+BigWhiteTruck
I recently recieved as a birthday gift a vary large ammo can. Here it is pictured next to what seems to be a standard sized can for a geocache: 7.62MM can: I really need to do this behemoth justice, and make a cache appropriate for it's size. So this I pose to you, the geocaching community: What would you do with a cache like this? Quote Link to comment
+Camo-crazed
Stuff it full of goodies, add a logbook and make a multi out of it Quote Link to comment
+diverhank
Holy Molly...try lugging it through the woods to the hide . I thought the regular ammo can was big! But then I'm an urban cacher... Quote Link to comment
+Camo-crazed
on second thought, mail it to me!! Quote Link to comment
+thumperness
Out in the forest with good books in it to trade Quote Link to comment
+welch
either make a book cache or fill it with extra caches and cache supplies and ask that people trade in theme of ' cache building supplies'. Quote Link to comment
Dr123d
I'm putting together a cache using just such a can. It's going to be a ____________ . Sorry I can't tell yet . If I tell ya I'd have to kill ya . Untill it's placed . Quote Link to comment
+BigWhiteTruck
Stuff it full of goodies, add a logbook and make a multi out of it You mean like: "Congratulations, you have reached the southwest corner of the cache. The next stage is in the southeast corner, under a yoyo." Quote Link to comment
+IVxIV
Fill it full of smaller ammo cans,, and call it a pregnant cache What would the symbol for that type of cache be? Quote Link to comment

+DanOCan
How about putting a regular ammo can in it as a FTF prize? Quote Link to comment
+briansnat
Here is what one geocacher did with a very large can. It was actually a grenade box, which is about the size of your ammo box. The owner basically dumped out his entire box of geocaching goodies in it. It was STOCKED!!! It took two of us to carry it to its hiding spot. Another idea is to make it into a "Book Crossing" cache. You can fit a nice lot of books in one of those. Quote Link to comment
Dr123d
Alright I can't keep a secret. I'm going to fill it with________ and place it in a_________ . When you find it you need to use the__________ inside to__________ . After you___________ replace the_____________ the way you found it and______________ with the______________ . Then and only then will you get credit for the find. Hope this helps . Quote Link to comment
+Renegade Knight
That's about the right size for a rock pile cache. You have a chance of finding it. Quote Link to comment
+BigWhiteTruck
It was actually a grenade box, which is about the size of your ammo box. Yeah, this is a granade box too. 40MM granades and ammo for the m16. Quote Link to comment
+ohgr
I really like the idea of the Book cache. With a box that big you could also let people drop CD's, DVD's, VHS tapes, and small noisy children. Ohgr Quote Link to comment
+Katydid & Miles Stone
I was looking for one that size a while back...when I had Cindy the Cinderblock TB. That's an idea- make a very large TB and see how long it takes someone to move it. I also like the book cache idea, we have a big one like that not too far from us, holds lots of books! Interesting to read the logs, like "dropped off 15 paperbacks". Quote Link to comment
+Moose Mob
I have found 3 or 4 of those as caches, not very far from parking of course. Making a tangent here, I would love to put one of these in the side of a mountain. But it wouldn't take long for the contents to look like this... Maintenance would be a real chore. Quote Link to comment
+Nurse Dave
Makes a good cache But you can go bigger. Holds lots of stuff Quote Link to comment
+zcubed
You could make the FTF a mountain bike. Quote Link to comment
+jimmyreno
In Reno we have a cache with the theme of video's, Video rama. Regular ammo can only holds about 5, you could really have a selection in that one. Quote Link to comment
adampierson
That's a pretty good sized ammo box (I've seen a few that are a little bigger). I recommend putting the cache way out in the sticks and fill it with goodies (CDs, books, casette tapes, 8 tracks, small stuff animals, etc.) Make it a multi/puzzle cache. A container like that is too good for a ordinary traditional urban cache. Make it a REALLY good cache. Quote Link to comment
+sbell111
My Caesar's Library cache uses a box like that. It is a book-themed multi. Each preliminary stop is library-related and the directions must be deciphered. If I had to do it all over (and I might if we end up moving to the frozen tundra of MN), I would have not used the encryption so the cache would be easier to find. With it's difficulty, it doesn't get many visits and therefore, the books don't get traded much. In my opinion, the best thing about having a book-themed cache is seeing the different titles that get traded through. One good thing about this cache is that it is easy to spot when floating away. A few months after placing it, the hide location got flooded. I stopped by to check on it and it was floating in a few feet of water. I carefully (but foolishly) walked out on a downed tree and lassoed (sp?) the cache. I then tied it to a nearby tree to enable it to survive the regular flooding that the area gets. +KC0GRN
Frozen? Tundra? My home this is! BTW always nice to have another cacher in MN, I'm sure you'll be welcomed if you end up here. Quote Link to comment
+sbell111
No offense intended. This was how it was described to me by a friend who lives there. Quote Link to comment
+KC0GRN
lol none taken. Some people here call it that, but honestly it's not all that bad. I like it though, no bugs, and signal reception is great without leaves on the trees. Quote Link to comment
+wimseyguy
Here's one idea. BTW, it's about 1 mile from the parking area suggested. I took a more direct, albeit less cleared route in, and an easier route out. Quote Link to comment
+nfa
I used a 120mm mortar round can for this cache. nfa-jamie Quote Link to comment
Shoobie & the Sand Crabs
I have an idea I'll take a 55 gallon metal can put in the middle of a busy park people will think it is a trash can seriously I wonder if that would work you would have to find some way to keep people from throwing trash in it geocachers looking for a littl micro would get very confused just don't post the size of the cache. +AuntieWeasel
You could keep ammo in it. Quote Link to comment

