2x2
Not so new to geocaching (just passed our 100th find . We are now ready to hide our first cache when the snow melts, but we are having trouble finding those wonderful ammo boxes. I know we can use the tupperware, etc, but find they just don't hold up as well. We live near Danbury Connecticut and would love some help finding a closer source. We did find places in Lake George NY and Mystic Connecticut! Quote Link to comment
Renegade Knight
Cheaperthandirt.com has reasonable prices if you can't find a local army surplus store. Quote Link to comment
Mopar
CheaperThenDirt is going to be a better deal then anything you're likely to find locally. Most of the places I've found in your general area that have them want $8-$15 each. Cheaper then dirt has .30 cal boxes 6/$20. Quote Link to comment
briansnat
Ditto on Cheaperthandirt. The 6 for $19 is a good deal. You may be able to find better prices at a gun show, but we don't get a lot of those in the northeast. Shipping is a $8 flat rate at cheaperthandirt, so if you buy one box or 10, its the same. Its better to buy in bulk so its cheaper per can and you can always sell the rest to other locals. Quote Link to comment
SwampGoat
Got mine on ebay. Got 6 in the deal and paid $38.49 including the shipping from ebay profile saso_362. There are some for on auction at this very moment standing at a bid price of $19.99 at this link. Quote Link to comment
Frodo_Underhill
Last time I was in Raoul's in Berlin, NJ he had them for $ 5.00 each. Better than eBay but not as good as Cheaperthandirt. But with Raoul's you have the Army Surplus store experiance and you can put your hands on the merchandise then and there. Very convenient when you live around the corner and you only need a couple! +OccidentalErrant
Do they have an Andy and Bax store there... or an army surplus store? That is where I would look. Otherwise there is the internet.. and/or the yellow pages under waterproof containers.?? Quote Link to comment
Greymane
Government Surplus Sales in Hartford and Thames Army Surplus in Groton should have them. Also, Army & Navy Stores and Liberty Army & Navy Store, both in Norwalk, would be good places to try. Quote Link to comment
julz91
Anyone have a direct link for the boxes at cheaperthandirt.com? I'm searching for them, and not coming up with the right type (at least I don't think they are)... Thanks! Quote Link to comment

briansnat
Don't forget to paint out, or put a sticker over the military markings. Quote Link to comment
backinthesaddle
Why don't we see more caches in .223 ammo cans? They still hold quite a lot, but are easier to hide and cheaper. I use one (painted appropriately) for a first aid kit container. Quote Link to comment
.Mitch.
Any army surplus store has em, about $7 each <img src="http://www.geocaching.com/stats/img.aspx?uid=5b56c1c5-df29-43c4-89ee-cc2510eeaf6d&bg=2" width="200" height="50"> Quote Link to comment
