Whats On Your 1st Page

Recommended Posts

It strikes me that after scoring your first 100 caches, that your 20 nearest unvisitied caches starts getting interesting, either all these caches are very far away, or there are specific reasons for them being unvisited.

Heres a summary of my 1st page

Nearest cache

5.7m Dee Bore Earthcache (Cheshire/Flintshire) - This cache can only be done satisfactorary during a dozen or two days a year, dont bother trying again until Autumn

Furthest cache

19.5m No more boats -No special reason for this being there

Total Difficulty :- 35

Total Terrain :- 37

Others worth mentioning

<EDIT>

St George's Day Meet - Nearly forgot this one, its an event cache, cant do until next weekend.

</EDIT>

Edclusham Mountain Got a DNF on this one, but it was recently visited so I plan on trying again real soon

Warren Dee Wind Farm My cursed cache!, got a DNF on it due to lack of a boat, then it got disabled, then reinabled, then disabled again.... get the picture!

Dog Gawn Mystery Cache - disabled

"Bodiceas Grave" - left until weather is good and Jill is on her feet properly again, we find this site quite interesting and would like to do it justice.

Fables, Myths & Legends ... King Arthur's View - last in a series that hasnt come high enough on my todo list

there are 5 more that are down on a trip we tried earier this year but aborted and not got around to doing the tip again, and three that are North of the Mersey that we are planning to merge into a trip sometime to justify the trouble of trolling through the Mersey tunnel and across Liverpool.

I won't name caches to save any embarrassment but mine looks like this.

1) 3.8 miles NE - only been placed for about 2 weeks, not had time yet.

2) 4 miles south Placed by school children as a project, know the area well, used to work nearby, not 'drawn' to it.

3 and 4) Same as above

5) 4.1 miles east (at least that's the start) long and complicated multi that ranges over much of East London. Will tackle it one day, but too many forest caches to be cleared.

6) 4.5 miles east - DNF, must go back

7) 4.7 miles same as above

8 )4.8 miles same as above

9) and 10) about 5 miles, placed by same cacher as 6,7,8 gave up after all the other DNFs, but will be returning, I will not be beaten,

11) 5.4 miles - fairly new and just haven't been in that direction for a while, got all the older ones in that area.

12 )5.5 miles another DNF set by the guy who set 6 - 10

13) as 12

14) I'm frightened of the big guard dog at the start of the footpath. Going to attack it (the cache)from the other end of the path, but got lost in the complex of locks and gravel pits last time and couldn't find the path.

15) 16) and 17) fairly new caches in areas that I have already got lots of caches and just haven't gone back to areas that I have already visited to bag the newer ones. But as the evenings get lighter now I can feel a few local cache dashes coming on.

18 19 and 20 - the caches have been there for ages, just haven't gone caching in that direction from my house yet. I keep heading North and East out of London. If I do go west I seem to skip over the local ones and head about 25 miles or more away.

Variety of reasons why some caches are on my first page

1. My daughters cache, really must get around to doing this sometime

3. Newsish in an area that I have pretty much cleared 8.4 miles but in reality much further

4. Went to the area didnt want to leave my car, will borrow the bosses sometime

10. Not keen on the area

11. newish will do when in the area

12. Worsley in an area where a previous cache got archived dur to the items found in the area.

the list goes on but mostly because I have cleared the rest of the caches in that area and dont want to drive 20 plus miles just for one cache.

Cheers

I DO! (hate shopping centres, shopping, crowded places etc)

OK... so I'm not a typical woman and I'm happy to be that way!

As for the "probablys" - I like to keep my options open :o . The last couple of caches I've done have been in Hertfordshire where I spent a few days over the Easter holidays. Not to mention the fact that now I'm working, there's very little time in which to do any caching at all.

I'm saving the whole of the Kennet & Avon canal series for a monster caching/cycling day out in August, when hubby can come with me and we can bag at least 24 caches in a day.

Anyway... isn't it about time you finished all those caches in N Yorkshire! B)

Mine range from 1.5 miles to 16.2 miles.

The nearest is a new multi which I'll be doing pretty soon.

One can only be done on a few days in the year.

Another is the UK Travel Bug Retirement cache, which has no physical existence.

Two are temporarily disabled.

The others are just ones I haven't got round to yet.

Hmmm - not alot to judge on mine - 18 that I've not had a chance to do just yet, most of them are caches that have been there since day 1, and have moved onto page one as I've done nearer caches, however it is very clear that I'm not doing 'local ones first'.

13 traditionals

7 multi's

Apart from a 4/5 there are a couple of 3/3's and the rest are easier - none have any mystical level of challenge to them and the distances range from 3.7 miles to 7.1 miles.

There's one that I've not yet found despite several attempts. (trad 4/5)

There's one that I arrived at, glanced around the deserted car park (except for the burnt out car) and decided that I'd rather have muggles to deal with than a walk home. Also traditional.

It's just time and getting around to doing them. Looking at some of the 'nearest' distances of the rest of you it's clear that I have it good still.

Having moved house a few months back, we have an all new list of very close caches. We've been doing caches further afield, and saving the close ones for nice evening walks. These are marked ECT (Evening Caching Trip).

1. 2.5mi We placed this as part of an international exchange.

2. 3.3mi ECT

3. 4.2mi ECT

4. 4.5mi We placed this as part of an international exchange.

5. 5.2mi A multi - saving this for later.

6. 5.5mi We were put off by a field full of cows last time. Will be back.

