+russell_53040
Do you think its necessary if I buy the Garmin eTrex Legend on line that I should get the extended warrantee with it? I thank you for your input on this. Don’t mean to be a nuisance. I’m just learning. Russ Quote Link to comment
+Prime Suspect
I didn't think Garmin had extended warranties, so this is probably from the seller. The unit already comes with a 1 year warrantee from the manufacturer, at no extra cost. After that, it would cost $99 to fix a standard Legend, regardless of what's wrong with it, or how badly it's damaged. You don't say how much it EW is, or what it covers, so it's hard to tell. +russell_53040
Amazon Its from Amazon. I guess I didnt read to see what it does. I really never bought retails warr before but wasent sure if this was something I need to consider. Quote Link to comment
+briansnat
I generally think purchasing the seller's extended warranty is a bad idea. They very often give you a hard time if you need to cash in. Garmin is pretty good. They will often repair your unit for free even if the unit is out of warranty. Quote Link to comment
+mrking
Since it is a Garmin I will have to say no need to buy extended warranty. Quote Link to comment
Stony2008
I have had an Etrx Legend for about 8 months and have had no plroblems with it. I personally dont think its nesseccary to get the extended warranty but better to be safe than sorry . Quote Link to comment
+The red-haired witch
As a rule, I consider extended warranties to be a waste of money, especially on relatively unexpensive items. It sems that, the cheaper the item, the more expensive the warranty, when considered as a % of the price of the item. Just curious, how much do they want? Quote Link to comment

Dale_Lynn
Any thing you buy knows when either manufacturers warranty or extended warranty is up and will only fail 3 or more days after warranty end date... Extended warranties are usually money in sellers pocket. Dale Quote Link to comment

nobby.nobbs
save your money, every report i've ever seen have said they aren't worth the money. they tend to have too many get out clauses ie there's a "y" in the day you claim. garmin well built and good customer services. i'd just stick to that. +Prime Suspect
Take the money you would have spent, and use it on the carrying case. That will help cushion the unit if you drop it, keeps the screen from getting scratched, and gives it enough buoyancy that it will float. Edited March 4, 2005 by Prime Suspect Quote Link to comment
+Greymane
Or, you could throw in another $10 and become a Premium Member for a year. Now THAT would be money well spent! Quote Link to comment
+Palm Grunt
Russ, I have purchased all my GPS'rs from REI since the early '90's. They offer a lifetime gaurantee on all products sold. I had a Garmin 12 for about 7 years and it had a software failure and they exchanged it for a new one no questions asked. Then 2 years ago that one had a few bugs in it and they upgraded me to a eTrex Legend at no cost. Recently I purchased a Garmin 60cs which had several bugs in it causing it not to lock onto positions and again a no questions asked exchange. I use a GPS alot for my job, US Army, and tend to find every problem that can occur with one. I use them for regular geocaching on my time off, route movement, resupply caches, medivac missions, and calling in field artillery fires. Just my .02 cents worth on this subject.
