+browni
I have recently bought a Garmin Etrex and would like to know if I can use rechargable batteries in this unit without damaging it. I would be useing the Nickel Metal Hydride battteries in particular if possible. Quote Link to comment
+OzarksJim
I use rechargable batteries in my eTrex Legend all the time. When I don't have extra rechargables, I use the regular alkaline batteries. There is a setup option on your eTrex Legend to specify what type of battery you are using. I'm assuming this is the same for other eTrex models. Jim Quote Link to comment
+NoLemon
I've had an eTrex Legend for about 18 months. I've used 1800 mAh and 2300 mAh NiMH batteries almost exclusively. No problems! Quote Link to comment
+Sputnik 57
The 'battery type' setting helps your battery meter be more accurate, but the unit will run fine on either type (or lithium, or carbon, for that matter) just fine. Quote Link to comment
+NickL
I use NiMH in all my GPSr and other electronics unless they came with rechargable Li. Untell it gets really cold I have no problem. There as a discussion about batteries in the General Geocaching forum that had lots of good information. Quote Link to comment
+Bozz
I use the Ray-o-vac rechargables, they are GREAT! I'd recommend rech. ones to anybody that is going Geocaching. I always carry an extra set of alkalines as well, just in case I run low. Bozz Quote Link to comment

There are some links I posted on another post about batteries that my be of interest to you. Batteries Quote Link to comment
+Couparangus
What I'd like to see is a GPS receiver that takes rechargeable batteries and can be placed in a desktop charger. This seems like such an obvious feature but I've yet to see a unit that does this. C-A Edited January 3, 2005 by Couparangus Quote Link to comment
