+Pasha Posted April 4, 2005 Posted April 4, 2005 Gordo and I did their Fear This: Claustrophobia this weekend. I'm not affected by that particular fear, but it was still creepy in there. It had been raining all day so I was worried what I would do if a wall of water suddenly came rushing towards me. Once WiFi is completely ubiquitous, you'll be able to place a web-viewable camera just about anywhere - it'd be fun to put one in that particular place and watch people shiver their way towards the cache. +monimoni Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 yeah, well, you guys be sure to watch for me with your little spycam caches - I'll be the one making the obscene gestures in the direction of the camera.... (unless I only think there's a spycam when there really isn't one....in which case I'll be the wacked out nutcase making obscene gestures at every tree, bush, and log in the vicinity of every cache I do from here on out.....so watch for me....) There are Traditional Caches, Multi-caches, Virtual caches, Letterbox Hybrids, Event Caches, Unknown (Mystery) Caches, NGS Benchmarks, and finally Webcam Caches. With thousands of non-webcam caches to do I think you could keep yourself busy enough so you don't have to make any obscene gestures. Just stay away from the webcam caches and everyone will be happy. It is the same principle if you don't like gay bars stay out of them. Don't go there just so you can make obscene gestures at those who do. If you want people to respect your rights respect theirs. They have a right to be gay and to visit a gay bar. Cachers have a right to put up webcam caches and watch them. If you don't like either just stay way. It is nothing to get upset about or to make obscene gestures over. It's a matter of respect. The last thing I want to see is a grandmother making obscene gestures. That just isn't a pretty picture. +OienLabs Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 Getting on track again. There is a cache in Oslo Norway that does exactly this: GCKE24 which is the micro to be found and "1538Moss #WebCam - AkerBrygge" (clic on link on the first site) monitors you while searching. One pic every minute (not every three). Quote

There is a cache in Oslo Norway that does exactly this: GCKE24 which is the micro to be found and "1538Moss #WebCam - AkerBrygge" (clic on link on the first site) monitors you while searching. One pic every minute (not every three). I have thought about doing just that, a micro on a public webcam. The only thing that has held me back is increased security awareness since 9/11. My thought is, if this is a public webcam then someone maybe monitoring it and if they see someone hunting around the bushes they might send out the cops. Even without webcam caches there have been plenty of conversations between cachers and the local authorities albeit police or security staff. I know it happened here yesterday with another cacher. Whenever I have a conversation with a cop, curious neighbor or security person I explain exactly what I am doing. Once they know there isn't a problem. I then "deputize" them as the unofficial cache patrol and ask them to keep an eye on the cache to make sure no one "muggles" it. They usually get a laugh at our use of the term "muggle" and are very willing to be deputized. Then they have ownership in the cache and its wellbeing. Quote

After your diatribe about how morals are slipping in our modern age, this is how you're going to fight that slippage? Ummm, OK. Amazing, totally amazing. This cache, previously linked here, does exactly that. The camera is in place specifically to monitor the cache. Quote
+monimoni Posted April 6, 2005 Posted April 6, 2005 ummm guys...? I was joking.....? I will not be making obscene gestures anywhere, rest assured....it ain't my style......it was a JOKE......a joke about spycams..... jeez.... Quote

+reepicheep Posted April 23, 2005 Posted April 23, 2005 Well...kinda strange twist of finding a cache watched by a webcam. I added a URL watch in my online RSS feeder (Newsgator) and one of the referring sites was a weblog of a cacher (amesnjas): blog posting. They mentioned have a cache watched by a webcam. Anyway..if you don't care to visit those links, here is the cache page: Runningman's Jungle Look in the logs and they give away the webcam page so you can see the location. Kenneth Quote
