+WSGA Posted April 14, 2005 Posted April 14, 2005 WSGA - Summer Campout 2005 The event page is up! Geocachers from all over Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, British Columbia, or anywhere else for that matter are invited to join us on the Weekend of August 19th for what we hope will be a very fun campout. We will have a potluck picnic on Saturday. The WSGA will provide hamburgers and hotdogs, as well as a beverage. We'll post more details as we have them. Quote
Moun10Bike Posted April 14, 2005 Posted April 14, 2005 We will have a potluck picnic on Saturday. The WSGA will provide hamburgers and hotdogs, as well as a beverage. Just a note that hamburgers, hotdogs and beverages will only be available to those who are camping; day visitors will need to provide their own. Should be a blast! Quote
+WSGA Posted April 14, 2005 Author Posted April 14, 2005 I should also add that the Park does not consider Tent Trailers to be an RV unless they are abnormally large. Those of you with Tent Trailers can pay the Tent Camping rates. Quote

Actually, we determined that those not camping may also want one of the pins and dinner, so we added a $5.00 per person optional charge for those day use people that want to get a pin and enjoy hamburgers and hotdogs with the rest of us. We still encourage everyone coming to the Potluck to bring a dish to share. Otherwise it wouldn't be a Potluck Quote
+GeoDiver/GeoGrammy Posted April 14, 2005 Posted April 14, 2005 Did anyone tell Moun10Bike about this rule that I excepted from the Squilchuck State Park Webpage?? Rule: "Mountain biking is not allowed in the lodge..."???? Quote
Moun10Bike Posted April 14, 2005 Posted April 14, 2005 Rule: "Mountain biking is not allowed in the lodge..."???? What the...? That's an outrage! You've got to wonder what happened in the past that led to that rule! Quote

Rule: "Mountain biking is not allowed in the lodge..."???? That is probably why we didn't rent the Lodge .... That and the fact that it's quite some distance from the Group Camp. Quote

You've got to wonder what happened in the past that led to that rule! Maybe no mountain biking in the lodge but nearby between the Beehive area and Cashmere is a great Mt Biking trail called Devil's Gulch. Very popular Mt biking area. Several caches near the trail too. Journey to the "C", Free Parking, and The Master's Touch Quote
+Allanon Posted April 16, 2005 Posted April 16, 2005 So...is anyone interested in me bringing my telescope? 8" Celestron, the old orange tube model. If there is enough interest, I have no problem with bringing it, setting it up and doing a 'star party'...if there are only a few people interested or none at all, I'll leave it at home. Talk amongst yourselves... Quote

Journey to the "C", Free Parking, and The Master's Touch In that same area, here's a challenge for Moun10bike, and other mountain bikers:Devil's Mission. It's been active almost 3 years and only 3 finders. Last finder was June 2003. If I was a mountain bike enthusiast I'd go after it. It looks like a 4 mile hike/bike from the Liberty Beehive road, or a 6 mile hike/bike from the Mission Creek road out of Cashmere. Those miles are one-way. That's 8 miles and 12 miles RT, respectively. The trailhead to Devil's Gulch (on the Mission Creek Road) is only 1/4 mile from this cache: Free Parking. Edited April 16, 2005 by The Navigatorz Quote

I have maps and GPS data for it on my trail maps page. A Sunday mountain bike excursion might be a fun event! If other people are interested. we could possibly even do a car shuttle to cut out the 11 miles of dirt road climbing. I'd love to go for the Devil's Mission cache! Quote
+Patudles Posted April 18, 2005 Posted April 18, 2005 There's no way I would go on that ride so I will volunteer to act as a shuttle for the group that wants to do it. Quote
+xy,xx,xy,xy,xy,xy Posted April 18, 2005 Posted April 18, 2005 I usually do that ride a couple of times a year. I'm game! Quote

