FisherBear
Aside from the dead animals and rusty old cans we've mostly come across porn. Example One: At Loo With A View we were at the starting point at the bottom of the mountain. There was an outhouse at the trailhead. Inside was a magazine rack with some porn. Not wanting to ruin the "fun" for whoever left it there, we left it and continued on our way. On the trail we ran into only 3 people. An old man and a mid-forties couple. After reaching the cabin at the top of the mountain and coming back down, we read the hikers log at the trailhead. Apparently the couple wanted to "get busy" in the cabin but there were too many people. Upon checking up on the outhouse porn, it was gone.... Example Two: At a book exchange cache we found propped up against a log, a ratty old mattress, a million used condoms and shredded up porn. Unfortunately the cache was located under said log. After poking the cache out with a stick we opened it up to find ripped up porn inside the cache. At least they traded.....the cache has since been moved. Quote Link to comment
LaughingTerry
It never ceases to amaze me what people will drag into the woods. One day about 200 feet into some woods I came upon a section of an aluminum extension ladder. I was going to drag it out on the way back but the multi took me back a different way and I just had my Subaru anyway. Another time I found snow shovel about 10 feet from a cache. I carried it back out and dumped it in a trash barrell. Quote Link to comment
Shrink
3 episodes of unusual occurrences: The first in Soda stash cache, Tampa, I was walking up the trail and I could smell the sweet smell of burning "wood". Then there appeared 2 youths smoking dope on a bench at the end of the trail. They had not realised the wind was blowing their smoke straight down the trail, and everyone could smell it and see them a mile off. One bolted for the exit, dropping something and shouting, "I promise I wont do it again". I shouted back " You're busted" and proceeded along looking for the geocache. I didn't see them again. Second episode was the sighting and photographing of a bobcat on the trail in a 600 acre park in Tampa: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/log.aspx?LU...13-37da69e05257 Unfortunately, I thought it was a panther, because of its size. 3rd strange occurrence:Finally after wandering through a large graveyard in the middle of Tokyo, on my second day in Japan, I found the cache in an interesting multicache, At Rest At His Master’s Feet. As I was signing the log, sitting on the edge of a grave, I was approached by an american man, who asked what I was doing. I explained about geocaching, and he was polite in his interest. He thought I had a relative buried in the graveyard, as I was sitting in the foreigners area. We got into a discussion about how the japanese were trying to disinter the foreigners, and move them out of the cemetry. He was organising a protest against this. He was accompanied by his Japanese girlfriend. He said he knew where all the foreigners in the graveyard were buried except one family, the Irwins. To his total astonishment, I told him I knew where they were! He was totally dumbfounded as to how I, who had been in the cemetry less than 1 hour, could have found them, when he had asked and searched all over the graveyard for months. Actually I had passed a group of celtic crosses, on the path to the cache, and as I was born and raised in Ireland, and had thought it so unusual to see these crosses in a japanese graveyard, I had checked who they were and how they got to be there. I brought him to the grave site and he was very appreciative. 5 days later, this nice Japanese lady introduced herself to me in a store in the middle of Tokyo. I had no idea who she was, until my sister in law remembered my story and realised she was the girlfriend of the man looking for the graves. I am glad I had related the story when I got home or I would have had a lot of explaining to do to my wife about what I was doing "geocaching". Quote Link to comment
Team Red Oak
We are new to Geocaching and on Memorial Day we did our first Multi in a city park with a woodsy area. On a fallen log in front of the 3rd stage my husband noticed some wires hanging about. He looked closer and found 2 illegal animal snares meant to strangle what ever would get caught in them. Luckily there was nothing in either of the snares, but with a little bit of effort he got the snares off the log and on our way to the car threw the snares in a dumpster. Quote Link to comment

Team Ogre
Geez, half the stuff you guys have listed probably would have completely freaked me out. Weirdest thing I ever found was like a foot from the actual cache - a dead cat partially wrapped in a towel. Looked pretty fresh too. Fortunately there was a cop parked on the street pretty close by so he called Animal Control to have them remove it. Was almost worried he'd think we put it there, but he never questioned us or anything. Quote Link to comment
Anonymous'
I was hunting for a cache on a popular island in the San Juans when I came across deer bones. This doesn't sound that weird but someone arranged the bones in a strange way. Also nearby were some strange devices made out of things found in the woods. I'm being a little vague, but it wasn't something I really wanted to remember. I never found the cache, but it turns out it was stolen. Quote Link to comment

