May I suggest that you find a few more caches before you hide one. There is no hard and fast rule but you should get a good feel for the game before you start looking for your own hiding spot. Give yourself a chance to get some perspective on what makes or doesn't make a good hide.

I hid a cache after only finding one cache. I hadn't learned how my gps works best yet. It takes awhile. A very nice cacher named Quad spent 45 minutes looking for my cache and then sent me the correct coordinates.

Taking a little time before you hide one isn't a bad idea. But trust me, I love guys who get into this and want to be hiders. They make the hobby great.

We are also brand new to GeoCaching. We decided to wait for ten finds before hiding our first. The caches we have found has given us a few ideas about placement and we definately have a good feel for our GPSr now. We hit nine finds yesterday out of eleven tries so we're going to place our cache this weekend icon_smile.gif . We are very excited!

Don't feel too bad. The week of Memorial Day I "conveniently" was ill so I could stay home and catch up on reading and researching of caches and other waypoints of other games I am in. Printing maps and stuff like that. By the time I was healthy enough to go back to work I had a ton of prepared stuff for geo-caching and did not want to go to work!

Hello, since I am also just getting started, and am in the same neighborhood (Pittsburgh) I thought I would wave hello!

My daughter & I logged our first cache without a GPSr last weekend. Today the Garmin V arrived by FedEx. So what are the odds that I will be too sick to go to work one day this week? icon_wink.gif

(Always trade UP in both quantity and quality and Geocaches will be both self-sustaining and self-improving!)
