Kybra
Just wondering if anyone has managed to visit the Antipode site (opposite co-ordinates) of their home? Mine is out in the Atlantic and I suppose a lot of peoples will be in the ocean but some will be over land. Quote Link to comment
Oakley1975
what's the site? Quote Link to comment
Stunod
Here is an antipodal map: There aren't too many populated areas that have non-ocean antipodes. The best bets would be western South America and SE Asia. Edited February 5, 2005 by Stunod Quote Link to comment
Team ARK-ville
This sounds interesting, but I have no idea how to get the new coordinates. I searched a few antipod sites to try and figure it out but can't. If my home coords are: N42° 08.992 and W074° 37.144, what are the antipode coords?? Quote Link to comment
hb'sbear04
Is there some formula? Quote Link to comment
Team GPSaxophone
This sounds interesting, but I have no idea how to get the new coordinates. I searched a few antipod sites to try and figure it out but can't. If my home coords are: N42° 08.992 and W074° 37.144, what are the antipode coords?? Pretty simple. Change N to S and subtract 180° from W (or add 180° to E) You'd be at S42° 08.992 E106° 37.144 Quote Link to comment
treasure_hunter
If I were to visit my Antipode site I would have to go to Australia and then take a boat out into the ocean. I dont thing I will be doing that anytime soon. Quote Link to comment

hb'sbear04
Okay, if I did it right, ours is in a VERY remote part of China... pulled it up on Mapquest... no roads for at least 5 miles... talk about bushwhacking our way in! Quote Link to comment
Marcie/Eric
I'm off the southwestern tip of Australia. Southwest of Perth. - Looking at the map above, maybe Africa is closer. Edited April 28, 2005 by Marcie/Eric Quote Link to comment
erik88l-r
I've never visited my antipode, but have had a cache posted there for about three years. Obviously this predates the current prohibition on caches too far away to maintain. ~erik~ Quote Link to comment
Cardinal Red
Actually Sax's " Longitude Antipode solution is often used as an example when the starting point is in Integer Degrees. You actually have to determine what location is Exactly 180° Degrees away. And you must remember that the numbers are on opposite sides of a Zero Point. One of them is really a Negative Number. And yes, for Latitude just reverse the N and S. E106° 37.144' and W74° 37.144' are 181° 14.288' apart. That an error of 1° 14.288' It would be easier for most people to think of 74° 37.144' as 74.61907° 180 - 74.61907 = 105.38093 or 105° 22.856' E105° 22.856' and W74° 37.144' are 180° apart. So the Antipode of N42° 08.992' W074° 37.144' is S42° 08.992' E105° 22.856' Quote Link to comment
tozainamboku
My mother always told me if I dug a hole in the backyard I would come out in China. Looks like thats true for kids in Argentina or Chile. Quote Link to comment
Yamahammer
I'd have to go to the "Southern" part of the Indian Ocean to get to the Anti-Texas coordinates. I don't see that happenin'. Quote Link to comment
