+slapshot52
Has anyone come with across a good way to paint a plastic Rubbermaid/Tupperware container? I have found a few caches where the owner attempted paint them a darker color so they would blend-in better, but the paint does not seemed to have “stuck”. From reading the forums it looks like ammo cans are too tempting to steal for some poor misguided souls (insert profanity here ), so if I can’t paint a plastic container green, does anyone have a low cost suggestion for a green plastic container? +El Diablo
Try sanding before painting...it helps the paint to stick. El Diablo Quote Link to comment
+shwnstr
Try the Krylon "Fusion" paint will work on most plastics, no need to sand. No I'm not a rep for Krylon. Quote Link to comment
+Stunod
Sanding or using a chemical "deglosser" works pretty well, but the lids (which flex during opening/closing) never seem to hold paint well. Quote Link to comment
Spamiam
I wonder if Rubbermaid is even aware of this market? Maybe they'd make special cammo-wear? Quote Link to comment
+Rebel
I tried the Krylon fusion. Not too happy with it. I painted a Rubbermaid container, yes I sanded it lightly first. After the paint was dry, about 48 hours, I put some stuff in in for weight and immersed it in a pail of water for 3 days then took it out and let it completely dry. The paint just flaked off. Not saying that all will have the same results, but that's what I found. I'm sticking to ammo cans and Wal-mart match boxes. They work. Quote Link to comment
Spamiam
What's a "wal-mart match box"? Quote Link to comment
+Rebel
They look like this - But Walmart has them for under a buck. Quote Link to comment
+briansnat
I'm generally an ammo box guy. Paint sticks quite easily to them. But the times I use plastic containers, if I want to camoflage them, I use camo duct tape. The local Wal-mart was selling the tape in Realtree camo. Looks pretty good when done. Quote Link to comment
+GSVNoFixedAbode
This technique was REALLY fun .... ah I mean this was hot ...ah, I mean it's worked well for painting my cache containers. Quote Link to comment
+JohnnyVegas
What I do is cover them with camouflage fabric that I glue on with a glue hot glue gun, Some time I pull camo tape on the cache also. Camo tape will work also and I have used it, I am not crazy about the tape becasue the stuff I have seen and that I have has a glossy finish that I do not like. Quote Link to comment

There is cloth camo tap found in many hunting supply stores that doesn't have a glossy finish. Also, the camo duct tape I found in the Realtree pattern wasn't nearly as glossy as other camo duct tapes I've seen. It looks quite natural when hidden. Here's the pattern: My only regret was not buying more rolls. Walmart is sold out. Perhaps it was only a hunting season product. Quote Link to comment
+JohnnyVegas
Thanks for the tip, I will try to find some. We do not have a wallmart here, this must be the only county in the US without one. I have found caches with the glossy stuff becasue I could see the reflection off the tape Quote Link to comment
+AuntieWeasel
I painted a rubbermaid camo brown and black. It's been out there a few months and it's holding up pretty well, despite its hiding place inside a tree. Yeah, the paint is scratched off in spots, but that doesn't really ruin the camo effect. Just offends my sense of tidiness. Quote Link to comment
+Ed Rad
Cammo Duct Tape works best..... Quote Link to comment
+Medic005
I recommend Camo Duct Tape, too! But I have used Rustoleum "Paint for Plastic" to paint outdoor plastic chairs, I so would think it would work on Rubbermaid plastic, as well. Does the hot glue adhere well to the plastic? What's about the most severe temperature range that combination has been through and for how long? Thanks! Quote Link to comment

I wonder how a heat gun would do. Might not be as hard on the container as the open flame. Quote Link to comment
+Honest John & Suzies Jule
Walmart had the orange one, the army surplus has green match stick cases, but 3 bucks. Here is micro I am getting ready. Quote Link to comment
