Rubber Stamps

I have just got a self inking rubber stamp to leave my mark in logbooks of caches I have visited. I confess it was partially stamp envy after seeing JollyJax showing off his recently, but also for a while I have been stickering log books, but I quite often seem to mangle my stickers of else they collect fluff in my pocket, so a stamp seemed like a good idea. Strangely, when I am hanging halfway up a muddy bank and trying to sign the log with my torch in my teeth, my handwriting is often not what I would wish, but at least people can read my stamp.

Anyhow, no affiliation (blah blah blah) but I got mine from www.rubberstampz.co.uk and they have given me a 10% off next order number to quote. In fact they said...

The code you can use is stampz10. Just enter it on the right hand side while entering your next order. You can also pass on the code around the office and to friends. No worries.

so I thought I would pass this discount on to you lot. Enjoy!

I've just ordered one using our little avatar picture.

The stamp size is automatically selected as you scale down the picture. When I uploaded the picture, it started off at 16 cm x 10 cm! Don't think any of the logbooks we've seen would accomodate that size.

I scaled it down to 30% and got a different range of stamps to choose from.

Thanks for the discount code Alibags - it worked fine!

Blimey! You lot were quick off the mark. ;)

You just upload your picture and it choses a default size for the picture to be. You can scale the picture up or down. I had to add text to my picture, but as my image was somewhat low res, they contacted me and asked what font it was and then improved the quality of the text for me. I ended up with a 40 x 40mm stamper.

My top tip would be to ensure there is minimum white space around the outside of your design so you don't end up getting a huge stamp with a small picture stamped from it!

BTW, there are cheaper places that will do just the rubber stamp bit, but I have to say that when I am juggling all sorts of pens, logbooks, torches, etc I appreciate the self inking stamp.

Just got our stamp - really pleased with it!

Our avatar started life as an A3 charcoal drawn caricature. I photographed it and messed about with it to get it down to size for use as is.

Now we have a neat 50mm x 35mm rubber facimilie ready for planting in the cache logs.

Total cost (with the 10% discount) was £15.42 for a bog-standard rubber stamp.

I got mine yesterday. A posh self inking job cost £23.70. It is bigger than I expected although the stamp size is 35 X 38 cm. Just another bit of kit to carry on caching expeditions. B)

I think you may need a rucksack for that stamp, at a l;ittle over a foot square. Must start using bigger Notebooks!!!!! :ph34r:B)B)

OK Rubberstamp cachers, Show us a sample of your new toy.

You'll have to find a cache that i've found after saturday so you can see it. Was very impressed with the company. Ordered Sunday and the stamp was here on Tuesday. Self inking 3cm square one for £16 all in. Looks similar to my avatar. When it arrived my wife asked why I didn't get a domino one so I could number my caches done on a day...now why didn't I think of that?

Conventional html tag is

<img src="location ">

Never tried it with the 'helper' on the forum but I see it offers to put the http:// in for you, so if you already have that in the url that you have captured, delete it from the wizard or you will have 2 lots of http.

...Ah! Do as we have - get one of the "make-it-up-yourself" self-inking stamps from Lidl/Aldi when they pop up as a regular feature. Cost around £2.99 (or of course you can go to a conventional stationary store and get one for considerably more eg Trodat Printy at £24 - we bought that one yonks back, BL - before Lidl).

You can set up your own message, up to 4 lines of text. The last one we bought had two sets of rubber type in different font sizes.

This stamp can spare you the formal, common bits of writing...

You and me both HH - I have been racking my brain to think of an Avatar/Stamp for myself......

Any suggestions welcome!!!!

Laughalot

It's right there in your username. A laughing knight. I'm thinking of something like the hokesters' current avatar, but laughing heartily.

I'd offer to do something, but I'm useless at drawing.

I expect House of Boo might take commissions though?

Yes, I think letterboxes are supposed to have stamps inside them. The idea was that you would amass a personal collection of stamp impressions in your own logbook from letterboxes you had visited. Many of the stamps in these are/were unique designs.

Can someone please tell me if it is usual for letterboxes to have stamp pads as otherwise, if you only carry a selfinking stamp for yourself,  you cannot stamp your own logbook.

Yes you need to take your own ink pad. Self inking stamps run out and dry up over time.

I suppose the next step is to get a stamp made out for all our existing caches. Glad i'm not called marcB :lol:
