May. Will everyone get access to it when it comes out or will premium members get to "test out new game concepts we're working on"? Thanks for the update Jeremy. I'd been wondering what had happend to the virtual/locationless update.

Can it be a swordfish steak? MMMmmm... Stump - I think they'll keep it behind closed doors, meaning Premies can't get in right away. They'll probably try to have the volunteer reviewers see if they can break it first. But I'm just guessing at that. /Homer: Mmmm... STEEEAAAakkkkk *garghhhhhhhhh*

STEEEAAAakkkkk *garghhhhhhhhh* Well, the "subscribe" page does list this as a premium member benefit: # The first to test out new game concepts we're working on. For example we gave members a first look at the benchmark hunting section before making it available to the rest of the community. I can't remember it happening recently, perhaps it's time? "premium member only" features don't count as "being the first to test out new concepts".
Jeremy Posted May 18, 2005 Posted May 18, 2005 Yes. The new functionality will only be available to Premium Members for a short amount of time. Some features will even be permanently for PM only.
