halldorr
I am about to order my GPS (eTrex Vista) and I want to know...is it needed to get the MapSource Maps? They add on about $130 to the cost...and i tink a basemap comes with the Vista...does it show rivers and all? Quote Link to comment
+Renegade Knight
My GPS V came with a basemap. I can't swear if it's the same basemap as the Vista, but I do know that the CD maps (Mapsource Topo in your case) add a lot of usefull detail. My basemap was limited to main roadways. +MrGigabyte
Go to Garmins web site and follow the links to the online Mapsource Map Viewer. Here is a view of Kitchener on the Enhanced Base Map . If you want metro Torana', you can use the Metrogide and R & R. The detail is increased by about a factor of 10. Note, these are the EXACT maps that you upload to you GPSr. Quote Link to comment

DARC
The vista has more then enough memory to store a good size region of Metroguide maps. You can also copy the maps to your hard drive and view it there. The topographic maps are recomended not to install on the Vista but to use on your PC to do closeup work plotting cache sites. While you can load both maps on your vista, it is a real pain to switch them in and out through the Vista's interface. So much so that after two months, I didn't bother, after four months, I erased the topo maps from the vista and only loaded a larger area from the Metroguide. Quote Link to comment

There are no Topo maps available for Canada. The original poster is from Kitchener. Last time checked, that was still part of Ontario. Why would he want US topos? Quote Link to comment
halldorr
I got the MapSource Metroguide so if I decide to go to Toronto or Ottawa I'm set...but the area of detail I was looking for isn't really covered Quote Link to comment
