+Mr. Snazz Posted March 18, 2005 Posted March 18, 2005 (edited) I've been using laser-engraved wooden tokens for a little while now. They cost $2.50 a piece, which is comparable if not higher to the per-item cost of metal coins. So, I've been thinking for a while now about switching to metal. If there is already a thread about this, please markwell me and I'll close this one. What was the total cost for you to get up and running with your metal geocoin? Including art fees, die, initial order, etc. I'm trying to get a handle on what kind of monetary commitment this involves. Also, I'll want these serialized, so if you have any info about that, it would be appreciated. And the name of the company you used would be great, too! Thanks! +Nurse Dave Posted March 18, 2005 Posted March 18, 2005 KVCoins. They were very nice. It was $579 for 120 coins with colour one one side and postage. $150 of that was the die fee. Their pricing one their website is exactly what they charged me. Just had to send them a basic idea and graphic of what I wanted and they did the final design which I had them change a few times. +mtn-man Posted March 18, 2005 Posted March 18, 2005 RK posted several web sites that produce coins in this post a couple of months ago. http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php...dpost&p=1260281 You could see if some have pricing on the web pages or contact them. Everyone seems to like KV Coins. Quote
+Tsegi Mike and Desert Viking Posted March 18, 2005 Posted March 18, 2005 (edited) We mint our own coins. That way, they are all individual tokens. We have not numbered them though. Edited to add: Somewhere I listed how much they cost us. The base coin costs about 25 cents for the smaller, and 75 cents for the larger. The price gets much higher with all the other materials we use to produce our token. I cant quite remember my figures, but I think that $1-2 each was the final figure for the tokens. One local cacher was using some kind of laser to mark pennies and he was placing those into cache as signature items. He told me that the markings eventually wear of in time as the coins get handled. +Night Stalker Posted March 18, 2005 Posted March 18, 2005 Idaho geocachers just got our first coins created and minted. I think when we got done the cost was 3.89 per coin if we minted 1000 coins. It was another .40 or so if we wanted our names inscribed on our coins. These were pretty expensive because we had something like 15 colors in it. Great looking coin though. I forgot we got a discount because this was our first coin. It seems to me the actual cost was a little over $4.00 per coin for a 1000. Quote
