+CO Admin Posted February 18, 2005 Posted February 18, 2005 When the decision was made, in late 2003, to have moderators in the forums I was one of the first. The style of the forums was much different then.. Not unlike the old west before the sheriff came to town. There were great times and not so great times. Back then you could see your warn meter and there actually were people asking to get their warn meter spiked. In Fact one of my first warning to anyone was to Renegade Knight. He was commenting that he wanted to be warned to see what it looked like. Far be it from me to not be helpful Warned on Nov 20 2003, 10:43 AMAsk and you shall receive. you are warned. Ill take it off later today but since you wanted to see it I thought Id grant your wish. This note stays with your account so all the moderators will see that this warning was placed in jest and not hold it against your conduct. This is just a joke. If you feel it was in poor taste please let me know and I will apologize in this thread to you for the joke. So that was one of my first. There were several after that. Some as a joke some not. That’s the nature of the beast. What was needed at the time was a firm hand at moderation. There are those of you that might surprised to hear this but my style of moderation has always been straight forward and without a lot of pleasantries At the time it was what was needed. The forums no longer need that. Things have change and its time for me to step down as a forum moderator. It is time for the changing of the guard so to speak. Effective today I will no longed be a forum moderator for these forums. I have enjoyed my time as a mod and had a lot of fun. To be honest my failing health is also playing a factor in my stepping down. But I feel that it’s the right thing to do for my first reason stated. Ill still be here as LaPaglia. I will occasionally post as CO Admin but only from a reviewers stand point not as a moderator. Do me a favor; Take it easy on the new guy. Whoever it is they deserve a fresh start. Change happens, people grow and the needs of the forums expand. I have no regrets as a mod. I have enjoyed serving the Geocaching community as a forum moderator. I wish you all well. Michael LaPaglia Quote
+StarBrand Posted February 18, 2005 Posted February 18, 2005 Thank You, good Luck and God Bless..... Quote

+erik88l-r Posted February 18, 2005 Posted February 18, 2005 Thanks for your service as a mod, Lap. You've done a difficult job with sensitivity and grace. And no, I have no interest in filling your shoes. ~erik~ Quote
WH Posted February 18, 2005 Posted February 18, 2005 Let see, who deserves such an awful fate as to become the new moderator? Quote
+TotemLake Posted February 18, 2005 Posted February 18, 2005 Lapaglia, In my estimation, you've done a fantastic job. Thanks for contributing in your fashion! With highest regards, TotemLake Quote
Max Cacher Posted February 18, 2005 Posted February 18, 2005 You just don’t know the strength you have given me, and feel blessed for being able to have cached with you. Max Cacher Quote
umc Posted February 18, 2005 Posted February 18, 2005 I think this is all over a pay raise dispute. Quote
+BigHank Posted February 18, 2005 Posted February 18, 2005 Thanks for doing what at times must have seemed like a thankless job. I do hope your health problems get resolved for you....good luck with that especially. Hank Quote
+hydee Posted February 18, 2005 Posted February 18, 2005 Bring out the champagne! A toast to a job well done! Quote
+Renegade Knight Posted February 18, 2005 Posted February 18, 2005 Good luck with the health. May you have more time for more successes like I read about not too long ago where you worked to keep a park from banning caching and succeeded. I'd enjoy reading more of those kinds of adventures. The dinner invite is still good With all the warnings you gave me I'm sure the conversation will be stimulating. Quote
dead_white_man Posted February 18, 2005 Posted February 18, 2005 Back then you could see your warn meter and there actually were people asking to get their warn meter spiked. I had totally forgotten about the warn meter until now! Great memoriies huh? Quote
Keystone Posted February 18, 2005 Posted February 18, 2005 I have also been a forum moderator since the beginning. It does wear on you a bit, having to read every forum thread even when you'd prefer to skip over some of them. For the past month or so, I've been taking a well-deserved vacation from the world of warn meters and thread locks. It helped give me a fresh perspective. With CO Admin stepping down, I'll come back from vacation and start pulling my fair share again. It continues to be a privilege to be a moderator in our forums. But it has been a greater privilege working with CO Admin! I wish him a happy forum mod retirement and good health and happiness. Quote
+Eartha Posted February 18, 2005 Posted February 18, 2005 You're still the best. And we love you. Quote
+Latitude 26 Posted February 18, 2005 Posted February 18, 2005 Happy Trails, and good health to you! JB Quote
+Fenix6372 Posted February 18, 2005 Posted February 18, 2005 WOW I remember warn meters... anyway thank you CO Admin for everything you do, I am sure I don't even realize half of what you do but I bet it definetly wears on you. I hope your health recovers so you can keep on cachin'! Quote
