Flyin'SpiderFam
Most GeoCachers are quite the travelers, and know all of the best eating places "off the map".... so how about a new cache type? The icon could be a knife and fork crossed. This category would not include McDonalds, Taco Bell or even Red Lobster! We're talkin', "Mama's Corner Kitchen" and "Big Don's Burgers"... All those Mom and Pop greasy spoons with the BEST down-home cookin'! The person who logs the coordinates may suggest the item the place is most famous for, but otherwise the choice is up to every finder... who then has to log in what they had. America's "blue highways" are dotted with loads of the best food places for hungry travelers... so let's share where they are! Quote Link to comment
+Divine
While I understand your good intentions, I don't see this feature coming. First of all, that wouldn't be geocaching in any way. I mean, where's the cache? It's merely giving an address (or coordinates in this case) and telling people to go there. Secondly, that would bring a huge problem of commercialism and probably some people abusing the feature. Thirdly, who would draw the line which eating places would be included? I've never even heard of Red Lobster, why wouldn't that be on the list? The list of franchising restaurants is long and varies a lot in different countries. To separate the 'chain' restaurants from the rest is too vague and big a job for anyone. Why not just sticking to the good ol' recommend-an-eating-place-in-your-log type of activity, that has been successfully going on this far? Quote Link to comment
+team_malaglot
You know this is a fantastic idea! We could call it "GeoMunching" or some such name. I like this idea! Quote Link to comment
+the hermit crabs
We must be doing this wrong -- we're always so grubby after caching, all covered with mud and leaves and twigs and the occasional tick, that we never go into restaurants afterward. Our "geoEating" usually consists of snacking out of a bag containing some carrots, nuts, apples, and cheese. Doesn't make for an exciting log entry Quote Link to comment
+Isonzo Karst
On the grubby side - one of the regulars at FGA site has a sign line that reads "if you've been geocaching and can still eat in a restaurant, you haven't done one of my caches" Closer to the OP's idea, there are 2 series in FL that are essentially recommend this restaurant series: "Barbequed *insert town name*" and "Tastes Like Chicken *insert town name*" IK mostly eats vegetarian so these are just caches to us, but the idea is there Quote Link to comment
Colonel Mustard
There's already a restaurant near Harrisburg, PA called Geo's. Guess they'd have a leg up. Quote Link to comment

Been there, doing that, and we are even working on a T-shirt. No need to change our PDX GeoMunch from anything but the event cache that it is. Quote Link to comment
mufasa1023
I was thinking the near same thing last night about listing restaurants last night but I see exactly where Divine is coming from. Next thing you know we'll all be b#@$hing about some guy who marked the walmart food court as a recommended restarurant. p.s. Red Lobster is a seafood joint and its only edible food is its biscuits (IMHO) Quote Link to comment
+sTeamTraen
There's already a locationless cache for old-style diners (and Mom&Pop motels, for later in the day). Since that requires a GPSr to log, I presume a large number of finds on it are related to a day's caching trip. So check the logs on that (sorry, don't have the details handy) for some eating ideas. +Kit Fox
In Southern California, there are "Del Taco" and "Krispy Creme" Caches. I haven't done found any off them yet, but I understand they are mostly micros, near a restaurant or donut shop. Quote Link to comment
Jeremy
I can't confirm this, but the solution to Locationless Caches may or may not accomodate this idea. We're still looking good for an end of May release. Quote Link to comment
+clearpath
I've never even heard of Red Lobster ... Dude, you gotta get out of the house more often (err, I mean you gotta get over to the States more often). Red Lobster is the most over priced fast food joint on the planet. Plus living in K.C. we are about as far from an ocean as you can get so I'm leary about eating any seafood in this area ... Quote Link to comment

YouKnowMe
Yeah, anything for an easy "find" to get those numbers up hey? Sheesh. Quote Link to comment

Why do those exist in great numbers in California, but I can't get a similar cache like that approved in Oregon on the property of a small, independent coffeehouse? Just a rhetorical question... don't wanna start a flamewar... Edited April 18, 2005 by Sparrowhawk Quote Link to comment

+caderoux
We have a rule here in New Orleans where logs must be accompanied by descriptions of eating either before or after doing the cache. Quote Link to comment
Flyin'SpiderFam
Being fairly new to GeoCaching, I wasn't aware of some of the options y'all mentioned, but I'm going to check them out! (virtuals, locationless, added into the logs, etc.) GeoDining.com is exactly !! what I was talking about! Thank you for the link! There's a whole great big world out there... I can't wait to find the coordinates to it! Thank you everyone! ps - I can't believe how this sport is expanding so rapidly! What fun! Quote Link to comment
+BeachBuddies
This one visits some of the great bars and restaurants in Nags Head, NC. We had a lot of fun doing it. Quote Link to comment

+mantis7
I really like the idea of the geodining.com..... It is nice to be able to get some recommendations of restaurants in areas you aren't familiar with. Too bad more people don't use the site. Quote Link to comment

Plus living in K.C. we are about as far from an ocean as you can get so I'm leary about eating any seafood in this area ... We had a red lobster about a mile from me that went out of bussiness along with the olive garden on the same day (They are owned by the same company) 90% of the seafood in the Red Lobster was deep fried, what a joke. Deep fried sea food, no thanks, and one of the waiters that I knew form the Olive Garded told me the kitchen was nothing but a bunch of micro waves with frozen dinners. The good thing about living in the San francisco bay area is that there are lots of good seafood and Italian rest, to choose from, that's why the bozo operations by me closed down. I just saw a TV add for Red Lobsters shimp scampi, It's deep fried!!!!!!!!!!!!! Quote Link to comment

Yep, we were in San Fran last spring and the food there was excellent. Not only was the seafood great, but I tried some noodles (oriental) that were awesome. It's a great place to eat cause all the walking up and down the hills burns off the extra calories ... Quote Link to comment
