Alexei89 Posted February 24, 2005 Posted February 24, 2005 Hi all, A couple guys at work turned me onto this interesting hobby. I am waiting anxiously to receive my new GPS from THE DEVIL (aka Ebay). It should arrive tomorrow and I plan on going on my first hunt for buried treasure. This looks like a lot of fun and I hope to get THE WIFE (aka the other devil) involved. This looks like a helluvalotta fun. Thanks Scott! Thanks Sarge! Alex Quote
+WalruZ Posted February 24, 2005 Posted February 24, 2005 BADGES dinner number 6 - Cupertino http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?wp=GCMNBH embrace your noob-ness! Quote
+Marky Posted February 24, 2005 Posted February 24, 2005 I plan on going on my first hunt for buried treasure. Welcome to our addiction (a healthy one, for once)! No need to bring a shovel though, as the treasure you seek is never buried. (It may be covered though.) --Marky Quote
+Nazgul Posted February 24, 2005 Posted February 24, 2005 Welcome! The skills and knowledge that you develop may come in handy in your day job as well. I got started geocaching for just that reason, but stayed for the fun and challenges. Quote
+budd-rdc Posted February 25, 2005 Posted February 25, 2005 Only thing you'll have to watch out for is the amount of time you might spend to satisfy this new addiction. Hopefully, you'll be spending less time sitting in front of the computer being manipulated by Devil #1 (eBay) and spending more quality time outdoors with Devil #2 (wife) to turn her into an angel. You'll be challenged with various problem solving skills both of the mind and body doing caching here in the Bay Area. You can stay in shape with a tangible goal, instead of doing mindless workout in health clubs, without being harrassed by a salesman on various membership fee structures! Quote
+Wetpaws Posted February 25, 2005 Posted February 25, 2005 Where in the Bay Area are you? I know lots in Marin Co. Quote
+Wetpaws Posted February 25, 2005 Posted February 25, 2005 BTW, WELCOME! If you are up in Sacramento, we have TONS there! I'm sure you'd have lots of people willing to show you around! Check out www.RCGDS.net (River City Geocaching(and Dining) Society) Lots of crazy/fun/evil cache-hiders too! Quote
Alexei89 Posted February 25, 2005 Author Posted February 25, 2005 Thanks for the great responses. I actually am from the South Bay; San Jose to be exact. On my first outing, I went 2 for 4. Found two easy ones. The two tough ones are gonna take some work during daylight hours and probably a little more experience. Devil #2 seems to think it is pretty cool and plans on joining me on my next outing. Alexei89 Quote
+Marky Posted February 25, 2005 Posted February 25, 2005 Thanks for the great responses. I actually am from the South Bay; San Jose to be exact. The land of WoW and blinkers (my appologies in advance on the blinkers). You are in a great area that has some wonderful caches. Be sure to bookmark this link: http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php...iew=getlastpost That should take you to the 'end' of the long Bay Area forum topic. It's a great place to check for upcoming official and unofficial goings on. --Marky Quote