+Right Wing Wacko Posted May 2, 2005 Posted May 2, 2005 It is now possible to make Reservations Online with Paypal. If you do not have a paypal account that is fine... paypal now accepts Credit Card Payments without the need to create a Paypal account. There is a link on the Event Page, or you can go to: Make Reservations Now I'll also see if we can get a link added to the WSGA Web page shortly. Quote
+hydnsek Posted May 7, 2005 Posted May 7, 2005 (edited) Thanks for arranging, RWW, hope I can make it. Just sent my PayPal for a campsite, or I can easily share with someone else. Should be an interesting weekend for me - I'm competing in the Western States Orienteering Champs in Cle Elum also on Saturday and Sunday, so I will be running between the two. Hopefully the camping will work out; if not, I'll be a walk-in Saturday afternoon. While the locations are close geographically, driving between them may pose logistical problems if I have early start times. If anyone wants to try orienteering recreationally, or just wants to eyeball it, this meet in Cle Elum would be a great one! There's an event both Saturday and Sunday mornings (Teanaway Forks, Cle Elum Ridge), sponsored by the Seattle and Portland O' clubs. Non-competitive beginner levels are open to the public, including families, and both terrain and navigation are easy. On-site registration, $10/adult, $5/kid. Only takes a couple hours to do a course, and then you could resume your normal geocaching routine. There's also a one-day Adventure Race on Monday Aug. 22. Email me if you want more details. (This is part of a weeklong Pacific Northwest O' Festival that continues down in Bend around Mt Bachelor; I'll be pooped by Aug. 28!) Edited May 7, 2005 by hydnsek Quote
+KickBassMama Posted May 12, 2005 Posted May 12, 2005 GeoColorado and I are VERY excited to meet you all!! See you then!! Quote

Well since you mention it................................. I actually just got home from the Champoeg event in Portland. Now I can't even touch what fractal/soup put together, but I did have a bit of fun with the kids. If there is enough interest I could duplicate that for the WSGA campout. Quote

And what about all the other 'camp essentials'? should we try to organize that or just let everyone bring everything? 17 days and counting. Edited August 2, 2005 by Allanon Quote

+Ambrosia Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 Ok, here's the question: We want to make things a little cheaper. We have 4 people coming just for the day thingy. We only need one pin, and 3 of us are not going to eat the provided meat items. Is there any way to pro-rate the cost in light of these things? Thanks. Quote

For those of us that are day tripping, can we buy into the lunch or should we just bring our own? Yes! If you look at the Reservation Form you will see a $5.00 (Members) reservation for "Day Use". That $5.00 pays for your Campout Pin and Dinner. If you don't want a pin and provide your own food for dinner, you don't need to pay us the $5.00..... (You still have to pay for your own parking). The pin, dinner, etc is already included for those paying to camp. Edited August 3, 2005 by Right Wing Wacko Quote

Do you want to know numbers of bodies, though? I think the website only takes into account paying persons. Quote
Team Misguided Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 Just an update for the kids event. It will be a pirate theme, if you have any pirate gear please bring it. I'll have some but any extra will be appreciated so we can make sure every kid has something. Quote

Last year there was a wide enough variety and enough quantities of the same thing (but with great variations) that hardly anything went to waste. (Unless my memory is having an access error.) If you're camping, bring that which you will use. Consider this to be a loosely organized free for all. Quote

I see you have yet to learn fear is not a bad thing. Actually, as loosley organized as it was last year, this is not a bad position to be in. Remember, you don't have to control how a cache is found, just so long as it is found. Quote
+TotemLake Posted August 5, 2005 Posted August 5, 2005 (edited) If you're talking about the Hydnsek's issue, you can directly chat with her on payment. If you're talking about the day visits, then you can pay as you come in. You can catch up with one of us WSGA officers and we'll make sure you get taken care of. Fwiw, I plan on being there bright and... well not too early, but I'll be there at least before lunch on Friday so I can hopefully catch up with Ranger Mike and go over their expectations. I'll try to have some tags made up to help make it easier to ID us on Friday and Saturday. Edited August 5, 2005 by TotemLake Quote

I don't anticipate that we will run out of pins, but one never knows for sure until it happens. We ordered what we think should be plenty. Unless we have a huge walk in crowd, we should have plenty to spare. Obviously pre-registrations will receive priority over late comers should our estimates prove to be wrong. It's not the pins that worry me. We really want to suggest pre-registration so we know how much food and beverages to buy. Wenatchee is not that far away should we need to go get more, but I would prefer that we get enough the first time We certainly will not be turning anyone away that shows up at the park. Quote

Well we posted as will attend in the cache page. My husband is probably the only one who will eat the meat provided, the other three of us can bring our own fillings. But I assume that you guys will be providing the buns and stuff? All three of us will be needing that. And then we only need one pin. Guess that's that. We are really looking forward to the weekend. As of right now and subject to change, campfires are allowed. They may restrict it to the main fire circle of the group camp. I do not know if any will be available on site, and even it is, it's usually a lot more expensive that I like to pay for it. It would be great if someone that had a supply could bring some. Quote
