CITO 2005: Photos Photos Photos

On March, 17, the portuguese geocacher community had its 2nd ever CITO event, on the Arrábida park, near the Cave of Santa Margarida cache. The place is private property but it's been open to the public for years now, which has caused it to be vandalized and filled with all sorts of garbage: cans, bottles, old clothes, matresses...

Most of us spent the whole morning searching for the infamous Six Feet Under geocache. The lunch didn't go as planned because we had to deal with some car problems, so there were a couple of unwanted clouds over us we're simply not used to. The cleaning up began about 4PM and we rocked, we simply turned the place over and did a hell of a cleaning job.

A brief look on how it looked like before. It sure could use some cleaning.

It's a dirty job, but someone's got to do it.

The outside, facing the ocean, also needed some care.

This is the result of our hard work!

The South Jersey Geocachers had the SJG CITO that was put together by us (Flyin V) on 16 April 2005. This was held in the Wharton State Forest (an 110,000 acre tract of land) in conjuction with the Rangers.

The SJG CITO event yielded two full dumptruck loads of trash, and any more piles which were gathered and later removed by specialized removal crews after the event! Over 35 cachers attended the CITO and after working for over 3 hours, we all then met-up for lunch at the usual post-caching joint: The Pic-A-Lilli. Well done!!

(GCQZ72) WATERTOWN TRAIL REBLAZE

Saturday, November 5th, Watertown, CT

Reclaiming the trail on Land Trust Property! This trail was soo under-used, and un-inviting. BBLHED obtained permission from the Land Trust to place a cache, saw the need for an inviting trail, the Land Trust agreed with enthusiam, and his CITO event was born!

For once, a happy tale of:

Land Trust + Geocachers = :D

SEPAG was back for round two at Cobbs Creek Park in Philadelphia, PA. We've been clearing out an overgrown embankment that looks into the park. To date we've removed two and half tons of vegetation and trash and cleared an area 45'x400'. Some of us even got a chance to use our machettes.

This time we cleared an area 45' x 200':

Fifty, 50pd bags of trash - 2500pds

1000 pounds of concrete scrap

1000 pounds of brush

Some of the more interesting finds included an SUV, a womans purse with ID, a toilet, tires, car parts & tires, and quite a few pairs of Timberland boots.

Yes, its a toilet.

We found this SUV a few hundred feet along the main trail

One of the many Timberland boots we found.
