briansnat Posted February 14, 2005 Posted February 14, 2005 Weather permitting, anybody up for a Catskill backpacking trip this weekend. Perhaps we can bag Rocky Loung on our way to Echo Lake or Indian Head Mtn. I was thinking of leaving Friday morning and coming back Sunday morn. Let me know. I'm probably gonna go solo if there are no takers, but a partner or two or three is always more fun. Quote
avroair Posted February 14, 2005 Posted February 14, 2005 My brother is coming into town. He lives in L.A. so hiking the cold NE is far from his agenda. Maybe in the spring Rose and I would love to join you Quote
briansnat Posted February 17, 2005 Author Posted February 17, 2005 5, 4, 3, 2, 1....leaving tomorrow morning. No takers? Quote
JohnX Posted February 17, 2005 Posted February 17, 2005 Friday morning to Sunday morning? That is a dedicated geocaching trip. If I had my cold weather gear in Massachusetts and a knee in better shape I might have considered the trip. Friday was the killer though. The trip sounds fun. Topical interest... I nearly ended my life early in Katerskill Clove one winter. I went to peek in a ravine, slipped on some icy crust and slid downhill towards the chasm before grabbing a tree. Cachers in the Catskills, if one is not there, someone should place a cache at the base of Katerskill Falls. Hey BrianS, I hope you make the trip and enjoy it . Let us all know how it went. JohnX, of MA and sometimes NY Quote

JMBella Posted February 18, 2005 Posted February 18, 2005 Good luck, have fun and be safe Brian. Quote
brian b Posted February 18, 2005 Posted February 18, 2005 This is a trip I would have loved to make. Unfortunately, my plan for Myrtle Beach leaves at 6:30 Friday morning. Make another forum post next time you're thinking about a hike . . . . with the good wife's permission, I will accompany you. Quote
briansnat Posted February 18, 2005 Author Posted February 18, 2005 Good luck, have fun and be safe Brian. LOL you sound like my wife. She's " very worried" about me. Never mind that I've been backpacking in the Catskills for 20 years (and boy am I tired ), done numerous winter trips and several solo trips. OK, so this is my first winter, solo trip, but ya gotta start some times. Quote
Mark.B Posted February 18, 2005 Posted February 18, 2005 Enjoy the hike Brian. I logged the Rocky Lounge cache 2 months ago, the cache is in good shape. Not a bad winter hike at all. Echo lake is a great spot to camp. Quote
ChinCache Posted February 18, 2005 Posted February 18, 2005 (edited) How come when something that I haven't done in a while comes along I can never make it due to out-law obligation. Is it a conspriracy? The wife doesn't have a problem with me hunting solo for days but tell I'm just camping in winter and it's "what are you crazy?' Edited February 18, 2005 by ChinCache Quote
Packanack Posted February 18, 2005 Posted February 18, 2005 Is it a conspriracy? It is life. Think about all the times there are demands on your time. Work, children's schedules, social obligations, that is what makes it all the more enjoyable when you get a little recreation in. That is one of the reasons I had my son join the Boy Scouts, so I can go camping and hiking, but mne,we shall keep that one to ourselves. briansnat Enjoy your hike, be sure to check in when you return, otherwise we'll all be out looking for a cacher, not a cache. +GeoKender Posted February 18, 2005 Posted February 18, 2005 camping? yeah good one, Snat! My bet is that Snat's placing a large amount of caches somewhere. Do we need to TAG that boy? Quote
briansnat Posted February 19, 2005 Author Posted February 19, 2005 Back a day early. Failed to get to the cache. Here's the log. Just a word of advice. If you're going out in the mountians and the tepms are supposed to be near zero, make sure you bring the correct sleeping bag . Quote
briansnat Posted February 19, 2005 Author Posted February 19, 2005 BTW, anyone want to try again soon? Soccer season starts in April so I'm good throught March. Quote
