Slight Strangeness In Ngs Datasheets' Setting Info

I was looking at some NGS datasheets and found an odd data-retrieval formatting problem among them. I will use HV1326 as an example.

When using the NGS PID Retrieval page, one gets:

HV1326_MARKER: DD = SURVEY DISK

HV1326_SETTING: 36 = SET IN A MASSIVE STRUCTURE

HV1326_SP_SET: BRIDGE HEADWALL

HV1326_STAMPING: 319

but when using the NGS Yearly Archive page, one gets:

HV1326_MARKER: DD = SURVEY DISK

HV1326_SETTING: 36 = BRIDGE HEADWALL

HV1326_STAMPING: 319

(I included the _MARKER and _SETTING items just to show the context.)

The Geocaching site has:

Marker Type: survey disk

Setting: massive structures

The NGS Annex P, or D-File, or as I call it the Hippopotamus File defines Setting 36 as: Massive structures (other than listed below).

I was wondering why I hadn't previously noticed what a good item SPECIFIC SETTING (given as _SP_SET) was, and then figured out that it isn't in the Geocaching sheets at all, and in the Yearly Archives, which I'd been downloading recently, it is mixed up with the SETTING code, fortunately getting the more specific information.

This info was passed along to the correct person. Here is the response:

There are two pieces of text in the database

associated with a mark's setting.

One is the standard text associated with the

setting code and the other is a 'Specific' setting text

Before 3/11/05 the standard text was overwritten by

the 'Specific' setting text if 'Specific' text

was available'

After 3/11/05 the two peices of text were

separated.

I forgot to update the

'Last change to datasheet format was made on mm/dd/yy'

link on the datasheet page, which I will do now.

So, it looks like you found a quirk/error. Thanks for pointing it out, and it should be working again soon.

p.s. It is really nice to see this forum working. Thanks everyone.