+TeamK-9 Posted February 18, 2005 Posted February 18, 2005 Thank you for you contributions to the geocaching community through your moderation of our forums, and thank you for you continued contribution to the community of reviewing the caches for our fellow cachers in beautiful state of Colorado. (Wow, that was pretty wordy wasn't it?) Quote
+Team Perks Posted February 18, 2005 Posted February 18, 2005 In the words of the immortal Leslie Nielsen: "Good luck...we're all counting on you." Quote
+Enspyer Posted February 18, 2005 Posted February 18, 2005 I didn't even notice the warn meters were gone...! I joined the forums about the same time the moderators were instated, I think. I've appreciated them and the forums here in general. Good luck. Quote
+Joe Smith Posted February 18, 2005 Posted February 18, 2005 Have fun And thanks for putting up with all this crap for so long. Thanks Joe Smith Quote

ju66l3r Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 You are no longer moderating. I am still posting. I win. QED. I keed..I keed! Maybe now you'll be able to play "Outside" more often... Quote
+Anonymous' Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 We'll all miss you pony. Good luck! Quote
+El Diablo Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 It can't be easy to be a moderator, I think we all know that just by seeing some of the things that have gone on in the past. They have to make decisions that are unpopular at times and receive a lot of grief. When they do good it is mostly taken for granted and goes without notice by most. You did a great job Michael. Thank you for your service. El Diablo Quote
+Pork King Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 The post title made me look twice...Lately, I have noticed an increasing number of references to the HHGTTG among geocachers...just the nerdiness in all of us "nature techies", I guess. Quote
+CYBret Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 CO Admin probably wouldn't want me to tell this story, but one time, after we had spent a day at the beach, we were heading back home in the bus. Anyway, the bus stalled and then we hear soldiers approaching and he had this chicken on his lap that wouldn't stop clucking. I turned to him and said, "Would you shut that %#@! chicken up!?!?!" and then he...he...he... WAIT....it WASN'T A CHICKEN! It was a PONY!!!!! Oh NO! Oh...no..wait..it was a chicken......never mind...it's not that good of a story anyway. Thanks for everything, Lap....you've done an amazing job. Bret Quote
+BlueDeuce Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 WAIT....it WASN'T A CHICKEN! It was a PONY!!!!! Oh NO! Yeah, I'm old too. Quote
+rusty_tlc Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 I have only had one experience with you as a Mod CO, and that fairly bland. But as an cache approver you have been great, please tell me you won't be leaving that job too! Quote
+Pyewacket Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 Lap, your wit and wisdom as a mod will be missed, but how nice it is that you'll still be here. Fair winds and following seas...that's a Navy quote for retirement, but somehow it seems appropriate. Quote
+5¢ Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 CO Admin, Sorry to see you go. I used to go by KRN187 and we had our differences in opinion but I think most time you were fair and respect you for that. Quote
+zoltig Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 Thanks Michael for doing a job that had to grate on you for more times than I could imagine. I have had a few chuckles as I read some of the battles that have ensued on these and other forums. I can't believe you are giving up that extra $1000.00 per month that Groundspeak is paying you. Whoops- Didn't you tell me to not say anything about that?? The other mods and all. Keith Quote
+GeoKender Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 Thanks for baby-sitting us! you did a fine job! Thank you! Cheers. Quote
+Right Wing Wacko Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 I think this is all over a pay raise dispute. Well, I hear that Hydee offered to DOUBLE his pay and he still walked away ! Quote
TahoeJoe Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 You've done a great job as a forum moderator and a cache approver, thanks for all the hard work you've done and making this game so enjoyable for others and me. You will be missed. Quote
+Team GPSaxophone Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 Well Lap, I know we rarely don't see eye to eye, but I'm still elated saddened to see you go. Hope everything works out for you and this gives you more time at the nudie bar with your family. Quote
+WRITE SHOP ROBERT Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 Are you tellin' me that you have to READ all those long winded, never shut up, babble on forever posts that I get to just gloss over, I've often skipped anp post more than two paragraphs, so thank you for puttin' in some time, and all the best wishes with your health. Maybe without the added stress, you can heal up. Quote
+Corp Of Discovery Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 Don't let the door hit you in the...... Huh? What? Oh, it's CO Admin leaving? I thought it was that OTHER mod.