7. 5.7mi Found a cache in the same park a few days before it went live - therefore waiting a while.

8. 6.2mi ECT

9. 6.3mi ECT

10. 6.6mi Ran out of time last time - now saving for an ECT

11. 6.6mi Don't even recall reading the sheet for this one!

12. 6.8mi ECT

13. 7.1mi ECT

14. 7.4mi Muggles making out last time. Also need someone tall/light with us.

15. 8.9mi Multi with wet parts. Waiting for a day out.

16. 9.5mi Out of time last time we passed. Will be back.

17. 9.6mi No reason - just haven't got round to it.

18. 9.8mi No reason - just haven't got round to it.

19. 10mi Out of time last time we passed. Will be back.

20. 10.1mi Multi - Waiting for a day out.

We're not really putting off any of them, nor intending to avoid them (apart from the ones we placed!) It's just a matter of having enough time, I guess.

Cheers,

Stu

Well most caches on my first page are miles away.... Not too many caches left round here in West Wales.

1) - 18miles North - Have been meaning to do this one for a while - Haven't done it yet because theres no others near it that I haven't found

2-8) All around 25 miles North - a series of letterbox caches - waiting to get a stamp before doing these!

The rest are between 34 and 41 miles away (mainly south) and will all be done in the goodness of time!!!! (depending on petrol prices) :(

Interesting topic.

I have just looked at mine. Nearest unfound 1.3 miles away and furthest is 4.9 miles. Of these, 7 are new and I have not had a chance to do them yet. 1 is actually one of mine, jointly owned with Bekandian, and as it is against their profile, it always shows up on my searches (arrgh! why can't we have proper joint ownership?). 1 further cache is temporarily disabled, and another 1 is a puzzle which I have just got the clues for, but have not had a chance to grab the cache yet.

That leaves 10. I have no objections of any of these, and have not been avoiding them, I just have not got round to doing them yet. I think I am saving them for when I only have time for a local quickie. If I plan a caching trip, I tend to go for a cluster further afield. I will do them all in the end. I like to wipe out blue dots on my interactive map! :(

If you're a premium member, you can stick it in your ignore list. That's what we've done with the exchange caches we did. They show up on the 'all nearest caches' but not 'nearest unfound'. Handy, really.

Update:

While chasing 400 caches before the end of the month, I've ticked off a few more local ones:

SE 1.1mi - A tricky puzzle that scares me. It's also a bit further away than it seems. I plan to do it this month. Promise.

Did it with two visits. It's a pig.

NW 4.2mi - Puzzle I've not done all the parts of to find it.

Still waiting

E 4.5mi - Big evil puzzle, that I've been saving for my 400th.

It's been ages since it was last found so maybe I'll make it my 500th

SW 5.4mi - Multi I've just not got around to.

Tried to do it but ran out of time. I will return!

E 5.7mi - Map-based puzzle/multi that I've just never had the time to do.

Still waiting for a visit to this area

SW 5.7mi - Multi that can be wet in damp weather. Waiting for a sunny spell. Maybe one to do with a friend, as I know the area and it's nice and romantic :(

Skipped taking a friend because it was sunny. Cache had been muggled but I was there when it was replaced and signed the log then.

SW 5.8mi - Another puzzle I've not got around to. Note to self: Pull finger out.

Finger successfully pulled out! Slight problem when I walked off with the second micro, but these things can happen...

SE 6mi - A new one, in an area I've not visited. Firmly on my to do list.

My 400th - and a nice one to do it on.

E 6.3mi - A puzzle that's actually a fair bit further away.

It's still quite a bit further away.

NE 6.5mi - Another to grab on the way past.

I've not been past yet

NW 7.7mi - A new one.

A done one. A bit too easy in a spot I'd not visit except to grab a number there.

NE 8.4mi - Just another one that waiting for me to find the time/be in the area/have my GPSr/and notes...

Nowt's changed.

E 8.7mi - A puzzle waiting for a TB to pass me by B)

It's a long way noth at the moment.

W 9.1mi - Another to do when I'm bored. I've not heard great things about it though

As above

W 9.1mi - A puzzle that's just not drawn me too it.

As above

N 9.2mi - Shouldn't be hard, but I've just not been to the village while in possession of my GPS and a printout.

Aha

W 9.6mi - Another one that hasn't drawn me to it. Dull cache page perhaps?

Still not found

NE 9.7mi - Not been to the town in about 5 years(!)

Still not found

NE 9.7mi - See above.

Still not found

SE 9.8mi - Needs a page of photos printing off, and my printer's been a bit funny.

Still not found

The moral of this story is... That not every story has a moral.

I guess its up to you really, the first page of unfound caches nearest home kind-of defines what Im going to do next, if a pile of caches in a certain area come high on this page then I go off in that direction, and maybe pick up a few more in that area whilst Im out there, If a new cache appears on the first page then Im out to get the FTF, OTOH some caches have been working their way up the page and Ive been ignoring them.

I dare say that for anyone with in excess of 1000 caches, this page may be just a list of disabled caches.

In some ways, the caches people have not done is more revealing about a persons preferences than those they have done, espcially if they drive 50-100 miles to grab a dozen caches, yet are ignoring some right on their doorstep.

No wonder I'm stuck on a measly 172 caches! And what's the chance of a FTF outside the island? Zilch! :D:lol:

Sounds like we need to start Cache Aid, everyone could club together and post their unwanted Caches off to the Isle of Man.
