How's this idea?

I made a couple of the following up to leave in a cache or two in the area.

Inside a soap dish that snaps shut, I put a small bottle of hand sanitizer, a tube of 30 SPF lip balm, and a snack size baggy with two antiseptic wipes, two ointment packets, some Q-Tip/antibiotic ointment packets, and a mess of band-aids. They're sealed with a sticker labeled "Ouchie Pack" and the whole thing is meant to be taken by someone who needs it.

They aren't meant to replace a traditional first aid kit, just a quick fix with all the stickers and thorns in the desert, especially for people who take their kiddos caching.

Good idea? Bad idea? Foreseeable problems? I appreciate any replies.

I don't see a problem with it, as long as it's clear they can take it.

I've seen similar kits left in caches on a take-what-you-need basis.

The lip balm is really the only issue I see. I'd hate to accidentally use used lip-balm. So make if clear that if you use it, take it.

It's been done and most people think its a great idea.

Good idea. Those little packs come in handy, especially for the geocachers who forget to pack a small firstaid kit.

I think it's a great idea and the only thing I'd be concerned about is some little beastie thinking he smells food so into the cache he goes.

If everything is in its original factory seal that shouldn't be too much of a problem but you'll want to be careful of anything that smells like it might be edible.

Sounds good to me. Not a bad idea, actually. Why have someone take the whole think? I'd leave stuff for the next guy/gal/dog - except for the lip gloss. Sharing a lip gloss with 200 of my closeset geocaching friends doesn't rank high on my "to do" list... icon_wink.gif

Thanks y'all. icon_smile.gif

The lip balm is in it's package, I just cut off all the excess cardboard. And I agree, I don't think that a communal balm is a good thing.

I'd thought about people taking what they need vs. the whole package. Either way would work. I'll just try to remember to peek at it every so often and will take out the lip balm.

Thanks again. I'll try to set out a couple this weekend.

Great idea, I'd say go for it! Like the tweezers idea too. Since replacing tweezers could get a bit costly, you might want to look into the plastic, disposable kind. They're good enough quality and pretty inexpensive - about $.25/ea.
