Xangxa Posted December 29, 2004 Posted December 29, 2004 What glue do you find useful for creating caches (e.g., gluing magnets to plastic, metal, wood, or rubber containers) that will also withstand exposure over a lengthy period of time? Quote
CYBret Posted December 29, 2004 Posted December 29, 2004 I did a quick search on the word "glue" and turned up these results in the main forum. As I recall both of these discussions had some very good information. Bret Quote
blazerfan Posted December 29, 2004 Posted December 29, 2004 In the catalog this glue is said to bond "anything to anything" I have some but I haven't tried it yet Quote
Navdog Posted December 29, 2004 Posted December 29, 2004 I have used E6000 adhesive for many magnet applications and it works very well. Quote

Markwell Posted December 29, 2004 Posted December 29, 2004 I've had a great deal of luck with Gorilla Glue on almost ANY surface. Quote
NightPilot Posted December 30, 2004 Posted December 30, 2004 No adhesive will stick to everything. You need something different for different materials. Epoxy is the most durable, but it may not stick to some plastics very well. JB-Weld is the best I've found for metal. I've used it to repair broken parts on an engine block, and it lasted until long after I sold the car. Unless you're working with smooth plastic, some form of epoxy is likely to be the best bet, but for plastic you need something that will slightly melt the plastic and bond it, not just stick on it. It also needs to be flexible, because most plastic bends easily, and if the adhesive doesn't bend with it it will come loose. Quote
JohnnyVegas Posted December 30, 2004 Posted December 30, 2004 I have had good luck with a hot glue gun. Quote

It also needs to be flexible, because most plastic bends easily, and if the adhesive doesn't bend with it it will come loose. Depending on the glue type, it can also help to roughen the smooth plastic surfaces before applying glue - Use some medium snadpaper or something, and clean off the plastic shavings. Gives a rougher surface, with more surface area for the glue to stick to and hold. (You don't need to do this with glues that melt the plastic though... ) Quote
Square Bear Posted December 30, 2004 Posted December 30, 2004 I've tried several, super glue (didn't hold up), hot glue gun (didn't hold up), and right now using epoxy (seems to be holding up just fine). Quote

Mr-Horne Posted December 31, 2004 Posted December 31, 2004 I buy the super glue that comes in the paint on bottle (like white out). I slather it on and it NEVER comes off again. I'm a HUGE superglue fan and now they sell it in these cool paint on containers. Quote
