+Couparangus Posted February 4, 2005 Posted February 4, 2005 I just got a Blackberry 7200 series unit. Are there any applications you are aware of that can be used on this thing to aid one in Geocaching? Cheers! C-A PS: The web browser is handy for checking hints. Quote
+reepicheep Posted February 11, 2005 Posted February 11, 2005 I've got an older Blackberry and have not seen anything yet. Anybody??? Bueller? Kenneth P.s. Maybe it is possible with the newer units to sync HTML files generated by some of the existing apps? Quote
+Cymbaline Posted February 13, 2005 Posted February 13, 2005 I've done some poking around on google, haven't found anything useful yet. Of course, some of the Treo units are Palms/Blackberry's in one unit, so they're covered. I just got a 7520 Nextel blackberry, thought it would be nifty for some apps, but no luck so far. I'm not a coder, so I'm stuck. Quote
+kc8bdr Posted February 13, 2005 Posted February 13, 2005 I am thinking about getting a Nextel blackberry. If there is geocaching software out there for the blackberry, then I might just get one Quote
+Team DEMP Posted February 14, 2005 Posted February 14, 2005 I haven't seen one. The BB would need a java program written for it vs a Palm or Pocket PC program. Quote
+reepicheep Posted March 18, 2005 Posted March 18, 2005 I was looking at this application. It is geared more toward mapping, but it does support waypoints. Anybody use it before? Of course something that can sync and view GPX files would be best. Kenneth Quote
+Homersan Posted June 13, 2005 Posted June 13, 2005 Mobipocket has just released it's second alpha for the BlackBerry (I'm on a 7750). I've installed the app (alpha2) and it seems to be working fine (on OS 4.0). I'm also a premium member and I have been generating the eBook query for my caches from the "My Pocket Queries" (there is an option to generate the output as an eBook http://www.geocaching.com/pocket/ ). The MobiPocket loads these files up easily and the .prc files that included are quite compact. And voila! You should be rocking... http://www.mobipocket.com/dev/beta/blackberry.asp Quote

I'm on an older Blackberry so won't help me, but thanks for sharing as others may have newer units. Kenneth Quote

Looks like a great caching tool. It's supposed to be out for the general public next month. Quote
ImpalaBob Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 I'm not totally familiar with a Blackberry .... but I believe you can find and read your E-Mail .... so at the very least just E-mail yourself the cache data and read it when needed. You could use geocaching.com WAP to get condensed data and log your finds. ImpalaBob Quote

ImpalaBob Works if you are a casual cacher, however I know some people who put all of Georgia's caches they haven't found in their PDA and sometimes for areas in other states they travel to frequently. Wouldn't won't to email myself a thousand emails each week. Also, not sure if true for all B.B.s, but mine does not do HTML in emails so I might miss graphics needed. WAP is ok, but my unit does not have web access...at least to most sites. We still want a B.B. native app. Kenneth Quote
+The Wombles Posted September 3, 2005 Posted September 3, 2005 I thought I'd add to the list of requests for a Blackberry GPX reader. Both myself and a caching colleague are looking for an app for our 7250s. Quote

You could use geocaching.com WAP to get condensed data and log your finds. ImpalaBob I tried wap.geocaching.com with my blackberry and it is nice. BUT with this site I am not able to pick out a new cache. It works great if I already have a cache I am working with and want to check out hints. But it does not give you the description so you can not find it. Instead of giving you access to the log they should show you the description instead. Quote
+howeler Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 OK Here goes... I have a 7520 and I use 2 apps 1) trimble outdoors http://www.trimbleoutdoors.com Best program... You do need to install an app on your computer and then set what street mas/topo/arial image you want to show on your Blackberry... for this service you pay something like $7 a month to use... but I think it only works on Nextel phones... 2) Spot... http://www.skylab-mobilesystems.com This is program that is a little less robust... benifit is no Desktop app needed... only a one time fee... and you have a wide chioce of maps to load... This one I use if I was not planning on Caching... this one is only for the BB7520 I do use one other program that is cool with GPS it is not for Caching but it does use the GPS and is very cool... telenav... it give you turn by turn direcitons as you drive... I love it... but enough off topic here is the website... www.telenav.com I will give the disclaimer that I do work for Nextel now sprint and so I am forced to be a little bias since I don't use other providers phones and have no need for a GPS Device... however I will put it out there that I am open for qustions if you wish to ask... Promise no Sales pitches... Quote