Team Dromomania
My wife and I were about a mile or two into a hike to a cache in a wooden area when we came across this: It had markers at N, S, E, and W and also had a bunch of coins in the center area. It looked like it had been there for a while. Is this one of those "witches circles" I've heard about? On reflection I wonder if it might be some sort of Indian circle (there are several Indian tribes in this area). BTW, I have no idea what the area had been used for but I took the coins. Is this one of those "witches circles" I've heard about? On reflection I wonder if it might be some sort of Indian circle (there are several Indian tribes in this area). From the description and pictures, it does look like some kind of ritual circle. Impossible to tell exactly from practitionners of which religion, though. Circles, markers for the cardinal points and ritual offering, all near a tree... elements common to many religions. Could be Wiccans, other Neo-Pagans, Natives... or even teenagers who have watched "The Craft" and similar movies too many times. BTW, I have no idea what the area had been used for but I took the coins. Did you really? Well, personally I wouldn't take offerings left for the gods. But if you really needed it, I`m sure they`ll understand... after all, gods have very few expenses, so they can spare the money Well, the gods will understand, the humans who left the offering there might have been less amused if they had seen you do that. Yes, they just left money lying there in the woods. But we leave geocaches lying around in the woods and we'd rather peple didn't take them either. Maybe they needed to put a note like we do for geocaches: "You found it! This is an offering, please do not remove it unless you are the deity for which it was meant". Quote Link to comment
Team Dromomania
I think there's a bit of a difference between a camo/hidden cache and coins left open on the ground next to a trail. Granted, the circle was unusual and I'm sure the person/people who left the coins had their reasons for doing so. I'm also sure they were aware that anybody walking down that trail would see the circle and coins. In fact, I'd be very surprised that they wouldn't expect the coins to get picked up by hikers. Besides, the coins have served their purpose as an offering/wish/or whatever to whom or whatever for their blessings or curses. Unlike the cache's stash notes explaining things, there's nothing at that site to make me privy to any desires concerning the coins. Your note idea may have been a good idea if those responsible wanted the coins to remain with the circle. Quote Link to comment

joe gremlin
The week before last myself and the other half of 'Team Gremlin' headed out after work on a Monday in search of a white Jeep TB that had been placed in a cache near our home base the day before. The cache was located off a trail on a small wooded nature preserve. On our way in we passed by some sort of old broken down shed next to the trail. Sitting on some wood in front of said shed were two twenty-something guys. They looked a bit surprised to see us. One of them nervously wished us a nice walk as we happened by. Onward we went. Found the cache and retrieved the Jeep (Woohoo!). On our way back out we passed by the same shed and this time only one of the twenty-somethings is sitting by the shed. We notice the other is now a few yards behind the shed in the woods standing with someone else. All this seems a bit odd to both of us and we proceed to walk quietly past trying not to disturb whatever shady undertaking is well, being undertaken. However, the twenty-something in front of the shed is for some reason hell-bent on engaging us in conversation. He proceeds to ask our advice regarding two friends of his who have 'been in love forever' and how he can go about making them get married. It should be noted here that this particular twenty-something was obviously a card-carrying homosexual male not that there's anything wrong with that but I note it here because it becomes important later. Anyway back to our story. He goes on to ask if we know anything about giving relationship advice and as it turns out, we actually do but that's another story for later. Suffice it to say Sue and I have a bit of experience giving advice on such matters. So we go back and forth with him a bit but something doesn't seem right. He just doesn't really seem interested in having his questions answered. After what seems like an hour but was probably more like 4 minutes we more or less excuse ourselves, hurry back to the parking lot and get the hell outa Dodge. On the way home Sue and I speculate about just what they were up to. Our first guess is some sort of drug transaction and our second guess is quicky gay lovin' in the woods but we can't figure why they would want to waste time talking to us instead of just letting us be. Later that night Sue does some searching and finds www.cruisingforsex.com. She enters in the location of the park and sure enough it's apparently a very popular spot for local homosexuals to go and find random sex partners. Nice. It still doesn't explain his weird story about his friends and their relationship but I suppose some things in life can never be fully understood. I told Sue we should cross-reference all future cache hunts with the above website just in case. Quote Link to comment

joe gremlin
Obviously. But it still makes no sense to me. By talking to us he kept us standing there where we could see that something was going on. We couldn't see what was going on but we could see that something was. If he had left us alone we would have walked right by and been out of their lives in 20 seconds. IOW there was no need to distract us and by doing so we actually had a better chance to see what was happening (though neither of us wanted to). These kids and their bodies, always exploring. He said that he was just about finished and that the area was open to the public again. We went on to find the cache and then got out of the area ourselves. +TeamGuisinger
While on vacation in Myrtle Beach, I walked along a lakeside trail 400' from the cache. Beside the trail I saw 2 black trashbags that were full of clothes a bag full of unopened Ramen noodles. Some of the clothes were on the ground out of the bags. They were wet from a weeks worth of rain a few days before. Anyway, being curious, I flipped the clothes over with a stick(never know where a snake may be hiding) to find a name tag from Days Inn, a S.S. card with a name that matched the ID tag, and a love letter to the same guy from his girlfriend who was currently in rehab, begging him to sneak her in some drugs and telling him to be careful because of the dirty smack going around. Found the cache, got outty. Gave card, badge and letter to local police. Wonder where he went? The next cache in the area was our second wierdest find. It actually found us. We pull up into a parking lot for a quick micro only to find 3 people talking 10' from the cache. We wait for them to finish, and after they get to their cars start looking. As my wife is looking around a bush, one of the ladies that were talking had snuck up to the other side of said bush and scared said wife nearly to peedom. Turns out that the lady is a reporter who recently found out about geocaching and who had just done an interview with 2 local cachers about geocaching in Myrtle Beach.