+Westerner
It might make a cool geocachers mailbox! (Although you may need to explain it to the neighbors and USPS) Quote Link to comment

+sbell111
how the heck do you think the mail man would take it The same way he takes everything else. I've heard of people just sticking address labels to the side of ammo cans and mailing them like any other package. Of course, you want to cover the word 'grenade' with the label. Shoobie & the Sand Crabs
well actually you wouldn't just hope the person who you give it to doesn't see it and you don't put your return adrress on it Quote Link to comment
+fishingfools
hide in it, and when it is found jump out and go BOO! Edited March 16, 2005 by fishingfools Quote Link to comment
+the hermit crabs
We've found one where the final location was an even larger metal container -- not an ammo can; maybe an army footlocker or something? It was a two-part multi ( The Big 'X' Marks The Spot). It was fun to be able to trade big stuff. Here are a few pictures from the cache page: Quote Link to comment

I'm sure many of us have these items lying around that we could put into a cache simply because we don't use these items anymore. Anyone want a DVD of Ultimate Fighting Championship II? +The Puzzler
Fill it full of McToys!! Then ask that people just take and not trade unless they want to, and then only for another McToy. If you don't already have a couple bushels of McToy, you can buy them by the bushel at garage sales. Think of the look on a kids face when he/she realized that a trade was not expected, and there was a whole treasure box of toys, not just a little can of them. What a great opportunity to redistribute McToy wealth. Quote Link to comment

What a great opportunity to redistribute McToy wealth. Actually that isn't a bad idea at all. As long as the toys are still in the original plastic wrapper, it should in good condition. I don't understand why people feel so disappointed in finding them in caches. Quote Link to comment
+TheHawksNest
I like large large caches, I have a TB out running around that can't fit inside most cache containers. I have also seen many Full sized TB's out there, even a bowling ball..... Make it a Large TB hotel... Quote Link to comment
+Mudinyeri
There's a large cache around here that has "logo wear" in it ... shirts, caps, etc. with company logo's on it. A DVD cache would be cool too ... kinda expensive to stock but cool. Quote Link to comment
