Tikishark Posted April 16, 2005 Posted April 16, 2005 Okay, I received my new Explorist 600 from REI yesterday. I thought I'd share a few photos for the curious.... http://www.imagerack.net/is.php?i=857&img=GPS_001.jpg http://www.imagerack.net/is.php?i=858&img=GPS_002.jpg http://www.imagerack.net/is.php?i=859&img=GPS_003.jpg http://www.imagerack.net/is.php?i=860&img=GPS_004.jpg Things I like so far: Clear Screen Menus are easy to follow Initial setup was a breeze Great signal Easy Cache transfer Easy Charging Overall Solid product Things that aren't so great: The manual that is included is for the Explorist 300 Magellan’s registration website doesn’t recognize new serial number sequence (No way to register currently). My Explorist arrived with a sticky film covering my AC adapter and USB cable (I think it was from the glue in the box). Quote
+GeoCraig Posted April 16, 2005 Posted April 16, 2005 My 500 came yesterday. I think I'm going to like it once I get use to it. Mine didn't come with the main manuall--only a quick start. Re the serial number--delete the leading 0 and the final number and give it a try. Quote

Re the serial number--delete the leading 0 and the final number and give it a try. Thanks for the advice, unfortunately nothing I do allows me to register... The website keeps stating that I need to use a 0118 before my 9 digits... However, the 600's serial starts with 0119... These are the things that frustrate me about Magellan... If I can't register, I can't use my Mapsend program... Not that I'm complaining (Much ) but shouldn't they have fixed a lot of these bugs (like a real 600 manual, registration information, etc.) before they sent them out to market? Quote

That's the thing about buying any electronic device as soon as it comes out. Generally, there are lots of bugs that manufacturers were too lazy to catch, or just didn't catch. You guys are esentially being the guinea pigs, so that when I buy my Xplorist in a couple months, most of the stuff will be resolved... Quote
+embra Posted April 17, 2005 Posted April 17, 2005 (edited) If I can't register, I can't use my Mapsend program. I think you should be able to enter the internal serial number (from the "About" screen) without having to register with Magellan's web site. AFAIK there's no essential need to register with Magellan except perhaps for some of the marine mapping programs that require unlock codes. Edit: The dawning light tells me that maybe you have BlueNav. That would indeed be a problem. Edited April 17, 2005 by embra Quote
