+M-D-M Explorations Posted February 7, 2005 Posted February 7, 2005 I use the aerial images on LOSTOUTDOORS.COM and MS TERRASERVER quite often, not only for GPS activities, but for other research uses. Most of the images are from 1998 or so. Does anyone know of any location to get more recent aerial images? Quote
Rupert2 Posted February 7, 2005 Posted February 7, 2005 (edited) USDA has a photography program. Unfortunately, I can only comment on what they have done for Indiana (as that is what I use). The mapping schedule can be obtained from USDA on other states. Indiana's photography was completed in the summer of 2003. That is correct, photography was taken with a full canope (obviously USDA was interested in agriculture). The photos are 1 meter resolution (same as DOQQS) in full color. Indiana's were available only as county mosiacs in the mr. sid format. Ours are distributed through Indiana University who has also broken them down into quarter quads also in the mr. sid format. If you are in Illinois I would suggest that you seek out downloadable information through University of Illinois. Edited February 7, 2005 by Rupert2 Quote
+Markwell Posted February 7, 2005 Posted February 7, 2005 There are some metropolitan areas that have higher resolution images on terra server - in the order of 0.25 meters per pixel. I can see my house from here. Here's the old 1998 image. Again - the problem with this is that it's not 100% coverage. More like 20% I would think. Quote
+Honest John & Suzies Jule Posted February 7, 2005 Posted February 7, 2005 There is one now but you have to pay. I think earth view, or something like that. They were using it during the recent war in Iraq on the news. Quote
+Jeremy Posted February 7, 2005 Posted February 7, 2005 These guys were recently acquired by Google. http://www.keyhole.com/ They use a lot of data from http://www.digitalglobe.com - which you can purchase directly. Some images in their archives are less than a year old. Quote
+Two Geeks and a GPS Posted February 7, 2005 Posted February 7, 2005 Have you tried ACME mapper ACMEmapper uses the same age data as terraserver. At least in my experience. Funny this topic came up, I was about to post the question, "how often do they re-take those aerial photo's on terraserver." Can somebody answer that?! Quote
