+gpsjester
Just found our first cache this weekend and learned a valuable lesson in doing so. Made the mistake of relying on, what I ASSUMED was the right way to go and a bit of dodgy map reading... INSTEAD of trusting the GPS. After 10mins of walking backwards and forwards, finally decided to trust the GPS and hey presto, it took us to within 10ft of the cache. As I said, this was my first ever cache and took along my wife and 4 month old daughter. We had a great morning and really enjoyed it. Looking forward to next weekend now, to find more caches... Oh dear, it looks like I`m hooked... GPSJester Quote Link to comment
Leoness
Wow! Hooked after only 1 cache! I expect to see you top of the Cacher of the Month table in February then! Quote Link to comment

+steviep
see COTM in the uk forums go deego's reply (sorry i don't know how to transfer it to here , but i'm sure somebody will do it) Quote Link to comment
+stu_and_sarah
Great stuff! It's definitely a balance of trusting the GPS and trusting maps/common sense. If you stare at the arrow too hard, you could walk off a cliff or into a river. I'm not joking - it's been done. Good to see you're enjoying it! Stu Quote Link to comment
+milvus-milvus
[..] trusting the GPS [..] Oh yes. I *knew* I was right the other weekend in Oxford, and so I ignored the GPS - which was resolutely pointing due South as I headed East... Guess who had the last laugh? Quote Link to comment
markandlynn
Of course what you get over time is "THE FORCE" an uncanny ability to spot all possible hiding places from a distance of 0.1 of a mile. This can have the unfortunate side effect in family groups of you a ) having the GPS confiscated b ) only being allowed to search when everyone else has failed. c ) being irritatingly smug when you find it immediately you look . +Pengy&Tigger
Only one in a day?!? Wait until you have a list of 30 possible caches to do on a weekend, then you get less than 10 in a day you`ll consider it a bad day. Having to do the last few by torchlight knowing that you can`t go home until you have at least got 10 of them off the list... Addicted!! Nooooo not us..... Roll on shorter nights so you can cache until 10 at night... Pengy&Tigger Quote Link to comment

Get home from work and take the kids out for one more geocache with lunch in the pub. Was it only last year when we used to do that? Quote Link to comment
+stu_and_sarah
Roll on shorter nights so you can cache until 10 at night... Get yourselves over to Finland. We were caching late one evening last summer, using daylight only - no torch - and went to sign the log. The conversation between me and Sarah went something like this: Ok... what date is it? 16th of june. What time? 23:58 Erm, OK... maybe we should be heading back to our hotel... +Sue and Bernie
....don't all rush up to the Northern latitudes, there are serious handicaps to geo-geeking up in that neck of the woods - I know cos I had a bash at one just last week: Northern Caching (Proper North)! ...I did not find it! +minstrelcat
We are all mad. Very true. We would never have considered trying to climb this stupidly steep and muddy hill if there wasn't a cache on top of it. Lisa Quote Link to comment

What hill/cache is that? Have a quick look at their recent cache finds and all will be revealed. Have you just invented a new game? Post a picture of an identifiable landscape and people have to name it! Quote Link to comment

Hehe... <plug> Maybe you should try my Just Milling Around... The cache is hidden "in plain sight" but people have taken upto 2 hours to find it... </plug> I'd like to see people trying to find it at night, that could be amusing Quote Link to comment
